Overview

Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.

A double graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States. In addition to the Suzuki curriculum, he is also associated with the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program that sets a national standard of musical achievement in various fields.

Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.

Having also taken graduate-level coursework in educational psychology, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Chicago, Farobag offers tutelage in various areas of elementary and secondary education as well as in SAT, ACT and GRE test preparation.

Additionally, as a certified Reiki Master, therapeutic and/or educational sessions are also extended to those who may be inclined to alternative healing techniques.

*** Lesson Details ***
Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !

Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.

A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lesson take place in the living room. Driveway parking. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
None; I do expect a reasonably good piano / keyboard at a student's home.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki-based education. Performance and musicality training is open to all instrumentalists.

Mr. Farobag has taught our boys the piano and violin utilizing the Suzuki method. He is a true gentleman and an amazing teacher. I cannot say enough about him. We have had several instructors and Mr. Farobag far exceeds our expectations. We are very lucky to have found him. Mr. Farobag understands the pace of each child and knows how to motivate the student to exceed his expectations. Hiring Farobag has not only given us a superb instructor but a great teacher as well. He is very intelligent and kind and his lessons can be applied far beyond the keys of the piano. My kids always look forward to seeing Mr. Farobag.

Both my daughters age 7 and age 10 have been taking lessons with Mr. Cooper for almost 2 years. We cannot say enough good things about him. Specifically, my older daughter has had 3 other teachers before Mr. Cooper, but has progressed leaps and bounds since starting with Mr. Cooper. He is knowledgeable, enthusiastic and a perfectionist, and I find that my daughters are always eager to go to lessons, and more importantly to practice throughout the week!

Mr. Cooper is an extremely talented, knowledgeable, and respectful teacher. Being taught by him is such a positive experience because of his caring, sincere personality. Mr. Cooper goes above and beyond the expectations of a music coach by having such a contagious passion for music. Mr. Cooper has assisted me in becoming a more educated singer in ways I never had imagined possible. It is evident that he truly fine tunes each lesson to fit your individual needs. There is absolutely nothing bad to be said about him, and I highly recommend him as an instructor!

My son (eight years old) has been taking piano lessons from Mr. Cooper for one year now and has made great improvement in his piano playing. With Mr. Cooper, he is just not learning to play, but also learning to add emotion to his playing, having musicality. Mr. Cooper has been extremely patient with my son even during times when I know my son is getting frustrated or losing focus. It is evident that Mr. Cooper loves what he does and shares that passion with his students. I highly recommend Mr. Cooper! I’m even thinking about adding voice lessons for my son with Mr. Cooper if our schedule permits.

Mr. Farobag did a great job with my daughter! He was extremely flexible with his schedule, and has a great demeanor with children. He is patient and even tempered.

It's an added bonus that he would come to our home - no more lugging the kids to the facility for lessons!

Thank you for the good work ...

Farobag is an excellent singing coach who helped me make strides in my singing abilities. You can also tell he really enjoys what he does and is passionate about music and teaching in general.

He has a very deep understanding of musical theory/concepts, as well as the aesthetics of music. Also, his approach isn't overly technical but he makes make it "natural" so to speak.

Highly recommended!

I love listening to music. I took each of my sons to music lesson starting at age 4. Music and singing come natural to them now as adults.
My favorite times are listening to them and I would love to join in but I am always self conscience and don't want to embarrass them.
When we recently retired I decided to take some classes for enjoyment and also to push myself to conquer some fears..I was going to go to a local music teacher to inquire about singing lesson, but somehow I happened on takelessons.com and was matched up with Mr. Farobag. Lucky me!! I have been taking lessons on Skype for over 6 months now! Farobag is the kindest and the most patient teacher in the world..really, really..he makes me feel like I can keep a tune and that I am capable of improving.
I actually pleasantly surprised my family by volunteering at a camp talent show over the summer. I might not have been the best but I was given a standing ovation for trying. (and probably the oldest up there!)
..and this is the best..I was taking lessons for more than 2 months when I decided to look up Mr. Farobag on the TakeLessons site..Oh My Goodness! I really lucked out - that is all I will say- as I could go on and on about his talents and cv!
Thank You Thank you Farobag for your encouragement.

Mr. Farobag provides piano lessons for my teenage daughter. She has been working with him for about 10 months. Since she started working with Farobag, her love for playing piano has grown, and her skills have improved exponentially. In addition to his obvious talents, he is professional, patient, and also very flexible with scheduling. He has a genuine interest in seeing his students learn and improve. I would highly recommend him for anyone interested in taking lessons. He also has a strong background in math, and has offered to tutor my 3 children, if needed. We may be calling upon him soon for that!

I can not describe my level of admiration and respect for Farobag. He is a great teacher, very much in sync with his inner child and therefore a perfect teacher. Hard to imagine he giving up of any of his students no matter how hard at times teaching appears to be.
