All that I request from a student is a desire to learn. I will work with you at your pace to achieve the musical goals you have. Each student begins at a different level.

The first lesson will focus on your musical background. If you are a beginner, that's no problem. I specialize in working with beginning students to teach them all the joy and satisfaction there is in mastering an instrument.

I love to laugh and the lessons are very laid back and fun, but I desire that a student move forward and learn new techniques.

You will be playing simple songs after your first lesson. I'm asked many times by students "how long will it take until I'm good." My answer is: that is in direct proportion to the amount of time you dedicate to practicing. After a month or two, you will know how to read music and have a basic understanding of music theory.

I use various curriculum depending on the student's need. For piano, I generally use Alfred Methods.

About Don
Don brings over 36 years of teaching experience in Piano, Voice, and Guitar. His relaxed and humorous approach to music encourages students to embrace a love for the musical art.

With 2 American Idol finalists to his credit, along with numerous students who have gone on to professional careers in theater, television, and film. He also has 16 years experience as Musical Director for over 45 theatrical productions in Southern California, Oregon, and Washington.

He has received an award in Southern California for Outstanding Musical Direction in a theatrical production of "The King and I." He is currently the vocal coach for Magenta Theater and Musical Director for Metropolitan Performing Arts Academy, both in Vancouver, WA.

He has traveled the US with The Continental Singers, an international singing group, been a choral director
in churches and various performing groups. He has worked as a recording studio engineer, live sound engineer, and theater sound designer.

Don strives to bring out the best in each student. Whether a beginner, intermediate, or advanced student, Don will expand your musical horizon and styles to new levels.

Don has been great at helping me pinpoint the flaws in my delivery which I had hoped to identify and address. With his wealth of knowledge and past experience to share, I have looked forward to each of our scheduled sessions. In the future when I feel in need of a check-up, I'll be returning to Don for that very thing.

I have been teaching piano since 2010 in a wide variety of settings, styles, and age groups. It is never too early or late to begin leaning piano!

I tailor my teaching approach for the specific needs and goals of each student, always putting their priorities first. While I am versed in theoretical approaches and using method books like Piano Adventures and the Hal Leonard series, I am also fluent in working on contemporary music with a focus on ear training and improvisation.

Students will learn five finger and octave scales as well as simple note reading to more complex with many popular and classical songs. Students will learn how to keep good meter and do written worksheets on basic theory. Students will learn how to play chords and intervals as well as all different types of two handed rhythms.

About Lisa
Hello:
I have been a guitar instructor for over 18 years, and a piano teacher for 6, my piano program is the most popular. I am able to get you playing in no time. I have also tutored elementary students and worked for Montessori's for many years. I really love this job!

I had a real hard time learning guitar when I was growing up because of an accident to my left arm, but I wanted to play so much that I was able to overcome it. Because of this, I think I have learned to be a very patient teacher. I see students who get frustrated and think that it's too hard to play the guitar or piano, but I promise you, my program is fun and simple. I can show you the steps to success. I have taught over 1000 students in a variety of cities from Minneapolis Minnesota, to Los Angeles California, and now Portland Oregon. This is what I do. It is all
I do. I have individually taught over 28,000 lessons total in 18 years, so I have dealt with every kind of person including those with disabilities. I have taught every age from 5-70, but through Take lessons I prefer younger clients due to scheduling conflicts. Older clients are welcome to take lessons through the online platform.

I currently teach Piano to level 4, so if you are a beginner, you will love my new program. Music is my life, I can help you make your dream of playing a musical instrument come true, even in a few short lessons. You can do it! I have worked for Take Lessons a long time and have a good track record.

* I hold recitals twice a year in May and November, however they are not mandatory. Check out my videos.

*** Lesson Details ***
The thing I have learned over the years teaching guitar and piano is that everyone learns differently. I have taught in family situations where there are two or three siblings learning at the same time, but each sibling learned the skills that are unique to them. Some students are better at playing rhythm, some students are better at lead, some students are better with barre chords. some on piano are better with left hand, others with the right. As long as you are enjoying playing the instrument, you will be able to grow in every area at your own pace. Music should be a fun and rewarding experience. My lessons usually include songs that you like to play and are at your level of playing ability. Whatever makes you feel the most comfortable is how you will be able to learn the best. Tell me what you need I am always here to help you.

