I've been playing piano and keyboard instruments for 30 years, and teaching for 12.

About Aaron
Berklee College of Music graduate, Aaron M., has been teaching students of all ages for over 12 years.
"I love watching young musicians grow into seasoned players and have had tremendous success with all my students. I believe that learning songs and playing music is a critical element in the learning process of becoming a good drummer/pianist, and musician. This is why I bring a powered PA speaker, mp3 player, and (sometimes) a guitar to my lessons for the student to play along with and learn familiar songs. Over the years I've learned to strike a balance between Reading/Rudiments and Playing/having fun, so as to maintain students interests and growth."

My boys, ages 7 & 5, started piano lessons with Aaron a year ago. He has taught them technique & theory all while using songs they boys love. There are days that the boys are not the most cooperative. Aaron is amazingly patient and persistent in getting the boys to do their lessons. I really appreciate and have learned from this patience when it comes to the nightly practicing. I am pleased that the boys have been working with a male teacher and I think it really helps them relate to the music and the lessons. If you are looking for a patient yet knowledgeable piano teacher, I would definitely recommend Aaron.

Jean started taking piano lessons as a kid and by high school was accompanying the school chorus. Jean has a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Arts from Bradford College and studied piano there with Mark Peterson. Jean is also an accomplished organist, having studied with Bruce Porter as well as recording artist and organ soloist Malcolm Halliday. Jean worked for several years as organist at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Harvard MA. Jean also holds an MBA in E-Business and is currently working on a degree in elementary education.

About Jean
Jean is patient, fun, and imaginative. She also loves passing on the gift of music to anyone wanting to learn!

Jean's philosophy of teaching is; 1. Taking on any new task requires time and discipline. Mistakes are a part of the learning process. The biggest challenges reap the greatest rewards.

2. The student and teacher are a team! The teacher and student will work together to learn together. As the student is learning new skills and techniques, the teacher is learning all about the student and their specialized needs.

Jean's Education:

Jean is a graduate of Bradford College in Bradford MA with a Bachelors Degree in Creative Arts. Her major instrument is piano.

Jean's Experience:

Jean began playing piano at the age of 5. Taking a break from lessons for a few years as a teenager and picking it up again in College.

Jean has been teaching piano for 10 years.

*** Lesson Details ***
Within a lesson, students can expect to be given instruction on developing proper technique. (scales, chords, basic music theory etc). The learning environment will be laid back and fun, with the student and teacher setting goals together, and reasonable expectations will be held for both the student and teacher.

Jean will ask what it is in particular that the student is wanting to learn, and will seek to develop curriculum centered around the student's goals. Weekly practice (5 days a week, 20-30 minutes a day) will be the encouraged minimum. This will vary slightly depending on individual student needs.

Students will have the opportunity to learn to play music by composers such as Mozart and Bach. They can also learn how to play movie soundtracks, tunes from their favorite Broadway or Disney songs, and more! Vocal students will have the opportunity to learn show tunes, Italian arias, German songs, praise and worship songs, their favorites from musicals, and more.

Hello!

At Drake, I received a musical scholarship covering 80% of my tuition costs.
I was also honored to sit as Principal Flute in both the Drake Symphony Orchestra and the Drake Wind Symphony, the top performing groups at the University.

my love and passion for music have only grown and matured since then.

I enjoy sharing what I've learned, and learning from my students as well.

We covered so much in such a short time. She made every minute both fun and informative while providing a very friendly environment in her studio. I feel very fortunate to have found such a really competent music teacher.

I enjoy working with most of my students, especially those who practice hard. I find all students unique and they response differently to my requests or questions. I feel that very often I need to react spontaneously to their responses. For the beginners I mainly focus on reading musical notes and learning correct rhythmic values. With beginners who haven’t played the piano at all I teach finger exercises written finger numbers only. Then I use Piano Adventures theory, lesson, technique and artistry, performance, and popular music books. Although Alfred’s and Bastien’s methods are well known, I prefer Piano Adventures because they introduce the coordination of right and left hand in more progressive manner. At the beginning the following will be covered.
• Postures at the piano, finger numbers, high and low on the keyboard
• Music alphabet, Intervals
• Musical form, Dynamic marks
• Staff; line notes, space notes
• Time signature, accent mark, legato, staccato
• Basic chords ...

Been meeting with Tyler for 4 lessons now and cannot give anything but the highest praise for him. Before we began we set the outline for what
I wanted to do and how he could help - the planning was good but the execution far exceeded anything I could hope for. His insight, technical ability, and highly positive attitude makes him the perfect partner to "re-introduce" me to the guitar (35+ year break in playing). Cons: initially opted for 1/2 hour lesson - too short. Pros: understands my goals, appreciates the musical genre that is important to me, great balance between teaching during the lesson and giving me things to work on on my own, very positive and encouraging attitude....and many more "pros". My suggestion is - if you are thinking of going with him give him a call - very easy to talk to and you will likely find out what I have found - Tyler is top notch!!

Some teachers teach you how to read black dots on a page. Others help you to make music beyond the printed page. Having studied with Mark for a number of years, I can attest to Mark's ability not only as a fabulous musician himself, but as a teacher who helps others go "off the page" to discover the heart of musical expression. I’m an Italian pianist with 15 years of teaching experience and I moved to the US last year because I followed my husband after his decision to accept a position at Boston University as Professor of Piano.
Before coming here I was running a Piano Academy that I founded in 2008, the Accademia Musicale Varesina: it was a great experience, and my students obtained in a few years hundreds of prizes. In these years I have gained extensive experience with children and young pianists.
Now that I’m here I would love to start teaching again; I miss sharing with young students my great passion for Music and Piano!
I will teach you how to memorize pieces and be ready for public performances in a very short time. Thanks to the Italian music education system children will be able to learn basic piano technique in no time as well as fundamental notions of solfeggio and harmony.
Professional piano lessons only!
