A South Asian percussion instrument similar to bongos, consisting of a pair of drums, used in traditional, classical, popular and folk music. The tabla consists of two single headed, barrel shaped small drums of slightly different size and shapes. Learning starts with basics or hand technique, rhythms, and playing along with songs.

Karen fixed my problem in five minutes after I had two years of getting no where. I play clarinet and was curling my fingers like on a clarinet. On a bagpipe, you must lay the fingers flat. Suddenly all the pressure problems with the reed went away.

Tabla is an integral part of world music today. I have been fortunate to have been trained in Tabla for over 15 years and have completed my Masters (also known as Alankar) in Tabla. I understand the nuances required for both Tabla solo and accompaniment and am willing to work with my students to ensure that they get the right training. Playing any musical instrument can be challenging but at the same time the pleasure which the audiences and the players themselves derive from it makes it worth all the effort! Welcome to the world of Tabla!
