Never played before? Played years ago and want to start again? Looking for a new teacher? Wherever you are in your development I can help you establish good technique to play any style beautifully and expressively.

Includes technique, sight-reading, musicality, repertoire selection, music theory, etc., according to the student's experience and needs.

About Barbee
Hi! My name is Barbee and I’ve been teaching and singing professionally for over ten years. I love helping my students reach their musical goals, while having fun making music at the same time!

I accept students of all levels and ages 8 and up. Some of my students are working musicians, actors, and voice actors; many are teenagers who aspire to study music and/or theatre in college and become professional performers. And of course many are enthusiastic avocational singers and pianists who simply love music and want to work on their technique in a fun environment.

Some recent student accomplishments include:
*Leading roles in musicals and operas
*International concert tours
*Acceptance to multiple NYC performing arts high schools
*Multiple scholarship offers from universities to study music
*Acceptance to pre-professional traini
ng programs such as Paper Mill Playhouse and AMDA Summer Conservatories

Both voice and piano lessons are based on a foundation of healthy technique while incorporating musicianship skills and encouraging the student to develop their own creativity. I am experienced in teaching many genres and styles including Broadway/musical theater, classical/opera, pop, rock, R&B, country, and folk. I encourage my students to explore new styles and apply good technique to any style they may choose to sing or play.

I love helping my students prepare for auditions. As an active performer myself I have auditioned many, MANY times for different organizations, and I have also been on "the other side of the table" and I know what qualities audition panels are looking for. Let me help you show your best qualities at your audition!

As a member of both NATS (National Association for Teachers of Singing) and ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) I am constantly working to improve my teaching skills by keeping up with the latest pedagogical research. I love sharing new tips and techniques with my students!

I strive to create a lesson environment that is open and honest, where my students are never afraid to ask questions or try something new. I am always happy to explain concepts in a different way and I encourage improvisation and creativity in addition to healthy technique and strong musicianship.

If you have any questions for me, please don’t hesitate to send me a message by clicking “Ask Barbee a Question” at the top of the page.

In-studio equipment: Yamaha P-115 digital piano with 3-pedal unit and bench, music stands, large library of scores and anthologies for repertoire exploration

Please note that you MUST have an acoustic or digital piano with weighted keys for in-home piano lessons. You MUST have a piano or keyboard for in-home voice lessons. If you are looking to purchase an instrument I am happy to provide recommendations.

Please note that students are expected to purchase all music, curriculum, and other materials as appropriate.

I've studied classical, jazz and rock piano with the finest teachers in the world, and bring that perspective and experience to each lesson. Learning music should be FUN, which is emphasized particularly with younger students. What do YOU want to be able to do on the piano? I can help get you there!

About Steven
Hailing from New York City, Steven W. has been involved in the performing arts his entire life, which began as he received his training from a number prestigious arts institutions...Julliard (where he studied piano), New York University (where he studied music education), and the Katie Agresta Vocal Studio (whose other students include Sting, Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper, Annie Lenox and many more, including the casts of numerous Broadway shows).

Steven is currently an indie rock solo singer/musician/producer with a number of albums in release (on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and more); recently spent two months as NY's #1 indie artist on Reverbnation's charts, and continues to perform all over the country. Steven also records and tours with country artists, playing huge festivals all over the world.

Having performed on small cabaret stages
for just a few people, and in stadiums for 60,000, he believes in not only teaching technique, but also how to tailor a performance for the appropriate situation. It's this combination of technical training, and performance experience, that Steven brings to his classes as a teacher.

I take beginner level students on piano. My 30 years of music studies far surpasses my time on the piano. However, In many of the schools I teach, often beginning piano students will choose me over a more accomplished pianist, simply because of my teaching styles and methods. I will teach proper technique, scales and warm ups, theory, etc. I am also more open to teaching not just from method books, but also teaching Pop, Rock, and Hip Hop songs songs the student is into.

