I studied Voice Performance at the University of Denver, earning my Bachelors of Music in 2011. I've been teaching voice, piano, composition, song writing, and music theory for 8 years to students of all ages. Teaching is one of my greatest joys as a professional musician, and I hope to share that joy with you!
I focus on three principles in every lesson I teach: be aware, be creative, and be efficient. As awareness increases, seemingly contradictory ideas become complimentary; as creativity develops, we laugh and smile on the journey towards musical fluency; when we think and practice efficiently, we realize we're capable of far more than we thought.
I sang in worship services every Sunday as a soloist, with the adult choir, and with small vocal ensembles and a 3-piece band. I arranged sheet music for services, rehearsed and managed volunteer musicians, occasionally conducted the choir, and played piano.+ Read More
With the help of a theatrical teaching partner, I worked with 3rd through 7th grade students to adapt a short story into a musical and then perform the show for the student body. I helped the students learn to sing together, compose melodies and lyrics, and accompanied the final performance from the piano. Some favorite shows: Alice in Wonderland, Night of the Living Fears, and All Summer in a Day (a marvelous Ray Bradbury story about humans living on Venus).+ Read More
I led a children's choir made up of Kindergarten through 2nd graders. I taught foundational vocal technique, matching pitch, singing with solfa, rhythmic fundamentals, and we learned music to sing in worship services.
I sang in the 60 person chancel choir and in the professional quartet. Responsibilities included leading sectionals for the basses and leading worship through chant and cantoring. I also composed for the quartet.
I taught a 10 person choir 4 days/week. We worked on vocal technique and I arranged pop songs for us to perform. I accompanied the class on piano, as well. At Venture Prep, I also taught a once/week elective class on composition.
Tony has been my kids' piano teacher for three years now, and we have nothing but great things to say. When he started with us my daughter was almost 5, and he's taught her for 3 years, and has taught my younger son (now age 6.5) for about 2+ years.
First off, my kids LOVE Tony. They are excited for their lessons every week and really enjoy their time with him. They really enjoy playing piano and have made really great progress with Tony as their teacher. Tony is great at teaching them the fundamentals while also working with their specific interests to help motivate them and keep things really fun (my son wanted to learn an Imagine Dragons song and Tony didn't miss a beat!) He's fun, passionate, great at working with different personalities and ages, and overall a fantastic teacher. Highly highly recommend!
He is very knowledgeable and has a nice personality. I am really enjoying the lessons. I have recommended him to many others.
Tony is great! He's very patient and makes his students feel very relaxed so they can focus on there singing. I would advise taking the 45 to 1 hour lessons. 30 mins. is not enough.
Tony has been fantastic to work with! He's flexible in style and adjusts his approach to teaching as we go along, based on what works well for me. 2 lessons in and I've learned a ton already!
Please read my previous review...I just forgot to select 5 stars!
In a nutshell: Tony is a super great instructor. Tony has been my instructor for quite some time & I have experienced awesome breakthroughs and improvements in my voice.
I have been under the tutelage of Tony D. and have experienced remarkable breakthroughs in my voice. He is a very positive, upbeat, talented professional. Tony is a great vocalist, opera singer, songwriter, pianist and vocal teacher.
What is most impressive about Tony's teaching style is that he doesn't waste your time; he is a great listener and will quickly pin-point issues in one's vocal technique and provide "vocal remedies" that literally yield immediate results!
He covers a lot of ground in a 1 hour session, which I appreciate.
Tony is also very well-rounded musically, which is great because I enjoy many genres of music and so we cover the gamut such as opera, Italian arias, rock, soft ballads, R&B, etc. So, whatever song suits your fancy, Tony will be able to teach you how to successfully sing it.
I highly recommend that you sign up your next piano/voice, etc. lesson with Tony D.
You will not be disappointed!!
