I have been teaching the wonderful instrument of the piano for four years.

For children, I use the Alfred Piano Series lesson books that includes lessons and homework in a fun and engaging way to promote retention.

For beginners, I use the publication A New Approach to Keyboard Harmony to learn chord progressions, sequences, modulations, realization of both figured and un-figured basses, basic improvisation, and score reading. Learning these techniques will help transition students seamlessly to various styles and genres that incorporate the piano, helping you learn and love the piano without frustrating stoppages that often lead us away from lesson continuity.

From there, I utilize the Hal Leonard Student Piano Library series to promote chord inversion, syncopation, arpeggiation, pedaling, and key centering.

About Milton
Hey there, everyone!

My name is Milton Carl Jackson II and I teach vocal, guitar, piano, and musical theatre lessons in the Inland Empire area.

I help those young, middle-aged, and not-as-young tap into their own soul through music so that they may help others find theirs as well. I believe that in order to entertain others with your voice or your instrument, one must first be able to entertain oneself - all the while having fun doing it! As a recent graduate of the University of California, Davis with a double major in Music History & Ethnomusicology and African-American & African Studies; a former co-host of the popular hip-hop radio show ATF Radio: All Things Fresh on KDVS 90.3 FM; a former Music Director of The Afterglow of UC Davis; and a recently graduate of the University of Redlands with a Master's in Music Education, I hav
e come in contact and learned from a vast amount of different musicians and professionals. A classically-trained bass-baritone with roots in R&B, Soul, Rock, Pop, and Jazz, I have aspirations to help each and every student realize their full musical potential.

If you're looking for a teacher who will motivate and inspire you not only to learn your instrument of choice, but also how to perform it (whether on the big stage or in your living room for the family) and record it as well, I'm the perfect teacher for you. Learning to sing, play, and act beautifully doesn't have to be difficult -- we'll work on finding your voice or your style, all while having fun along the way!

I teach in-studio, in-home, and online lessons, so we can be flexible with the lesson type and schedule!

This is a perfect chance for you or your child who can't stop singing around the house or has dreams of shredding on the guitar or twinkling on the ivories to learn the fundamentals of music, start something new that keeps them or you focused, and have fun while doing it!

Feel free to contact me at show contact info for any questions and check out my student reviews and qualifications.

I look forward to meeting you and accompanying you or your child on your musical journey!!

I have been teaching piano for over 30 years and was the former head of the Cerritos College Children's Piano Program. I specialize in classical piano and include note reading, sight reading, music theory, and also popular music. I have two grand pianos at my studio and musical teaching aids as well as age and level appropriate books on hand which I supply to the students. My own university training was thorough and my students are able to make rapid progress. I try to adjust the repertoire according to the students interests as much as possible to make the lessons enjoyable.

About Barbara
Experience:
30 years teaching private piano lessons,
former head of Cerritos College Children's Piano Program.
Trained with Christine Bardin, composer of Alfred's "Music for Little Mozarts".

Philosophy
I have had the advantage of having the best teachers and try to also give that opportunity to my students. When a new student first comes to me, I ask what is their goal and formulate a strategy to rapidly lead them to achieve that goal. Whether it is precise classical training or a general music experience that includes reading music and playing popular pieces, I give everyone a thorough education in theory, sight reading, and exercises to promote fast and even piano playing.
I teach students as young as 4 years old with the "Music for Little Mozarts" approach which I taught at Cerritos College where I was trained by one of the co
mposers of the method. For age 6 and up, I use a different method book with CD and theory book that the students find motivating and enjoyable. However, most of the repertoire that they study comes from supplemental pieces that I choose for each individual according to their interests and abilities. I play for them at the lesson and encourage them to listen to music at home as music is a language and must be heard to be reproduced.
I believe I have a lot to offer as a teacher because I have a good combination of excellent training and also the ability to make the lesson enjoyable and relaxing for the student. A frequent comment I hear at the end of the lesson is " Is it over already?"

*** Lesson Details ***
The lesson content depends on the interest of the students. I have children who insist on mostly classical music and others that want to play "Star Wars". The format of the lessons includes finger exercises for good technique, new pieces, review pieces, and written work known as music theory. My students study many pieces at a time and change repertoire frequently in order to foster good sight reading skills.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have two grand pianos and a well stocked music library in a large sitting room.