About Daniel
- I have a record of success with students of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, and goals
- I teach using a variety of methods and styles, including my own authored books
- I own a music academy where I train others to be successful instructors
- I have a very high student retention rate
- I've been playing over 25 years
- I have a BA in Music from Florida State University
- I have been teaching for 17 years
- I have personally taught over 15,000 private lessons
- I have played in numerous bands
- I have gigged professionally

*** Lesson Details ***
I customize the lessons to the goals of each student. Whether it's for fun and leisure or a driven passion with serious goals, I can give you the tools to accomplish what you want! I love teaching people through the music that they love. So, whether that's Britney Spears, Metallic
a, or Bach, the concepts underlying music are basically the same. I will make sure you can play the music you love and hopefully help you explore new music as well.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In my studio I have a Guild Classical, Alvarez Acoustic, and Epiphone Electric.

All the accessories needed as well. Music Stands, Foot Stools, Picks, Straps, Slides, Tuners, Books, etc.

I also use an iMac in lessons. I like incorporating technology when appropriate, to look up tunes, or do a recording session, it's a necessary tool to learn nowadays.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will bring everything we need to conduct a proper lesson remotely. I do recommend you have your own guitar though.

*** Specialties ***
For all the advanced knowledge I have and years of teaching students of all kinds, my favorite is teaching beginners. I love seeing someone come in with no knowledge of music, and taking them from milestone to milestone. I love watching new musicians blossom.

I play, teach, and perform most frequently in classical, rock, blues, and pop genres.

I have been teaching music for over 6 years. I teach all genres from beginner to intermediate, and advanced for classical piano only. All ages are welcome! I was trained in classical piano at the Manhattan School of Music, and graduated from New York University with a major in music composition & theory and a minor in jazz piano. I have a specific teaching curriculum designed for each of my students of various levels and genres. I always tell my students that for any style, if you want to play it well, it requires a solid technical foundation-- a muscle memory on its own that can be very hard to change if learned wrong. Once you picked this up, and a couple tricks in sight reading, you’d be on you way soon to playing any song you like!

Kellon was what I hoped for; he plays and sings well- my music and his. We warmed up, then practiced some of my chorus music with him singing tenor to my alto, then we recorded the alto to Steal Away and the chorus to The A Train for me to learn. Perfect. Will be a big challenge to sing alto against a strong tenor.

My approach to teaching involves developing a comprehensive understanding of what one is doing while playing, rather than just learning a couple of songs, or relying solely on your muscle memory, you will be able to explain what you are doing from a theoretical standpoint.

Without getting too heavy with the use of technical terms, I will teach you to see the underlying threads that apply to all styles of music and encourage you to begin making these types of connections yourself.
This is an important skill to develop early so that as you progress you can begin to teach yourself develop your own unique stylistic approaches to music!

After studying at Laguardia High school for the Performing Arts, I attended McGill University in Montreal where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Jazz Piano Performance.

If you study with me you will be able to expand your knowledge of:
-Music Theory
-Harmony
-Piano technique
-Ear Training
-Sight Reading
-Composition
-Improvisation

About Chris
Born and raised in downtown Manhattan, I have studied music for over 15 years now. When I was about 8 years old I started studying classical piano, and to be perfectly honest, it was like pulling teeth to get me to play.
The repetitious nature of learning classical etude after etude wore down upon me at that young age and it was hard for me to focus on it.

Then I learned about the blues scale and picked up the electric guitar...
After starting to play some blues piano and studying with guitar player
Scott Sharrard of the Gregg Allman band, I started to really enjoy playing music.
I was also playing Trumpet in my middle school band (NYC Lab school) although the constant upkeep trumpet requires made it hard to study three instruments at once...

I proceeded to go to Laguardia High school where I decided to zero in on the piano, studying t
heory and piano technique extensively, and deciding to study jazz as well as classical music.
I began to compose my own tunes and study improvisation diligently, and ended up earning my Bachelor's degree from McGill University.
If you choose to study with me, I will guarantee that you will have fun and see music as more than just a sequence of abstract notes... you will learn how certain chord progressions imply certain emotional settings, and how to manipulate those progressions into creating a scene or narrative!

