Fay is such an amazing teacher! I got into Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School thanks to her. Best Teacher I've had, she helps train your voice and goes through the vocal anatomy so you understand techniques such as proper breathing, posture, coordination, grounding, acting, diction...etc. I've been her student for about a year three years now and I have to say that my voice has improved so much as a performer all thanks to her! If you get the chance, at least take a class, you will not regret it!

Private Piano Teacher

Trained at perfect pitch course at YAMAHA institute in Japan. Many competition experiences. A winner of Electric Piano Competition at YAMAHA Electric Piano Festival.

About Asuka

I started my musical training as a pianist at YAMAHA institute at age 4 in Japan. I was selected to enter perfect pitch class. It was designated for students who have perfect pitch and potentials to be professional musicians.

I enjoyed playing piano and electric piano and won the 1st prize at Kitakantou Electric Piano Competition hosted by YAMAHA institute. Because of the intensive training, I have been accompanying my students' recitals and performance exams.

As much as I enjoyed playing piano, I discovered that I also love singing, so I started to take singing lessons and majored in vocal performance during my college days.

Since I have graduated, I have been performing opera professionally. My career highlights include roles as Cio-cio san(Madame Butterfly) with Snob Opera, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Fairy(Falstaff) with Sir B

ryn Terfel with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Liverpool, England, Dorinda(Orlando) with Cantanti Project, Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) with Opera Manhattan Studio, Frasquita (Carmen) with One World Symphony, Zerlina (Don Giovanni) and Clorinda (La Cenerentola) with Capitol Heights Opera, Alice (Le comte Ory) with West Side Opera Society, Adele (Die Fledermaus), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), and Myrrhine (Lysistrata) with Opera Avanti, Gilda (Rigoletto) with Académie Internationale d'Eté de Nice, and The First Spirit (Die Zauberflöte) with the Opera Company of Brooklyn.

My international credits include performances under the direction of Conductor Laurent Pillot at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Liverpool, England;the Académie Internationale d'Eté de Nice, France; the Daniel Ferro Vocal Program in Chianti,Italy; the International Vocal Arts Institute in Tel Aviv, Israel where I was selected to sing for the Japanese Ambassador.

I made appearances as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, Town Hall, and MOMA museum in New York City and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

As a versatile singer, I was presented as an aspiring opera singer on the website of Maybelline New York. Her voice was featured in short films for the Japanese technology company NEC. I appeared as a soprano soloist for the opera, Jazz and theater collaboration of "TAKE ABITE" by David Antonio Cruz. I also sings Broadway songs and continues her musical theater studies. She is an active recitalist and also performs Oratorio works.

I was also a finalist at the Opera Idol Competition at Lincoln Center in New York City, The Hariclea Darclée Voice Competition in Romania and the Mario Lanza and Elaine Malbin Vocal Competition in New York City. Ms. Uchida was selected as a vocal scholarship recipient at Savannah music festival.

Her upcoming engagements in 2019 include performing concerts with Philharmonie Teplice, Neubrandenburg, Germany, the title role of Lucia di Lammermoore and a lieder recital with Opera After Hours, New York. Ms. Uchida gave a recital hosted by Russian Cultural Center in Kiev 2019. Asuka is invited to give a recital at Festival dell’arte in Wojanow, Poland in August 2019.

Besides being an opera singer, I have been teaching piano and voice for 11 years. I would like to share my skills and experience with you. Since I perform often, I can coach you how to perform on stage in addition to building solid technique and languages. Also, I have taught various kinds of music, such as Rock, Broadway musicals, Pop music, so we can work on all kind of music.

I look forward to teaching you soon!

My students can expect to improve their skills and start to enjoy music more as we work together.
I believe that learning music is fun and enjoyable. However you also need to be serious and focused.
I can demonstrate various and specific techniques, phrasing, and interpretation and will always coach on how to develop your skills. However, I feel it is important for students to think critically on their own and take the first try at solving a problem themselves. I cannot emphasize enough that primarily it is you who find the ways to improve. Leaning music is a collaboration between teachers and students. I hope that through my lessons, students will become more self-sufficient and confident as musicians.
Let me help you become a better musician.

Lukas
On behalf of my son who is 15. Before finding Asuka, Lukas had taken voice lessons from several very good teachers (between breaks we would experiment with teachers).
Now with Asuka he feels most comfortable and feels he learns more per lesson with Asuka. More progress with all aspects of voice. She helps prepare for auditions with Broadway vocals and advance on the more serious and challenging Opera selections.
So the actual lessons are great and Asuka is also a charm; engaging and personable. As the parent I very much like she remains a professional singer as her career.
So we are staying with Asuka through the breaks and may even extend into piano lessons as well.
I would recommend Asuka without hesitation.

Veroslav is a tremendously patient expert piano instrument for my two children, ages 6 and 12. He has a gentle way of guiding kids who may feel shy. I’m just blown away by my children’s progress in piano skills in just a couple of months, but also see how much their self-confidence has grown through doing well at something completely new! Absolutely recommend Veroslav, and we feel so lucky to have been connected to with him!

My name is Paolo Perez. I'm a New York based pianist who's just as at home in a formal theater pit as he is playing air guitar on stage in a one piece jumpsuit and an Aladdin Sane bolt painted on his face. At little about me, I've worked and performed primarily in musical theater for the last ten years in my capacity as Music Director at various houses throughout the Northeast. Most recently I had the distinct pleasure of closing a production of Grease at the United Nations International School, a year of monthly shows with HQ's Anna Roisman at Caroline’s Comedy Club, and a bittersweet departure from my nearly 3 years as Music Director for the classic rock tribute group - The Rock and Roll Playhouse

In a session with me, you'll explore more than how to simply sing or play the notes that are on the page. We'll go over how to become a compelling story teller, why it's important to find variety within your piece, and how to do that.