*** Specialties ***
I have a B.A. degree not just in music, but in piano performance, and also post graduate piano studies at the Music Academy of the West. At UCSB, a music degree without piano performance emphasis only required passing a intermediate level proficiency exam. I have a classical background and teach beginning through advanced piano students. I teach children as young as four years old using the "Music for Little Mozarts" course.

Engaging Teacher

I have two children who are students. One did not want to play any instrument but is going to a performing arts school. Barbara took that into account and focused the teaching on things my child would use in school like accompanying singers, reading music, playing show tunes. My other child has a completely different focus. Barbara keeps her engaged and learning even though the interests are entirely different. Barbara knows much more than just piano. She knows about the music business and what it takes to succeed as a musician. She is a great resource and teacher.

I have always been interested in learning the piano and finally did it. Barbara is a wonderful instructor. I have been taking lessons for approximately three months and can read music and play! Barbara is very encouraging and I look forward to each lesson.

I am now preparing to play holiday tunes at the family gathering!

Child had lessons at another program but teachers did not motivate students. Barbara engages the student. She focuses her teaching on both what the parent wants and what the child is interested in so the kids are more interesting in practicing and moving forward. Barbara is good with both younger students and teenagers. She is patient and knowledgeable.

Seth is a good dude. I came across his profile with Take Lessons a month ago, after browsing through other instructors in my area and other schools in my area. He's got the experience and knowledge, so I connected with him for an initial lesson. It was a quick one to get introductions out of the way and a good idea of goals/direction. From there we further honed our plans for my instruction in an hour lesson and are directing our sights on my upcoming auditions. Seth has shown me through simple explanations of theory that his teaching style is very approachable, and additionally, was able to show me good technical skills on working my way around the horn, which is especially useful for someone like me in my twenties who already has a few bad habits (haha). Like I said, he's a good dude, good sense of humor so I feel at ease practicing with him and his knowledge is insane! Not only for saxophone but in so many other areas of music! You'd be doing yourself a favor to take at least an hour lesson from him and see how you go.

Seth and I had a great first lesson. I haven't played in a long time and he gave me helpful pointers on how to improve my embouchure. He gave me positive feedback on my rhythm and constructive feedback on my tone. We worked through some songs together. Next time I will probably ask him to play some more for me so I can hear what I need to improve for a particular song. I highly recommend him.

I specialize in working with beginners to intermediate pianists of all ages, especially those at any level who know the style of music they want to explore and master. My passion is working with my students in ways that prepare them to pursue their musical interests armed with technique, music-reading capabilities, and what I call the "building blocks" of music: knowledge of functional music theory and how to use it.

"Music theory" can sound daunting, but in fact it is fascinating, at least the way I teach it, using analogies appropriate to the age of the student, from chords like different types of sandwiches (yum!) to chord progressions like the materials and equipment used to build a house.

I encourage my students from the start to EXPRESS themselves musically, emotionally, playfully, in ways that keep their imaginations engaged in their musical studies, rather than private lessons becoming stressful or tedious. Let's get started in my beautiful home teaching studio in ...

About Teresa
A musician since age 4, Teresa's dad took her early passion for music seriously. So she respects the power that parents have to foster their children's musical lives! She notes the many stories she has heard over the years: "If someone had just supported my interest"... "If my teacher had listened to what I wanted to learn."

These stories and her own passion for music-making inform her approach. A degreed music educator and multi-instrumentalist, she celebrates and uses the musical interests of her students to move them forward. She has three grown sons, including two touring musicians. Their musical lives also influence her work with children, young people, and adults. The point is to celebrate and develop each student's unique, interest-based musical self-expression.

In her home teaching studio in Sherwood Forest, CA, 30 minutes
is the perfect lesson time for most purposes. Options include piano, voice, ukulele, beginning guitar, music reading/theory, and preparation for auditions. Teresa also conducts early childhood music sessions for 3 to 5 year-olds and is available to do group sessions.

45-minute and 60-minute sessions are also available as needed. Teresa recommends 45 minutes to an hour for audition preparation.