I provide every student with different pieces according to his/her age and individual abilities. Each student has a different learning speed and level of enthusiasm which needs to be taken into account. With young children I find it helpful to integrate games, stories and pictures to enliven the lesson. I try not to be too strict, but I expect my students to practice at home and not to miss lessons. I use a number of books and methods. After 3 to 6 months a young student will have learned at least 12 notes on the staff, to sight-read easy pieces, to understand count rhythm values, and to play simple songs .

Emily is fantastic! Within the first 15 minutes of my first lesson, I was sounding much, much better. Now I just don't want to put my flute down.

If you are an adult beginner, or "re-beginner," or really anyone wanting to learn and improve, then look no further!!! Emily is hands down the best music instructor I've had the pleasure to study under. As someone with performance anxiety, she helped me feel comfortable playing and was always encouraging--never an unkind word and never made me feel uncomfortable for making mistakes! She truly cares about her students' improvement and that her students find joy in creating music. Emily's knowledge and background is astounding! Need music recommendations? She has them. Need instrument recommendations? She knows what's what. Interested in the history behind music theory and interpretation of classical pieces, she can refer you to countless materials. Emily is a fountain of knowledge and talent. One really cannot find a more wonderful instructor.

I have been teaching piano to adults and children since 1997. I have successfully taught several children all the way though high school. Many of them still play piano which I take as a compliment.

I use the Faber method until level 3 then transition into classical repertoire. I also give the child (or adult) the option of playing pop or jazz. My goal is to get the student to play to the best of their ability. I want them to play like they are telling a story, not just the notes in the page.

About Jenni
I have been teaching piano for over 10 years to adults and children, helping them reach their musical goals and love the piano. I enjoy seeing my students discover new things, solve problems and understand music better even if they have been playing for years. My back ground is largely classical but I can help you with jazz and pop as well.

Studied with Julliard Pedagogue Grace Erickson. 35 years teaching, Emily’s former students include successful professional musicians: Symphonies - Church Organists – Music Educators. Steinway is the favorite piano Emily has performed on.

About Emily
Emily has been teaching piano for over 35 years and she has loved every minute of it. She studied with Julliard Pedagogue Grace Erickson who enjoyed a reputation for producing prize winning students. One of her favorite solo recital performances was dedicated to Grace where she performed Hochzeitstag auf Troldhaugen by Edward Grieg on a beautiful Steinway grand. And she always makes sure than her students also have the opportunity to perform on wonderful instruments as well! Emily also studied with the renowned Debra O'Dell, Gonzaga University Faculty Emeritus, studying for her Degree in Piano Performance at North Idaho College.

Emily's former students include successful professional musicians: toured internationally as a musician, training to be a Church Organist, professional musician that has performed in Symphonies, profession
al musician doing corporate events and weddings, music educators, composers, just to name a few, along with many other past students that she loves to keep in touch with from over the years.

Just as her teachers instilled in her, Emily works with her piano students intensely with technique while at the same time teaching them to believe in themselves and to let emotions show in the music as it is played. Classical music interpretation skills and musical tone are an important aspect of her teaching style.

Whether a little child having fun at the piano, a group music class, a teenager that performs with a Youth Symphony, a student auditioning for a scholarship, a student preparing to be a College Music Major or an Adult Beginner, Emily is an amazing treasure to be found.

Emily comes from a large entertainment family who she has collaborated with over the years, including an Uncle who was in Frank Sinatra's Orchestra, another Uncle who was the voice of Fred Flinstone, Opera singers, Movie Director, Symphony Orchestra musician, actors and actresses, dancers and choreographers, composers, and even a silent film actress. Her grandmother gave up singing Opera at the Met to have a family because in those days you did not do both, you had to choose. Her own Mother performed Debussy, Beethoven, Scarlotti and much more on the piano. It is no wonder that Emily is "The go-to music educator and piano teacher with a reputation for her own playing and for producing outstanding piano students". Former Music Faculty at Living Preschool.
