Amir is a very good guitar teacher. I play classical guitar and I wanted to also learn Flamenco. Amir is specialized in this art-form and passionate about it. He has a lot of patience, and explains the concepts clearly. He also looks carefully at every aspect of my playing, pin-pointing and correcting errors I make that otherwise I would not be aware of. He is always ready to answer questions and insists that I play that piece of music very well, before going further. After only a few weeks with Amir my flamenco started to sound very well, and I am confident that soon I will play at the speed and accuracy that this music form demands. I look forward to many more great lessons with Amir.

Guitar lessons with me are unique because although I am young, I am a very experienced teacher already. I started learning guitar at 10 years old. By the time I was 16 I was gigging and teaching kids in my neighborhood and any Craigslist clients I could find. At 18, I took a 1.5 year program at the Los Angeles College of Music, where I graduated with an AA in guitar performance. Since then I have worked as a professional musician, and also as a teacher /consultant with Adopt the Arts, a non profit started by Matt Sorum (drummer of Guns N Roses, Hollywood Vampires) and director Abby Berman. In my time at Adopt the Arts I have amassed over 4000 teaching hours of teaching kids ages 4-13, so I am very experienced with kids and get along with them great since. I have also been giving other private lessons to people of all ages since 2011. Qualities that make me stand out as a teacher are relatability, patience, and an ability to identify the proper pace for the student to enjoy the ...

Taught at the basic level very well. If you know nothing about music or guitar Tommy's your guy. Goes through all the simple steps at an even pace making the entire experience relaxing. From there giving you the knowledge of your scales and blues scales, teaching you how to make mini solos on the spot really helps out with the musicality of it all. 10/5

Like most guitarists, I had always wanted to play the guitar as a little kid. After now 20 years of playing and 12 years of teaching, I am excited to share my experience and t

I love the music and as an excellent teacher I have an excellent method from my own guitar master that will get you going on your way. If you stay with Flamenco to a certain level, I'll try to help you find a teacher that would really specialize in advanced playing

I have been taking lessons with Billy since January 2015. I am a total beginner and I really think I have made the best choice ever to pick him as my teacher. Billy is an experienced guitar teacher and a professional player that knows great techniques for beginners. He has been teaching me basics of guitar in a smart way, and at each lesson I feel I learn something new and at the same time I can clearly see how much progress I have made since our first lesson. He has also been teaching me how to read music and tabs which proofed to be extremely useful every time I want to learn a new song by myself. Highly recommended!

"I took the beginner class and I was amazed by how far I progressed with Ahmad's instruction. My friends who play guitar had told me that they spent months just learning to play chords before they were able to play songs. But by the end of the four week class I could play not one, but *three* songs.

Ahmad has a well-thought-out curriculum that introduces music theory and chord concepts in a way that helps you understand what's happening musically while being able to apply it to actual songs. He has printouts and online videos to help you review if you forget something from class. He also gives you good strategies for practicing effectively. And finally, his excitement for music is infectious. One of the hardest things for me is staying motivated to practice, but that's a lot easier when I can see that I'm progressing toward being the guitarist I want to be with every lesson.

I've taken music lessons from a lot of different musicians in my lifetime (piano, violin, voice) and while they were all skilled musicians, none were as skilled of teachers as Ahmad. If your experience is anything like mine, you'll learn more faster taking lessons here than anywhere else."

"I had a wonderful experience studying flamenco guitar with Edward and would highly recommend him to anyone. I came to Edward with a very specific problem of trying to learn the rasgueado technique in Flamenco. After spending the better part of a year attempting to learn via Youtube videos, etc., but to no real avail, I knew it was time to find a one-on-one teacher. Edward was experienced, patient, a great communicator, and made me feel comfortable during the lessons. He very thoroughly taught the technique and chose songs for me to practice that would help me to slowly build this ability. When I mentioned a particular song that I was interested in learning, he spent hours in his off time doing a transcription of it for me. A great guy and a great teacher!"

