Dulcimer:
The Appalachian dulcimer is a fretted string instrument of the zither family, typically with three or four strings. Its origins are in the Appalachian region of the United States. The body extends the length of the fingerboard, and its fretting is generally diatonic.
It is a beautiful droning instrument to learn and great for accompanying yourself or others. I always start with the basics of hand and finger technique, notes, chords, and songs. As the student progresses, if interested, I will teach theory and soloing.

Karen fixed my problem in five minutes after I had two years of getting no where. I play clarinet and was curling my fingers like on a clarinet. On a bagpipe, you must lay the fingers flat. Suddenly all the pressure problems with the reed went away.

I've had about 12 lessons with Karen so far. Out of the few guitar teachers I've gone to in my life, Karen is definitely my favorite. She is super encouraging, patient, and careful about details. We started off by going through a beginner's book that covered sight reading and guitar basics, just what I needed. She was very flexible and willing to incorporate singing into the lessons, which helps a lot. Also, she's generally a good person and it's easy to feel comfortable around her -- in the past I have sometimes been so nervous around previous instructors that I could hardly play a note. Not so this time -- I am very happy with the lessons because I feel like I am making progress. Learning to play guitar is a dream of mine and with Karen I feel like I'll get there!

I just finished our new band debut and I must say I got many compliments on my vocals and range. I must give 100% credit to the hard work Kimberly puts into every lesson with focused repetition and many great pointers on taking care of my voice. Her skills and expertise in singing and musical instruments (violin) are exceptional. If you want a teacher who puts heart and soul into every lesson for every student, Kimberly is the one. Thanks Kim!!!

Mark is a great teacher. He is patient, flexible and quick at spotting what you are doing wrong and how you can improve it. I am a novice banjo player, and have been struggling for the longest time with some basic issues. Mark has been helping me move past these fundamental difficulties, and it has been fun too.

Mark is an excellent teacher. He is well versed in Banjo and Mandolin techniques and music theory. He also teaches mountain Dulcimer, I believe. He brings forth the information in an interesting fashion as well as fun. His sense of humor is a delight which helps in the learning process. All in all, he is a teacher worth learning from.

We would like to thank Karen for patiently teaching our son Federico. It was a pity we had to come back to Italy and w're missing such a positive inspiration for our son. Thank you again Karen for your professionalism and love in teaching our young son.

I've been playing and teaching mountain dulcimer for over 30 years. I've given workshops at regional folk festivals, I've taught private lessons, I have released several recordings of my own music, and I've performed in every kind of venue, from coffee houses to concert stages. If you have a dulcimer hanging on the wall, I can show you what to do with it! I'll show you the different turnings and how to improve your strumming. We can try noter-style playing, chords, songwriting, and if you're into performing, I'll give you dulcimer-specific performance tips. It won't take much to get you started on this highly intuitive musical instrument. I can teach at my place or yours. Let's get in touch and I'll answer all your questions!

My 12-year old son was very nervous about meeting Andy and learning to play the drums but Andy was great with him and had him practicing his first drum beat before the end of the session.