I've studied with some of the greats, such as Tigran Hamasyan, Vardan Ovsepian, Adam Benjamin, Josh Nelson, and Gary Fukushima. My band recently won the 2015 International Downbeat Student Music Awards for the small combo division. I have a very nice U3 piano at my home that I use to teach lessons. I've been teaching for about 4 years now.

About Mesrop
My musical journey began when I was about 10 years old, when my parents decided to enroll me into a music school. There I studied classical music till I was about 18. When I was 19, I decided to go to school for jazz. After spending a lot of time deliberating schools, I decided to go to CSUN. While there, I studied with some of the best teachers in LA, and some of the best in the world. I studied with musicians like Tigran Hamasyan, Ari Hoenig, Josh Nelson, Ben Wendel, Adam Benjamin, and Vardan Ovsepian. After graduating, I decided to broaden my musical knowledge and began studying all types of music. Because of that, I'm able to teach almost any style. Here is a list of subjects that I offer:

- Jazz
- Classical
- Hip Hop
- R&B
- Pop
- Rock
- Funk
- Music Theory
- Sight Singing
- Harmony
- Counterpoint
- Composition

I be
lieve in designing lessons around each student's goals and needs, so every student gets a personally tailored lesson plan that will help excel them into being an amazing musician. I believe that great music teachers leave lasting impressions on their students. I wish to impart on my students the same lessons and experiences that have influenced me throughout my journey.

I've always enjoyed playing guitar and bass, but the added element of piano was something that seemed so daunting I convinced myself to let it go. Mesrop was able to break it down so simply for me from the start, and I'm extremely thankful for his patience and focus throughout lessons. Along the way, I picked up more on theory and am now more comfortably able to transcribe as well. I think he's a tremendous musician but an equally excellent teacher.

I have been playing piano for 17 years. I started in college as part of my keyboard and music theory training. While reaching, I try to incorporate sight reading, music theory, and overall proficient.

About Joe
I absolutely love teaching music! After over 20 years of teaching, performing, writing, and recording in all styles/genres, it continues to be a great adventure. It is a joy to pass this on to others...especially seeing my students that never touched the instrument going on to be very proficient players.

I take teaching seriously, but definitely try to make it enjoyable for the student. I studied classical guitar in college, but was playing everything from Van Halen to Jazz to Country & Blues before that. Currently, I'd consider myself a flat out musical mutt...enjoying anything and everything. The love of guitar has also expanded to a multitude of instruments that I record, gig, & teach with.

As a Berklee College of Music graduate with years of music teaching experience, I aim for my students to simply enjoy exploring the language of music and embrace the discipline of the learning process, whether it is through playing pop, jazz, or even their own compositions! The true treasure lies not in the end goal but rather, the path.

About Andy
To me, as both a teacher and student, the most valuable skill is to enjoy-- to enjoy every moment that comes, even the less pleasurable ones, for the true treasure lies in not the end goal but rather the path. To most young folks, the less pleasurable moments usually mean the boring ones such as studying or going to class.

Music is something that people enjoy when it comes to listening but is notorious for being just as unpleasant as any other subject, like Math for instance, when it comes to learning.

Learning takes discipline. Whenever I teach, I see myself as a navigator who guides students through their musical journey. As music is a language, my goal is for my students to become fluent and communicative in so -- being to read different forms of music notation, play songs and melodies by ear, and come up with their own compositi
ons, too-- and always while striving for that goal, my hope is for them to embrace both the fun and the less fun aspects of learning.

Playing piano has instilled in me a sense of passion and discipline, and these are both values that I would like to instill in my students.
My teaching method is highly tailored to the individual. I try to make my lessons fun and engaging, but will also push my students to attain their desired goals! :)

About Janis
Hi there! I'm Janis, a recent graduate from the University of Southern California. While at USC, I studied neuroscience, but beyond my science curriculum, I took many literature and music classes.
I love learning about all types of topics and people, and I want to bring this energy to my students. From a very young age, I have loved creating lesson plans for my younger siblings. This developed into more formal tutoring and mentoring roles through middle school, high school, and college.
I have experience teaching everything from beginner piano to young children, to science presentation skills to international teaching assistants.
Using passion, compassion, and a positive energy, I would love to help you achieve your learning goals! :)
