I worked with Andrew for over 2 years learning the drums. Fabulous teacher! Andrew taught me technique, timing, different genres of drumming but most importantly inspired me to keep stretching in my playing. His love of music shines through his teaching.

We could not be happier with Matthew! He has the perfect deameanor and teaching technique for our 7 year old. Our son has learned an unbelievable amount in the last two months, but more importantly, he thinks playing is fun. We are so happy to have found Matthew!

Percussion is such a fun subject because of all the instruments you get to play! Whether you just want to learn congas, bongos, cajon, cowbell, or all of them, I'll guide you through the basic patterns, help you develop technique and improvisation ideas, and jam together during our lessons.

I have been teaching percussion for over 10 years. My lessons focus on technique and playing along with popular songs. Lessons will adjust according to the student's level, pace, and goals. If you'd like to learn all basic percussion instruments, we can develop a rotating schedule per instrument.

My goal for my students is to have an understanding on how to use their instrument, develop versatility, discover who they are as a musician, become independent learners, while having fun along the way!

Joan taught my son from first time to an advanced beginner. She was very patient and extremely helpful. My son was fully engaged in his lessons and always enjoyed his time with Joan. Joan was very dependable, always on time for lessons and always flexible with her scheduling. She also assisted in purchasing a drumset for my son. I would recommend Joan to anyone looking to learn the drums.

My son is three lessons in with Doug. He has enjoyed them. Doug explains things to him, jokes around with him, and keeps the lessons fun. He understands that my son is a beginner and focuses the lessons accordingly. We are pleased with the instruction.

Percussion Lessons

As you’re probably aware the drums are among the most popular percussion instruments and they are played across a wide variety of genres. However, the scope of percussion instruments goes way beyond the drums. In fact, there are so many members of this instrument family we couldn’t even begin to name them all in this short introduction. Contrary to the common notion, percussion instruments do not simply exist to provide highlights or accents within musical scores. In fact, one of the unique parts about percussion is that they make compositions livelier due to the pulse and rhythm they provide. These instruments create sound by being hit, shaken, rubbed, scraped, and other methods intended to make them vibrate. You can learn these techniques, as well as others, simply by enrolling in our percussion lessons available in a city near you! So search our site for teachers that specialize in various percussion instruments suck as Idiophones (wood block, crash cymbals, marimba, celesta), Membranophones (tom-toms, snare drum, timpani), Ethnic/World percussion (bodhran, djembe, gamelan, steelpan, tabla, dhol, berimbau, timbal), and Latin American percussive instruments (congas, bongos, timbales, maracas, gourds, shakers, cowbells).
