My teaching revolves around students with disabilities because that is my area of expertise. Working at Hostos Community College in the Arc program I was able to work with a variety of amazing students who needed more patience, understanding and routine. I focus on repetition and use online programs such as Emedia and Noteflight to enhance my assignments so the tutoring is never dull.

Hi I'm James! With degrees form the Juilliard School and Yale University, I have 20 years experience teaching all ages and a variety of styles and methods. I tailor my lessons to each student according to their interests and goals and get a lot of fulfillment from helping people develop their skills in and enjoyment of music.

I place high emphasis on music literacy and take time to help my students reach fluency when it comes to both reading and writing music. Every lesson, part of the time is spent focused on music theory to build understanding of not just piano but music itself.

I am an experienced teacher, active and accredited member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), and have experience in a variety of settings from standard private lessons to university pre-college faculty positions to summer festivals and intensives. I welcome any and all levels of pianists with the end goal of providing quality music education across the board. Whether you are hoping to go into music professionally or not, I believe that any approach to the keyboard deserves the highest level of teaching on my part. This is why my lessons are not simply 30/45/60 minutes a week but an ongoing partnership where I offer guidance and support as you explore what it is that you want within the wide and wonderful field of music. Whether this entails a professional opinion on an instrument, a safe place to express yourself, or a starting point for your artistic digital portfolio, it is my belief that our community can and will help you achieve whatever it is you set out to do.

I have been a music teacher for over 20 years and teach students from age 5 and up for both piano and voice. I am a certified ABRSM instructor and I have prepared many students for ABRSM exams both Practical and Theory through Level 8 in both singing and piano performance. I have also prepared many students for the NFMC Annual Festivals. Many of my students have become performing artists, won talent shows, received music awards with distinction, performed in Broadway shows and other plays internationally, and many were awarded college scholarships for music. I’d like to believe I inspire a love for music through my own passion for it. Taking lessons should be fun but we must also agree that it takes hard work and dedication to become a talented musician.
