The sessions exceeded my expectations. My anxieties melted away with Serena’s personality, calmness, and thorough teaching style. It’s a real genuine experience. Serena brings innovative and natural techniques that would serve well to anyone who wants to better themselves in singing, artistry, or simply picking up healthier activities to make them more well rounded individuals.

Serena taught my 8 year old son for 9 beginner lessons. The scheduling did not work out for us to continue.

I loved her teaching style! She is calm but also fun for the boy. He loved the warm up exercises. In only 30 minutes of class they were able to play several little pieces. My son could then practice and master them at home. That gave him a sense of accomplishment. This approach is better than working on a hard piece and being frustrated. She focused on sight reading from the start instead of memorizing which is a great habit.

My daughter is enjoying her beginner-level lessons with Miss Naomi very much. Miss Naomi is encouraging her to learn and play and develop her technique in class and at home during practice sessions. I was very pleased with my daughter's progress during our initial 5 lessons. We're planning to continue lessons with enthusiasm and appreciation for Miss Naomi's teaching skills and professionalism.

Naomi is great with kids. My daughter always had fun during the lessons. And, that is the most important thing for a 4-year-old. Naomi is goal-oriented, and she made sure that there is continuity between the lessons. Good teacher.

Zaray has been my teacher for over 4 years and has been amazing! She taught me mostly everything about music and helped me get accepted into one of the best schools in Florida. I took singing lessons and piano lessons that helped me learn a lot, because of her I was able to preform in new York and attend the All-state elementary choir. Overall an excellent teacher, I really recommend!

Zaray has done such great work. She really takes the time to diagnose the problem with her stellar ear and to prescribe the best exercises to enhance the vocal mechanism. Not only does she have an abundant technical vocabulary, she really personalizes her style of teaching for each student. Apart from being technically a wizard, she is one of the most joyful people to be around. Her calm demeanor and easy going self really makes a student of every level comfortable. I highly recommend!!

Get ready for a truly rich and rewarding experience. Maria studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Viktor Merzhanov. She is a 4th-generation pupil of Franz Liszt and 6th-generation of Beethoven. She was one of the fortunate few (Garrick Ohlsson among them) to study with Roberto Eyzaguirre, who was a student and friend of Claudio Arrau, one of the 20th-century's greatest pianists. Arrau studied with Martin Krause, who was one of Franz Liszt's final pupils. Liszt was taught by Carl Czerny. And Beethoven was Czerny's teacher. Through this great lineage, learn an incredible technique that will enable you to play the music of your dreams!

I throughly enjoy the lesson time spent with Maria as a beginner. She is an accomplished musician and transmits her passion for the piano to me as her student. She is kind and patient and totally focused on my comfort level and ensuring that I understand her approach to learning to play. Having a wonderful time learning with Maria. I'm returning to the piano after a 20+ year hiatus, and after a couple months reacquainting my self with the piano I found Take Lessons. I chose Maria based on her experience and background. I'm excited to change not only my touch on the piano, but also in my approach to learning a new piece of music. Maria is very thorough in helping me dissect the music so I fully understand not just which keys to press, but how make music out of it. Thanks Maria!!

"We have had 3 months of piano lessons with Tony for my sons, ages 7 and 9. He is a fantastic teacher! Not only have my kids made great progress with learning how to play the piano, they have also made huge strides in their understanding of music. I am thrilled with how much they have learned in a short time! Getting my kids to practice between lessons was a struggle in the beginning, but this has improved over time because they enjoy their lessons so much. I told them I was writing a review for Tony, and asked for their feedback. They said: "He is nice, and kind, and one of the best teachers ever!" "He is patient and kind, he helps a lot, is very fun, and he wants me to work hard, which is a good thing!""

He was very flexible and willing to create a lesson plan that worked well for her so she remained engaged. Let the Music Community of Seattle Inspire You!

by Seattle piano teacher Erica L.

Do you have trouble convincing yourself to practice those scales? Or does your child throw a fit when it comes to practice? Has the passion and excitement of starting piano lessons died? While these are normal emotions, you are in luck! The music community in Seattle loves to inspire and encourage new pianists. Come join in the community and listen to beautiful music!

Visit Your Local University All of your local universities present performances for various types of music. The University of Washington hosts musicians from around the world to participate in their UW World Music Series. In Queen Anne, Seattle Pacific University Music Department holds free concerts of all types, including choirs, a symphony, percussion ensemble, and individual musicians in recitals. The events calendar at Cornish College of Arts consistently remains full of arts programs for multiple disciplines, such as visual art, dance, and music.

Enjoy Music at Benaroya Hall (http://www.seattlesymphony.org/benaroyahall) Of course, Benaroya Hall is home to the Seattle Symphony. However, did you know that Benaroya Hall, the Seattle Symphony, and the City of Seattle work together to provide quality programming to younger audiences for free or discounted prices? Very young audiences may enjoy the opportunity to interact with various types of musical instruments. Teen audiences can use the TeenTix Program through the city to receive tickets for only $10!

Listen to Classical King, 98.1 FM (http://www.king.org/) If the thought of commuting beyond your driveway seems overwhelming, then the friendly hosts of Classical King provide an excellent resource! The station plays classical music around the clock. They are also an excellent resource to the Seattle music community without leaving your living room. Every Friday, they broadcast live performances, including Seattle Symphony concerts. On Sunday evenings, the station airs the compline service at St Mark’s Cathedral.

ZooTunes at the Woodland Park Zoo (http://www.zoo.org/) For families with young budding musicians, the ZooTunes at the Woodland Park Zoo are the perfect opportunity for age-appropriate concerts. The concerts offer exposure to musical traditions, such as jazz, blues, folk, and bluegrass. The artists for each summer are announced at the end of April.

Concerts in the Park (http://www.seattlechambermusic.org/) The Seattle Chamber Music Society loves to encourage young musicians. Each summer they provide free concerts in parks around Seattle. Additionally, the society runs a Family Concert Series with low-cost tickets. Check out their website for more details!

Dine at Boxley’s Jazz Club (101 W North Bend Way, North Bend, WA, www.boxleysplace.com) Lastly, not all piano students study classical music. Perhaps you prefer jazz music. While there are many 21+ jazz clubs downtown, younger students and their families are welcome at Boxley’s Jazz Club. Many jazz pianists frequent the club, including the owner. Contrary to classical music, jazz generally requires an ensemble work ethic. Often, solo pianists miss out on the opportunity to collaborate with other musicians.

Don’t let the blues get you down! Seattle is full of opportunities for exploring new realms in music. The options listed above are only a small sliver of what Seattle has to offer. Find music and performances that inspire you! And, talk with the performing musicians, they want to encourage and assist you, too.
