Perhaps my most popular lesson, I teach piano to all ages and all levels. I am particularly skilled in the area of accelerating the beginner/early intermediate pianist into a high level of musicianship. I customize my piano instruction to each individual student, so that each can develop a plan to achieve personal growth and success through musicianship.

About Victor
I received my Bachelor of Music Degree in Organ Performance from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in June of 2010, studying under Dr. Roberta Gary. I have completed all the coursework for the Master of Music Degree in Organ Performance. I will receive the degree in late 2014 or early 2015 after performing one more solo recital.

I began playing the piano at the age of 5, later moving to the organ at 9. I have held a church job since then, working in multiple different denominations and settings. I have a strong background of piano, accompanying, theory, sacred liturgy, and musical performance. I enjoy studying and listening to many genres of music as well as performing them. I am very interested in historically informed performance and understanding different techniques as they are related to the composition style of
different time periods.

I enjoy working with students of all ages. Regardless of your ability, age, or experience, I will work with you. We can work out a plan for lesson times, intensity of practice and work, and tailor the lesson to the right pace for you.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons tend to be tailored to the needs of individual students. I am not as much a fan of a strict curriculum that I use on each student. For beginners, one can expect to be given method books to get them moving in the right direction. As one advances, we eventually move on to repertoire. I take an approach to lessons that emphasizes total body awareness and high level mental awareness. The most important thing anyone can learn in music is that it isn't just about the right notes; it isn't about the right rhythm. It is about the complete musicianship and the complete awareness needed to truly understand and perform a work of music. In order to make this approach work, my strictness as a teacher varies depending on the level of devotion the student is willing to put forth. After six months with me as a teacher, expect to notice changes in the way you see music and comprehend your technique at the keyboard.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to purchase their own music. For beginners with method books, I have these available to the students to purchase from me.

*** Specialties ***
I am very highly trained in performance practices of the Baroque era, especially on the organ. I am also very specialized in body movement and efficient keyboard technique. I also have a lot of experience in the Romantic repertoire of the piano. Lastly, I am also well trained as an accompanist on both the organ and the piano.

I have enjoyed working with Victor. He is very knowledgeable about the music in particular the Baroque period. He brings a very good perspective that has enriched my understanding of early music. I can say clearly that one leaves sessions with a desire to learn more and with an understanding of music as serious branch of human study rather than something that is simply fun (in the sense of being mundane amusement).

Victor is an amazing teacher and we have loved working with him for many years now. He taught all 3 of my boys at all different levels and they all progressed very well in piano. He has also served as accompanist for my son who plays the trumpet. I highly recommend Victor as an amazing teacher for all levels who truly wants to help the kids learn.

Victor is gifted in teaching. I feel that playing the piano and teaching the piano are two separate gifts. Victor is gifted with both abilities. If you are hesitating because your not sure whom you would like to choose, choose Victor you will not be sorry.

The object is to learn to play the piano with total control and a beautiful sound.

About Leni
BA in Music, composition and conducting from Hunter College (City University of New York)
Diploma from the Conservatoire de Fontainebleau, France
Studied with Louise Talma, Jacques Louis Monod, Nadia Boulanger

Lessons are about learning to make music, not endless scales and arpeggios which so often lead to pain and injury. Tone production, sight reading, and age appropriate theory and interpretation are strong elements from the beginning.

An overwhelming percentage of young, enthusiastic and talented children are discouraged early and give up the piano because they do not make rapid progress and therefore do not enjoy their lessons. Music is one of life's great joys. It should be fun. For the intermediate, and even the advanced, student, it is critical that much more attention be paid to the musicality of the playing and the u
nderstanding of the music. This leads to more beautiful playing and greater enjoyment.

Leni is an incredible instructor. He is extremely knowledgeable and yet never comes across as condescending or arragant.
He is helpful and encouraging and makes learning to play fun.
The music that he selects is challenging without being overwhelming and he is fine with moving on to something else if you just plain don't like a piece.
He is a very popular instructor and I feel fortunate that I have found a space in his schedule !

