Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.

A double graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States. In addition to the Suzuki curriculum, he is also associated with the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program that sets a national standard of musical achievement in various fields.

Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.

Having also taken graduate-level coursework in educational psychology, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Chicago, Farobag offers tutelage in various areas of elementary and secondary education as well as in SAT, ACT and GRE test preparation.

Additionally, as a certified Reiki Master, therapeutic and/or educational sessions are also extended to those who may be inclined to alternative healing techniques.

*** Lesson Details ***
Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !

Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.

A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lesson take place in the living room. Driveway parking. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
None; I do expect a reasonably good piano / keyboard at a student's home.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki-based education. Performance and musicality training is open to all instrumentalists.

I love listening to music. I took each of my sons to music lesson starting at age 4. Music and singing come natural to them now as adults.
My favorite times are listening to them and I would love to join in but I am always self conscience and don't want to embarrass them.
When we recently retired I decided to take some classes for enjoyment and also to push myself to conquer some fears..I was going to go to a local music teacher to inquire about singing lesson, but somehow I happened on takelessons.com and was matched up with Mr. Farobag. Lucky me!! I have been taking lessons on Skype for over 6 months now! Farobag is the kindest and the most patient teacher in the world..really, really..he makes me feel like I can keep a tune and that I am capable of improving.
I actually pleasantly surprised my family by volunteering at a camp talent show over the summer. I might not have been the best but I was given a standing ovation for trying. (and probably the oldest up there!)
..and this is the best..I was taking lessons for more than 2 months when I decided to look up Mr. Farobag on the TakeLessons site..Oh My Goodness! I really lucked out - that is all I will say- as I could go on and on about his talents and cv!
Thank You Thank you Farobag for your encouragement.

Mr. Farobag provides piano lessons for my teenage daughter. She has been working with him for about 10 months. Since she started working with Farobag, her love for playing piano has grown, and her skills have improved exponentially. In addition to his obvious talents, he is professional, patient, and also very flexible with scheduling. He has a genuine interest in seeing his students learn and improve. I would highly recommend him for anyone interested in taking lessons. He also has a strong background in math, and has offered to tutor my 3 children, if needed. We may be calling upon him soon for that!

I can not describe my level of admiration and respect for Farobag. He is a great teacher, very much in sync with his inner child and therefore a perfect teacher. Hard to imagine he giving up of any of his students no matter how hard at times teaching appears to be.

Wonderful Teacher.
I am an older student coming back to the piano after many years away. Mr. Cooper is patience yet always encouraging! I have learned so much about music and the importance of fingering! He encourages yet challenges me to go beyond my comfort zone. I would recommend Mr. Cooper to anyone who is looking for a teacher. I know that I enjoy my lessons and look forward to my future ones!!!

Call him Mr.Patience

I am an older adult student just starting piano. The piano is completely out of my comfort zone, but something I always wanted to learn.
Mr. Cooper has shown extraordinary patience with me. He has a way of teaching and correcting my constant errors that doesn't make me feel foolish. I get frustrated that it isn't coming easily, but I always leave class feeling optimistic about my future mastering the piano.
If Mr. Cooper can teach me I believe he can teach anyone.

Passion and Love

Farobag's passion for teaching is outstanding and even through the new technology can influence the student. Cyrus cautiously is warming up to the teachings of Farobag and I have a great hope and belief that will imprint his memory in a positive way for years to come. We look forward to continue with Mr. Cooper, he is a competent, patient, and passionate teacher.

Wonderful Teacher

I am in my fourth year of completing my degree in music education. In the 6 months that I have been taking voice lessons, I have grown a lot. I have learned to project my voice more and be more confident in my singing. Besides learning to be a better singer, Mr. Cooper has also helped me improve upon my aural skills, which has helped me considerably in my school classes and preparing for student teaching. He was very encouraging and would challenge in at least one aspect at every lesson. The music he would provide me to sing was at a comfortable level for me, and was never boring. I enjoyed having Mr. Cooper as a teacher.

wonderful teacher

Wow! Mr. Cooper is such a wonerful teacher. After only 5 lessons my daughter has built her range and is learning the importance of breathing. She loves coming to her lesson each week and is pushed in such a kind and positive way. Looking forward to continuing lessons. We can't say enough great things about Farabog!!

Excellent teaching skills

Mr. Farobag knows how to teach! If you put in the dedication and motivation, you will get results! He teaches in a way that acknowledges your skill-level, and he remembers(In spite of all the students he has.) what you were working on with him or your previous lesson! He ultimately teaches piano in a way that will help you steadily progress as long as you put in the effort on your part, just all around an amazing teacher.
