Piano Lessons in Cook Sta. Amazing Teachers.

Experienced Piano teacher since 2012: I am available to teach eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation in their piano skills. I specialize in classical, gentle, and theatrical music. I typically use the Faber Piano Adventures series for beginning and some intermediate students, however I will choose a curriculum that fits the student. I supplement the series with works by classical composers or music theme songs from TV shows, Disney movies, or Broadway shows. I also have the following tools available to use during lessons: pianos, sheet music, and more.

I come from a jazz background in piano, so the focus for my class is more on understanding the instrument as an extension of your hands. While many classical pianists focus on the written music and technique, I will focus more on using the piano as a tool for creation and for expression. Technique will still be involved as it is important to develop good habits and will make playing easier, but my ultimate goal is to allow each student to better express their artistry. For beginners I start with scales and simple progressions, then lead to larger topics on theory that will help understand the instrument and improvise.

I have a professional full-length Yamaha MOX8 keyboard with which I teach my lessons. The MOX8 features 88 weighted keys which provide a quality piano-like feel, as well 1,217 voices to play with. Please note this keyboard is only available for lessons in my home studio.

My main goal is making sure the student is having fun while learning! I cater my lessons around the individual student, because I think that students learn the best doing something they love. I cover the fundamentals - music theory, proper technique, note reading - while incorporating songs and activities the student will enjoy. While every student will learn the basics, I focus in on the student's specific interest during the lesson, whether that's classical music, pop, musical theater, or jazz.

I have loved this instrument from the beginning, and you will, too. I've performed a diverse array of music in many different contexts, from playing jazz in cafes and Debussy & Bach in recitals, to leading Beatles singalongs from the piano bench. In music school, I tutored many of my peers in the piano curriculum. People start playing piano for different reasons and with different goals, and my job as your teacher is to help you meet those goals, while also giving you a firm understanding of music and how the instrument works.
