About Jennifer
My name is Jennifer. I got my degree in vocal performance and minored in Jazz. I began voice lessons myself when I was eight. I am a mezzo soprano, and can teach both female and male voices. I have performed in several opera productions including but not limited to The Marriage of Figaro, Dido and Aeneus, Tenderland, and Hand of Bridge. I have worked and performed in masterworks by Brahms, Chopin, Mozart to name a few. I studied in French, English, Spanish, Italian, and German. I studied diction, ear training, piano, music history, pedagogy, and music theory. I have also performed with artists such as New York Voices, Bobby Mcferrin and Kurt Elling. I was blessed with many learning opportunities to grow in my passion and I would love to pass that knowledge and passion to anyone who wants to learn.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are de
signed around the needs of each student. The first lessons is always spent testing range, knowledge and abilities already known by the student. Then the student weighs in on what kind of music they would like to learn and what they hope to gain from the lessons. Theory and ear training are incorporated into the lessons. We work on breathing, technique and style. Generally we start with English or Italian. We work on vocal performance from a classical standpoint but Jazz and Broadway can also be taught if desired by the student. Scales and exercises are given each week to be worked on until the next lesson. A recording device is encouraged if the student cannot play the piano. Also, a voice note book to take notes during the lesson to be used during practice during the week.

*** Specialties ***

I offer piano lessons to students of all ages at any skill level.

For beginning students, we focus on fundamental techniques, introductory concepts such as scales and triads, and learning to read music. Together, we'll map out a curriculum based on what you want to be able to do and what we need to focus on to get there. Again, beginners of any age are welcome. I've educated children as young as 3 years old and also taught a 65 year old student who was a total beginner.

Advanced areas of study include jazz and classical performance and improvisation in any style. Students can elect to include any amount of additional topics into their lesson curriculum, such as music theory, ear training, songwriting, etc.

About Pete
My name is Pete. I've been playing guitar for over 18 years. In 2011 I graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in Professional Music. There, I spent several semesters studying with Tomo Fujita (former teacher of John Mayer and Eric Krasno). I've also been lucky enough to study with some incredible guitarists like Pat Martino, Pat Metheny, Jonathan Kreisberg, Jack Pezanelli, and Gilad Hekselman. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Wes Montgomery, Dave Matthews, and Jimi Hendrix are responsible for inspiring me to play guitar and I specialize in teaching blues and jazz guitar, bass, ukulele, and piano. I firmly believe that every serious musician should study ear training and music theory and I incorporate these areas in my lessons as long as the student wants to study this way. I've performed with a bunch of great artists in t
he Boston and Philadelphia area.
In 2011, I successfully obtained my master's degree in Jazz Studies from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. The master's program was an intense submersion in music performance that shaped me into the musician that I am today. I was lucky to study with Don Glanden, Mike Kennedy, and Kevin Hanson.
I am also well versed in computer recording software and DAWs. I teach students how to use software programs such as Logic and Reason as well as notation software like Sibelius and Finale. With some basic training in these programs, I can teach a student how to effectively record and produce professional quality recordings so that a student can write, record, and produce their own music.

*** Lesson Details ***
Because I've studied with some legendary teachers who have taught some legendary students (like John Mayer), I'm able to pass on to my students the same knowledge that these incredible teachers passed on to me. I guarantee that I will be unlike any guitar teacher that you've had before. Along with instrumental training, I offer extensive lessons in music theory and ear training. My family is full of educators and I've experienced the teacher-student relationship from a young age. I am fully committed to developing lesson plans based on the route that a student wants to take, whether it's just learning the basics and playing along to your favorite songs or engaging in serious study and preparing for college auditions. I am available to teach at any location within the Philadelphia area.

*** Stylistic Focus ***
I specialize in jazz and blues. At Berklee, I was able to take instrumental labs that spent an entire semester focusing on the playing style of certain guitarists. I've taken the Wes Montgomery lab, the Pat Martino lab, the Jimi Hendrix lab, the John Scofield lab, and the Stevie Ray Vaughan lab.

I have been playing the piano for 12 years, and I have been teaching piano for over 1.5 years. I have helped many students start out by getting acquainted with the keys on the piano, learning small studies, scales and some basic music theory along the way!

As time passes, you will go on to perfect finger patterns, warm up in multiple scales, and even do NYSSMA prep and get ready for future auditions.

My main specialty is classical music, but I have worked on Broadway hits, film numbers and even pop songs with many of my piano students. I love working with students of all ages and levels, and I am looking forward to working with you!

I am a graduate of the Columbia-Juilliard exchange program with ten years of teaching experience in beginner to intermediate classical piano and beginner to advanced jazz piano. I also teach accordion, as well as jazz and pop composition, jazz theory and music history. I'm a full time performing musician, so I can teach skills that are relevant to a performing career, but I'm also just as happy to teach someone who has never played an instrument before. Every student is different, and so I believe in catering my lesson plan to the needs and wants of each student, beginning from their goals and working towards a comprehensive knowledge of the piano.

