I've been teaching Music Recording and Production for over four years. For beginners, I utilize the software Audacity on PC and GarageBand for Mac to teach the basic underpinnings of a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). We learn how to record, play with a software instrument, mix, cut, splice, copy, paste, and use basic effects for recordings and productions. For intermediate music recording and production students, I utilize Logic Pro X for Mac and Ableton Live for Mac and PC. We learn how to utilize MIDI instruments; edit and arrangement techniques, user-created key commands; automation; mixing; and creating a final mix for mastering. For all students, we also learn how to use microphones for vocal and instrument recording. We'll learn sound damping, portable vocal booth utilization, and acoustics. I'd love to help you begin your journey on music and audio engineering! I can't wait to get started.

Having worked professionally in Los Angeles as a studio drummer/producer and recording engineer for 10 years, I have been very fortunate to have learned from some of the most talented engineers in the industry. The recording process is riddled with variables and unknowns, and many Youtube videos like to claim they have all the answers... Of course, it is not one size fits all, and what works for Youtube may be the worst choice for you and your projects! I structure all my recording lessons based on learning the fundamentals of recording, capturing a great sound from the source (no more need for 50 plugins on each track) and using the recording process as both a creative and foundational tool, to create the best music possible! By understanding the fundamentals and having a strong command of what is important, the recording process can become a creative tool to further enhance your musical message with confidence. Now having run a successful Los Angeles music production studio for many years, I have the experience to guide students through projects and help them avoid the many pitfalls that can hurt the recording process. Having made countless mistakes myself, and thus learning to solve each problem encountered, I draw upon the extensive experience and (hard-earned) successes from my career to impart on you the best practices possible. Recording is challenging! We will take a head-on approach to recording/mixing/mastering your music in a way that will enhance your music production skills across all genres and styles. More importantly, we'll have fun doing it! There's nothing better than creating great music, and I strive to enhance the music making process with each and every student to create the best end results!