Ultimately, my ideal goal is to make my students love music. Music is a great way of communicating emotions; it will make their lives more fruitful. In order to achieve that, they will have my guidance for comfortable and healthy piano technique.

--specialize in teaching NYSSMA and ABRSM syllabus

About Brian

Second-Prize winner of the 2017 New York International Artists Association Piano Competition, Hong Kong native Brian Lam was hailed by Sergei Babayan as “a very fine young pianist whose talents cannot be taught by others”. He won the First Prize at the 2014 Brooklyn College Concerto Competition, which led to a performance of Chopin’s e minor concerto with the school’s symphony under the baton of George Rothman, music director of the Riverside Symphony in New York. Two years later, in 2016, he won the First Prize at the American Proteges International Concerto Competition. Other achievements include a Gold Medal at the Young Classical Virtuoso International Piano Competition. Brian was also a finalist at the First VIVO-S International Music Competition in 2017.

Brian has appeared in greatly-acclaimed music festivals such as

The reason I came to Mr. Brian: I wasn't making any progress under my previous teacher at a local music school. I'd say I absolutely have made the right decision to study with him! At first, my parents thought Mr. Brian's piano lessons are a bit expensive, but they let me try out the first few lessons. Worth the price! I have stayed with him for almost 4 years. He is so passionate with piano and he always tries to push me to my fullest potential, even when certain pieces seem impossible for me to tackle. We are working on a 45 min college audition program; I have never imagined I could make it this far (I hated piano when I was a kid).

Mr. Brian has prepped me well for performances. I have learned a lot from him. He is very passionate about music and he really taught me how to express myself through piano playing. I am a very shy person and have stage fright. My parents think I have advanced a lot under Brian's tutelage. I highly recommend him. A great friend, mentor and an amazing pianist!

He had been my piano teacher and mentor for 5+years. Equipped with marvelous knowledge and meticulousness on music and piano performance, he is capable and willing to uphold his professionalism. He is not going to move on until you have mastered certain fundamental musical ideations or techniques. Mr. Brian is not the type of teacher who only talks in theory or with instructions, but he can actually perform what he demands from students. Hence, he is doubtlessly a marvelous piano performer, as well as instructor, where I am certain students can learn a lot from his lessons.

Piano lessons with Play By Ear Music Lessons are different than traditional lessons. I teach music theory, which is all about chords, musical scales, patterns, and playing quickly and easily after only hearing a song. You don’t have to learn how to read music in order to be a great player.

The theory I will teach you will help you play any song quickly and easily without having to learn the theory of each song separately.

Discount packages available.

About Jennifer

I have been teaching music privately since 2004.

I teach music theory, not music reading. This training will teach you to play by ear without having to read music if you don’t want to. This means being able to sit down and play after hearing a song. As long as we've heard the song and know how it sounds, we can learn how to quickly and easily play it.

Music theory is about patterns, chords, variations of chords, and order of chords. It can be applied to any song so the more we play the easier new songs become!

"When we were looking for a piano teacher for our 13yo daughter we were looking for someone who could also help her out with her church music as she is the

"I used to get lessons with someone but I had to relocate and could not continue with him. I did search and try out a number of other teachers until I met
Naomi. She took her time to review what my goals were and what i envisioned as my learning goals. Then she discussed the options and recommended a process. After taking lessons with her, I had my daughter take lessons with her too. That was a very wise decision. I was impressed in her ability to coach me and my daughter along the process. My daughter had taken lessons with other teachers before but she set a goal to correct a few things that would affect her ability later. And she was able to connected with my daughter. That was very important to me. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a music teacher with real teaching experience. I am sure there are cheaper instructors but I needed someone who could take her time to evaluate my skills and my daughter's skills and tailor a learning experience that would suit us. It is very hard to find good teachers. I used to take piano lessons by two concert pianists and they were horrible experiences. They are good musicians but awful teachers. Anyway, I highly recommend Naomi as a music teacher."

A New Approach to Piano Lessons in New York City

By Glen F. - NYC Piano Teacher

I have always loved music and playing the piano, and I have achieved lots of success performing music in all styles, culminating with a degree in piano performance from the Manhattan School of Music. I was capable of playing practically anything I wanted, but there was something deeper and more meaningful I wanted to go after. I wanted to achieve more physical freedom, more brilliance in my sound, and a conscious approach to music that focused on solving technical and expressive problems directly. I found that with an approach called The Art of Practicing, which is based on the teachings of Madeline Bruser, author of the book with the same title.

While studying with Ms. Bruser, she introduced me to very basic, but far-reaching concepts such as sitting still yet allowing the arms to just be free to move as they please. Instead of being hunched over and tense, I instantly freed my body to create the brilliant sound I wanted. Further on, she introduced me to other techniques such as moving the wrist forward in certain places to evenly and freely distribute energy, and singing techniques to hear my ideas and arrive at whatever phrasing I wanted to get at the piano. The best thing was that it worked! And I can pass these teachings on to all of you when you take piano lessons in New York City, as even beginners are capable of playing the piano in this simple, yet very effective and beautiful way. If you are ready to begin your musical journey, sign up with a local piano instructor today!