I can honestly say that Leni is one of the most professional and intelligent music instructors I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I have a background in music (low brass) from the 6th grade all the way through college. While I no longer play any brass instruments, I am currently taking drum lessons, and felt that now would also be the best time to try my hand (no pun intended) at piano. I am very happy with the lessons that Leni gave, however, I eventually came to the realization that the piano would be too much of a time constraint for me. I was not 100% committed to the piano due to working an 8-5 job every day, as well as taking the drum lessons I was already taking prior to starting piano. Also, it didn't help that I did not have a piano to practice with. With that being said, if I ever find myself with the time/capability to commit myself to the piano the way I wanted to, then I will be contacting Leni for more lessons. There are many piano teachers out there, but if you want to learn the CORRECT way so that you will not hurt your hands/fingers, then Leni is the absolute best choice. Thanks for everything Leni!

I obtained my piano proficiency through my performance degree at the Cole Conservatory, and I have been teaching piano ever since! I have four years of piano teaching experience, and my students are still with me!

About Michelle
Hello, students and parents!!!

My name is Michelle, and I'm an "older student" at the internationally renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston. For years I was a professional, full-time cellist and music teacher in Southern California.

I have had the opportunity to do so many cool things with music over the years! I get to travel to other states, play in beautiful places like Carnegie Hall, give lectures at music schools, play in music videos with famous rock bands, even record for video games like League of Legends, and cues in prime time television! Wow, how lucky am I? It all seems surreal. How did I get to do all of those cool things?

It's because I had so many awesome, loving, caring mentors who were there for me all of those times I got down on myself and felt like giving up. Those moments on the road to fulfillment ar
e huge stepping stones, moments I will never forget and always have to lean on when I am filled with doubt. The power of an encouraging word of a mentor is priceless, and I believe the blessings I have are a testament to the presence of compassionate mentors in my life.

I've been teaching music for almost ten years, reaching hundreds of brilliant kids since I started teaching. I've always tried to be for my students like those mentors who were there for me.

My teaching philosophy is centered around fostering a connection between music and happiness. The necessarily includes loads of encouragement, fun, the occasional happy dance, discovering musical intuition (basic improvisation and listening), a holistic knowledge of music (basic theory and history), anxiety management, and life-long lessons about the value of concentration and hard work. I believe in getting to know my students personally, and usually take some time out of every lesson to catch up on my students' lives. This may seem like a waste of time, but in fact is extremely important for the student to feel as though they belong in my studio and, in a broader sense, the world of music.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read about my life and my teaching. Please ask any questions! I respond quickly and will get back to you asap!

Best,
Michelle

My 9-year-old son has been taking cello lessons from Michelle for the past 1.5 months or so. I find her to be an excellent teacher. Michelle shows a genuine interest in my son, asking him about how he's doing and has the excellent ability to break down complex musical concepts into small, teachable increments. Not all teachers can do this and Michelle does it very well! She is encouraging and never demeaning, but is careful to point out weaknesses and models how to improve. She keeps the lesson going and packs much into 30 minutes. Her rewards program for younger students is highly motivating for my son! I have a BA in Music myself, and would highly recommend Michelle!

Michelle is a great teacher. I just feel I can make progress and really can learn from her class. Even though it is just my second class with her, but i love to have her classes. I can feel that every class she has some plan and know what kind of information should be covered by the class. Even though I am adult beginner, she treats me seriously to really teach me something. And every small thing, she will explain to me and make sure i can understand. It is very important because even though i am an adult, i am still the beginner and know nothing about cello. i love her class a lot and think i can really keep learning with her. BTW, her class is also very interesting and i can feel that she is a very experienced cello teacher.

Can you imagine being able to play the piano, even complex and virtuosic music, with ease and effortless musicality? Believe it or not, it is possible!

Playing the piano with good technique and understanding can produce the most amazing music without straining, pain, difficulty or struggling while playing; and yes, you can do it too! This is what I teach my students so they are able to enjoy their playing and not feel like they're not making progress or that they're just going through the motions. There is a way to play the piano that makes it efficient and enjoyable, and I incorporate these ideas directly into the pieces the student wants to work on. I work with classical and contemporary piano music as well as theory, composition and piano technique, all of which help make piano playing as excellent as it can be! Jeff does a great job of breaking things down to an understandable level while still keeping sight of the big picture - saying something important during a solo, and saying it in a way that keeps the audience interested. Lesson materials are always challenging enough to stay busy while never being too overwhelming. Jeff is a talented musician and teacher who knows what makes jazz, jazz. Anyone who is willing to put the work in and dedicate themselves will experience a lot of growth and learning with him.
