I teach with an emphasis on note reading as well as incorporating ear/chord playing. I love the repertoire of classical music and try to encourage students with even easy versions of the great masterwork pieces.

About Kathryn
Kathy believes that variety is the spice of not only life, but also music. Raised singing folk music with a musical family (think accordions, guitars and lots of vocal harmonies), she learned guitar and piano at an early age, but began singing even earlier. Her quest to give the world the bes

I have a special place in my heart for beginning piano students. I treat them more like a grandchild than as a strict classical instructor would. I have eliminated the pressure to learn wherever possible. From the first day, my students learn to read basic music. The lessons I create are customized based on my student's interests, strengths and ability to learn. Each child is unique. Whether they are gifted or special needs, each student gets my full attention. I get a great deal of joy from seeing the faces of my students light up when they accomplish a piece of music.
An intermediate level student holds a special challenge for me. Many times, they come to me having developed bad habits or missing important musical information that could make them a better pianist. I see my role as filling the gaps that they are missing and taking them further from there.
My students come and they stay with me - some for many years. If this is the type of experience you are looking for, then we ...

Are you or your child just longing to express yourself on a keyboard? So was I, for as long as I can remember.
WHEN WE WERE KIDS..... we all learned to speak before we learned to read and write. So why would you ever try to read music before you can play it?
We play AND record right away, and it's a lot of fun!
Listening back to your performance is a powerful tool.
So we record all the time. And we make it fun.
What people are saying:
“...an amazing instructor...inspiring mentor...compassionate.”
“...a lot of patience...”
“My son's love for music has come from Randy.”
“...positive attitude and friendly personality.”
“...wildly entertaining.”
“ ...will teach you in a way that will make you want to learn.”
“We look forward to our session every week!”
Most music lessons are just too full of un-intuitive systems. They teach reading before you can play a note. What a turn-off! We make sure to play first and we always have great fun. We still get to all the ear ...

I've taken piano lessons with Josh for over a year, and it's the most fun I've had learning an instrument. He's a great teacher, and can teach theory while still keeping the lessons fun and applicable. He's fun to be around, and I would highly recommend Josh as a teacher if you're looking to learn piano while having a good time!"

Forgo the sheet music and try your hand at improvising! Get started with this exercise from Tucker, GA teacher Linda L... Improvising, in music, is making up your own music on the spot. It is truly “playing with” music, in the more common sense of the word “play.” It’s fun, creative, and, well, playful. When it comes to piano improvisation, I tend to think of jazz, blues, and rock. But one can definitely improvise in any musical style. There is a lot you can learn wh …