Private Flamenco Guitar Lessons Near You

Flamenco is a type of rhythmic dance, accompanied by a particular style of music, that's native to Spain. Whether it's the brightly colored dresses, vibrant dance moves, or the unique tone of flamenco singing that draws you to flamenco guitar, taking flamenco guitar lessons can be a truly rewarding experience.

Flamenco guitar is similar to classical guitar, but features a more staccato style of playing and a slightly different guitar anatomy. This prevents tonal muddiness when playing numerous notes in flamenco's signature staccato style. It's easy to fall in love with the sound and music of the flamenco guitar. Learning to play flamenco guitar and becoming a tacaordes (flamenco player) is fun, too! Perfecting the techniques (called toque) and tone of playing flamenco guitar, however, will require dedication, focus, lots of practice, and passion for the art of flamenco.

Why Learn Flamenco Guitar?

Playing flamenco guitar requires tremendous dexterity. No flamenco player is born with this type of dexterity. Rather, it's developed as an aspiring musician learns and practices new techniques. As a result, flamenco players develop incredible strength and flexibility in their hands and arms. The development of the dexterity and muscle memory required for playing flamenco guitar, plus the ability to read music imparts a variety of additional benefits on those who play flamenco. Playing flamenco improves several important functions of the brain, such as memory, focus, listening abilities, and the ability to learn.

Playing flamenco guitar has also been shown to lower stress and blood pressure. Simply listening to flamenco music imparts positive benefits, such as reduced anxiety. As a result, picking up this instrument could lead to a healthier and happier heart.

The Best Way to Learn Flamenco Guitar and What You'll Study

Although you can find plenty of free flamenco guitar classes online, learning with a private teacher is by far the best way. With immediate feedback, you'll overcome personal challenges and pick up new techniques fast. Plus, private teachers customize every lesson to your individual interests, learning abilities, and goals, so no two lessons are exactly alike. Flamenco guitar lessons for kids differ greatly in terms of course content and teaching style from flamenco guitar classes for adults.

Sample Curriculum for Beginner Flamenco Guitar Lessons

If you have little or no previous experience playing flamenco guitar, then beginner lessons are for you. In beginner lessons, you'll be introduced to your flamenco guitar, basic guitar playing techniques, and you'll learn what makes flamenco guitar unique. Depending on your existing musical knowledge, your flamenco guitar tutor might choose to cover some of the following topics:

  • Proper posture, hand position, and hold
  • Guitar anatomy, care, and tuning
  • Flamenco guitar terms
  • Basic chords and fingering
  • Reading guitar tablature and musical notation
  • Introduction to musical theory

Sample Curriculum for Intermediate Flamenco Guitar Classes

In intermediate flamenco guitar classes, you'll be introduced to the styles and techniques that will allow you to achieve the sound and tonality that is unique to flamenco guitar. Plus, your physical ability to play and work through these techniques will improve as your hands and posture become stronger. Your flamenco guitar teacher might choose to cover some of the following topics:

  • Scales and Arpeggios
  • Flamenco styles and nails
  • Time signature and keeping rhythm
  • Modal and tonal harmonies
  • Flamenco techniques (picado, tremolo, golpe, rasgueado, etc.)
  • Using a capo

Sample Curriculum for Advanced Flamenco Guitar Lessons

Advanced flamenco guitar students should already be familiar with most of the techniques, styles, and nails of playing flamenco guitar. In advanced lessons, you'll work on perfecting your skills to reach virtuoso level. In advanced lessons, you'll develop an individual style and focus on overcoming your individual challenges to become the strongest player you can be. Course topics in advanced lessons depends greatly on the individual student's goals and interests, but your instructor might choose to cover the following topics:

  • Agility exercises
  • Improvisation and soloing
  • Composing and developing personal style
  • Audition coaching
  • Performance preparation
  • Music business counsel
