Sylvia is very good at taking the time to explain the reasons behind the why of doing certain things. Being an adult with no musical background what so ever she has really taken the time to teach me some basic fundamentals that are helping me build the solid foundation that I so very much want and need. Beyond the time we spend with one-on-one instructions she challenges me with exercises to practice on between our meetings. I explained to Sylvia what I was looking for and she has centered the training and instructions around that to ensure that my goals are being met. She is a pleasure to work with and learn from.

I use many of the method books. I believe there is not one method for everyone, as everyone learns differently.

About Michelle Sage

I have been playing the piano since I was 3 years of age. I was classically trained and I was a music major at Michigan State University. I still perform on a regular basis. Lessons will be relaxed and enjoyable for children and adults of any age!!!! It is never too late to learn! **

Michelle was awesome and so glad to have a great piano teacher!

Michelle does a great job with my 6 year old son. He has been getting weekly lessons for over a year now, and is making a lot of progress. He also enjoys the lessons enough to look forward to them. I was worried he would lose interest, but so far that is not the case. Michelle makes it fun and provides small rewards and lots of encouragement. I wanted to expose my son to the experience and enjoyment that comes with learning to play music, and Michelle has made that possible.
Justin
Michelle is very knowledgable and passionate about music. She has a way of explaining that makes confusing concepts easy to understand. Great teacher.

For younger students, I use the Albert Young Beginner lesson book and activity book. The lesson book teaches basic piano skills at a good pace for young beginners, and the activity book reiterates what the lesson book teaches, but in different fun ways. For older students, I use the Bastien series of Piano instruction for my piano lessons. I use the Lesson book for teaching basic playing skills, the Theory book for basic theory. In addition to this, I like to eventually include A Dozen A Day exercise books and Hannon finger exercises, scales, and arpeggios. I feel this method of teaching will lead to well-rounded, quick improvement!

About Kathleen

After playing the flute and piano on my own for seven years, I began my classical music education at the age of sixteen with international soloist Jun Kubo. Only a year and a half after I began my studies with Jun Kubo, I was accepted into The College of New Jersey for a Bachelor's program in Music

Music Lessons should be fun!
Finding the right Piano or Voice Instructor will shape the way a student feels about music. When we make music we share a vulnerable and very unique part of ourselves. As a teacher, I strive to encourage, inspire and create an atmosphere for learning that is uniquely different for each of my students. My teaching style focuses on important skills but also emphasizes self-exploration and perhaps discovering a passion for something new. Take a look at the lessons I provide and choose the right one for you.

"My children have taken piano with Mrs. Talley for 9 years. Mrs. Talley has proven to be a phenomenal teacher who helps her students strive to reach their highest standards. She gives them ample opportunities to perform at recitals, guild and sonata competitions, and multiple other outlets which has helped with confidence building. When Covid halted everything else, Mrs. Talley didn’t skip a beat and followed through with video phone call lessons. There was a year when Mrs. Talley moved away and we had the experience of 2 other piano teachers during her absence. It is hard to find a teacher as dedicated and talented as she."

"I came to Andrew as an intermediate-to-advanced level pianist looking to learn jazz piano. Andrew does a great job pacing his lessons to push new ideas and techniques without being overwhelming. He will also relate the techniques he teaches to how he plays in real life, which is extremely helpful. Andrew is very easy to get along with and is also very responsive between lessons. I'd recommend him for any skill level"

How to Safely Store or Move a Piano | Caring For Your Piano

When you own a piano, moving takes a bit more planning. Should you hire a professional, or do it yourself? Here, Helendale, CA teacher Sylvia S. shares what to keep in mind to make sure your instrument stays safe and sound...   Many years ago, when my family relocated, the expertise for moving our household grand piano was delegated to professional furniture movers. Three piano legs and the pedals console were removed and wrapped in blankets. The moving parts for the body, including …