Now I have record my own jazz albums, and play keyboards in a rock band called "Caverns" based here in NYC.

Additionally, I am also fluent in Ableton and record my own electronic music which I am willing to teach, as it is an important skill in the 21st century music scene.
Thank you for your consideration!

Hi! I'm Nina, and even though I'm only 17, I've been playing the piano for over a decade and have been teaching since 2015. I have most experience with beginner and intermediate students at a preK-12 level. In my lessons, I prioritize the cultivation of creativity, musicianship, and artistry in lessons, so I tend to focus on teaching students the theory behind their pieces in addition to technique. My goal with each student is to help them become the musician they see themselves as in their mind's eye.

Students will receive free summary sheets that show of all the concepts they learned that day, as well as their practice material for the week.

I look forward to helping your child realize their full potential!

About Nina
Hi! I'm Nina, and even though I'm only seventeen, I've been playing the piano for over a decade and have been teaching since 2015. I began playing piano when I was just five years old, when my mother began working overtime as a maid to pay for the lessons. After we moved out to Texas, I began working as a piano teacher and accompanist for vocal competitions -- all before getting out of middle school.

Now that I've settled in Jersey, I've become the accompanist for my high school's choir, and have continued to teach lessons across Hudson County. In addition to being classically trained, I have cultivated my ear and improvisation skills so deeply that I can play any song in the world just by listening to it a few times.

This duality helps me tailor lessons to fit the individual goals of the student. Whether you want to learn the tra
ditional classical method, begin writing your own music, or just want to play your favorite pop tunes, I can help you become the musician you've always wished you could be. I have most experience with beginner and intermediate students at a K-12 level.

In each lesson, you will receive a free summary sheet that details of all the material covered during the lesson and enumerates the practice material for that week. I understand that it can be difficult to afford lessons, so I am very flexible in payment and am willing to work with your budget.

I look forward to helping you become a better musician!

Strict but enjoyable and extremely rewarding piano lessons with a teacher that performs in concerts worldwide and studied at the most renowned Universities.

About Robin
Praised for his “stunning bravura and seemingly unlimited virtuosity” (Epoch Times) and “nimbleness at the keys” (Cologne-City News), German-Bulgarian pianist Robin Giesbrecht has been celebrated internationally with a career reaching mature artistry. Since winning the International Grotrian-Steinweg Competition and the NDR Arts Prize, Mr. Giesbrecht has enjoyed performances with orchestras throughout Europe, Asia and North America, including debuts with the NDR Radio Philharmonic.

Robin Giesbrecht’s recital performances include critically-acclaimed debuts at the Hamburg Philharmonic Hall, Carnegie Hall’s Weil Recital Hall, Beijing’s National Conservatory Recital Hall and a performance of his own piano concerto at Lincoln Center in 2015. His chamber music collaborations include performances with the famed Szymanowski Quartet. He has perf
ormed at music festivals such as Music Academy of the West, Oxford Philharmonic Piano Festival, Piano Texas, Menuhin Festival in Gstaad and the Sommerakademie Mozarteum, Salzburg.

An internationally renowned pianist from a young age as a first-prize winner at the Rotary International Competition in Essen and the National Competition of Germany, Mr. Giesbrecht became a student of famed pedagogue Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the age of 8. In 2006, the Austrian TV channel ORF filmed in honor of Mozart’s anniversary a movie in which Mr. Giesbrecht, dressed as Mozart, performed on Mozart’s original pianoforte in Salzburg, an event that was broadcasted worldwide. In 2008, the German TV channel WDR made a documentary about the life of the young pianist.
Robin Giesbrecht, a Steinway Artist, was awarded the Vladimir Horowitz scholarship at the Juilliard School as a student of Jerome Lowenthal and Joseph Kalichstein, where he received his undergraduate degree. He recently graduated with a Master of Music degree as a scholarship student from the Yale School of Music, where he studied with Peter Frankl.