About Ben
My name is Ben, and I am a full-time performing jazz pianist and accordionist based in New York City (you can learn more about my music career in my professional bio, which is included below). I have been teaching for ten years in just about every setting (from classroom to private, young to old, jazz and classical). I love teaching because I love learning how to communicate and connect with people of all different backgrounds and learning styles, and I enjoy sharing the journey of music with others and coming to understand what music means to them. Every person has a different goal, and if I can help people learn how to take manageable steps towards that goal every day, I feel I have succeeded. Hope to meet you soon!

Professional Bio:

Ben is a jazz pianist, accordionist and composer based in New York City, and a graduate of the exc
hange program between Columbia University and Juilliard School of Music. His work has garnered numerous awards, including the ASCAP Young Jazz Composers award in 2010 (and an honorable mention in 2018), the Downbeat Student Music Award for Best Original Song in 2010, and the Downbeat Student Music Award for Best Arrangement in 2011. Ben has played with the Bachiana Brasileira Orchestra at Lincoln Center (conducted by Joao Carlos Martins and featuring Dave Brubeck), as well as in Delhi, India, and at the Masten Jazz Festival (Buffalo), Richmond Jazz Festival (Richmond), Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival (Maryland) and Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival (Manhattan). He has also performed at Carnegie Hall, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, the Allen Room at Lincoln Center, Ryles Jazz Club, Webster Hall, Symphony Space, The Blue Note and a host of other locations throughout the northeast. Ben has worked extensively with such jazz luminaries as Curtis Lundy, Neal Smith, Winard Harper, Wayne Escoffery and Deborah Davis, and he has shared the stage with Houston Person, Jerry Dodgion, Warren Wolf, Eliot Zigmund and many more. Recently, Ben was a finalist at the 2015 American Jazz Pianist Competition in Melbourne, Florida, and at the 2016 Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition in Jacksonville, Florida.

Ben is the founder of the Columbia Jazz House, a student-run jazz advocacy group at Columbia University that promotes jazz on campus through concerts, educational workshops and jam sessions. On December 28th, 2015, the Columbia Jazz House was featured in a New York Times article called "Melodies Night and Day in This Columbia Dorm."

Ben is not only a very talented pianist and kind human being, but he is an incredibly intuitive teacher who understands how to constructively offer suggestions for what needs to be improved but also knows how to push you to the next level (in a way that seems on the edges of what is reachable). This makes learning the piano so exciting, productive, and varied and fun. I highly recommend Ben. It is a privilege to learn from and with him.

I am highly professional but also a fun teacher. I began studying music in St. Petersburg, Russia. At 10 years of age I began my studies at the Pre-College Division of The Juilliard School -- my first teaching position was in 1982 as an Assistant to my first Juilliard piano teacher. I have taught all levels and all ages since then. I am tough and demanding but I also love children and believe that music is not a luxury but a necessity for them. I love preparing children for performances, competitions, and auditions to music schools as well as world's best conservatories.
I love to teach children to sight-read (so they can enjoy pieces faster), to compose, and even to paint pictures that represent pieces they are playing!

About Elena
Hi, my name is Elena. I love music and would be happy to teach anyone who will in some way benefit and fall in love with the piano.

I began playing piano in St. Petersburg, Russia and continued (from age 10) studying at The Juilliard School in New York City. I studied at The Juilliard for 14 years -- ultimately earning my BA and MA degrees. I worked with some of the world's most renowned pianists and teachers -- Nadia Reisenberg, Adele Marcus, William Masselos, Jacob Lateiner, Vladimir Viardo, Dorothy DeLay, Harvey Shapiro and Tossy Spivakovsky.

I am a concert pianist and a recording artist. I have performed throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Russia. I have performed solo recitals, been a soloist with numerous orchestras, and have played many different kinds of Chamber Music. I have collaborated with many contemporary comp
osers who wrote dedicated their music to me.

My teaching career began at The Juilliard School where I became an Assistant to my Pre-College teacher at 18 years old. Since then, I have taught numerous students preparing them for performances, auditions for specialized schools, national and international competitions and auditions to some of the most prestigious conservatories in the world.

I am very strict but I never yell and try to have as much fun as possible during the lessons. I look forward to meeting you!!!!!!!

I have been giving lessons since 2006, and I have seen music enrich the lives of many in countless ways. Whether you are looking for a new hobbie, a new passion, or for something to keep your kids engaged and busy, learning an instrument has endless benefits both long term and short.
I will make a personalized lesson plan based on 2 big questions: why do you want to take lessons? Where do you want to be at the end of it?
Lets go from there.

About Rachel
I have been playing the piano and the trombone since childhood. Growing up in a musical family, music has always played a big part in my life. I was active in school bands in addition to taking private lessons throughout grade school. In high school I was a member of Tri-M (a musical honor society), qualified for district band through audition, and was ranked in the top 10% of trombone players in the state of Virginia. Throughout my education I developed a working knowledge of brass instruments, music theory, a variety of playing styles, and much more.

After high school, I pursued and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University, while continuing my musical career, playing in bands offered by the school as well as in the Richmond area. I am currently active with the ACCA Temple Shiners in their German band
, The Sauerkrauts, 100% of whose proceeds go to benefit children in Shriner-owned hospitals.

I have been giving private lessons since 2006, and have a deep passion for musical education. I feel learning to play an instrument enriches life in a way few other things can.
