Hello future piano students -- welcome!!

Piano is a great starter instrument and you will always sound great on it! Classes begin with introduction to proper hand positions, posture, and placement. Note reading along with proper technique is emphasized. We gradually introduce both hands as we gain more confidence and facility in note-reading.

Basic harmony and theory is also discussed while exploring various styles such as classical, pop, rock, and jazz.

About Nicolas
Hello there, future string players and welcome to my profile!!

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Miami, FL. I started my musical career at the age of 8, singing in chorus, playing the recorder, and shortly afterwards moving to the guitar, and the violin.

When I was 15, I was nominated for a James L. Knight Award in Music, and I performed as a violin soloist with the Miami Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony playing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major. One of my most memorable experiences when I was a kid! In high school, I formed my own string quartet and we would perform all over the South Florida community especially at hospitals and for the elderly. At 16 years old, I was also given an internship with the New World Symphony, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, for about 2
years. During this time, I was able to take lessons from master violinists such as Marc Thayer and Glen Cherry. During this time, I was given the opportunity to perform with the New World Symphony at 17 years old for pops concert conducted and performed by Chuck Mangione in El Doral, FL.

I later on accepted a scholarship for violin performance at the University of Miami for my Bachelor of Music, and earned my Master of Music from Florida State University. I also taught string orchestras for 10 years at Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center, South Florida Youth Symphony as conductor (and now composer!), and conductor of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. I was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Alhambra Orchestra for two seasons under the guidance of my high school orchestra teacher, Mr. Reginald Nicholson (1947-2011). It was here where I was able to work on my compositions, orchestrations, and conduct a fine group of musicians.

I now live in sunny Los Angeles, in the Sherman Oaks area, and I'm loving the new change. I am eager to share my knowledge with new students on various subjects such as learning a string instrument to learning a different language. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your goals for learning!

LESSON DETAILS
I have been teaching music as an adult, certified teacher since I was in college, but have done teaching as early as 15 years old.

I will help you create a fantastic technical base so you will be able to play with ease as your skill level develops, all while keeping the lessons fun and engaging.

MUSIC STUDIO
Piano, Violin, Guitar, Music Stand, General Teaching Aids, Recording Equipment.

TRAVEL EQUIPMENT
I can provide a music stand and basic materials but the student is expected to have their own instruments and to buy the music I recommend. I can recommend various vendors/shops where you can buy the ideal instrument for your lessons.

EXPERTISE
I am classically-trained musician that also specializes in Tango performance, Latin/Jazz, Rock, and a variety of other styles. I believe that training in the classical aesthetic will create a firm, solid foundation to crossover into other areas listed above. With a good dose of technical exercises, scales, and a variety of repertoire, my students always turn out well-rounded, ready to tackle almost any kind of music they wish to learn.

Thank you for stopping by and let me know what you would like to learn!

As a 30-something adult beginner, I chose Nick as my teacher for his experience and talent. When we had our first few lessons, I knew he was the real deal. He knows his orchestral string instruments, especially my instrument of choice: the viola. I was even more impressed since he has performed with musicians like Chuck Mangione, Barbara Cook, and Andrea Bocelli. He has made my lessons fun, exciting, and very engaging. I highly recommend Nick to anyone wanting to learn a string instrument!

Inherited a grand piano, but now it's collecting dust in your living room? Blow the dust off, and get your fingers warmed up... let's learn how to play the keys together!

About Nicole
Nicole is available to teach lessons for students of all levels. Beginning her singing career when she was 7, she most recently sang at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, was a winner of the international CS Competition in musical theatre, and is a Chicago F.A.M.E. finalist for Jazz and popular music. Combined with her training and professional experience, Nicole teaches singers to switch gracefully between multiple styles. She practices what she preaches: one night she might be singing Beyoncé, and the next morning she might be singing Handel's Messiah!

Nicole has been a young artist for Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Metropolitan International Music Festival, and for Tiroler Opern Programm, under international instructors, including Elizabeth Bachman (from the Metropolitan Opera), Kim Josephson (Metropolitan Opera), Sharon Cheng (Caramoor),
Michael Fennely (Carnegie Hall), Wei-En Hsu (Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra), and Candace Evans (Santa Fe Opera). Nicole earned her Associates in Theatre from Brigham Young University ('12) and went on to acquire her BM in Vocal Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University ('14). Nicole obtained additional training from Boston University, Elon University, and the University of Alaska Anchorage.

I primarily teach improvisation to my students. While I am a classical trained musician my degrees in composition and my background as an improviser have allowed me to specialize as an improvisor. I will teach students at any skill level, how to sit down at a piano and make music, with or without sheet music in front of them.

About Spencer
I am a composer and improviser with a masters degree from New York University, and will be starting a Doctorate in Music Composition and Theory from Michigan State University in the fall of 2018 where I will be teaching theory. I am an active composer who frequently composes music for various artists throughout the country. I have worked with artists throughout various musical spectrums including film, video games, and classical, but specialize in new music.

I have a passion for teaching, and take a very active role in my students development. It is my goal that I help a student develop their voice, as well as focus on technique, notation, and orchestration. I teach primarily online, but am open to an in person lessons when appropriate.

I have worked with quite a few major ensembles including the JACK Quartet, PRISM Saxophone Quar
tet, The Rogue Trio, The Lotus Trio, The New Thread Quartet, among others. I have also won various awards, including an ASCAP Plus award, and the abundant silence composition competition.

I am a DMA student in Piano Performance at Michigan State University where I concurrently serve as a Graduate Assistant in Collaborative Piano.

I bring more than seventeen years of experience in teaching in both the U.S and my home country, Georgia, where as a Graduate Teaching Assistant I taught applied piano lessons for undergraduate piano performance majors at Tbilisi State Conservatory.

My students regularly played solo recitals and successfully participated in various music festivals and piano competitions.

I also really enjoy working with beginning students to set up their fundamentals and develop their musicality.

In my private studio in Tbilisi I taught students from ages 6 to adult on piano, composition and music theory. My students did both group and solo recitals on a regular basis in many professional and nonprofessional venues throughout the country; I also had my students play concertos with orchestra. I use both a traditional Moscow school approach and a teaching ...

About Jemal
Teaching music for me is a form of a making music together. I approach teaching music as building personality rather than just working on skills. I learn a lot from my students as each has something unique to share and to express through music. I encourage my students to make decisions about musical choices in their performance. At the same time I am very much goal oriented tutor, planing ahead students progress, communicating with parents to maximize students motivation and development, approaching each student individually to choose the most appropriate strategy to achieve the best results.

In addition to teaching solo piano performance I have teaching experiences in collaborative piano, theory, and composition. In my private studio I gave composition lessons as well as taught Music Theory for high school students preparing fo
r entrance exams at Tbilisi State Conservatory. All my music theory students successfully passed entrance exams.

As a composer I wrote music for many different theatrical performances in various drama theatres of my country like Academic Drama Theatre, Royal District Drama Theatre, State Youth Theatre and others. In 2013 I founded Tbilisi Klezmer Music Band which was the first Klezmer Band in Georgia. As a pianist I played many recitals both in my home country and abroad (Sweden, Germany, France, Italy and the U.S.) performing wide variety of repertoire both solo and with orchestra.
