I've been teaching piano for over 11+ years. My teaching style is we go at the pace you want to go. I let the student tell me what their goals are, and we work around it.

My philosophy: everyone is their own person. No one is built the same!

About Kate
I graduated from UTSA in the Fall of 2008, with a Bachelor of Music with a Vocal and Piano Emphasis. I have been teaching private piano and voice for 11+ years. I am fun, energetic, and patient. It brings me such joy to be able to teach children something I am so passionate about!

*** Lesson Details ***
Students need to practice 15 minutes a day. They are required to complete everything that is assigned to them that week, and be prepared for their lessons for the following week. A beginner usually in 3-6 months should be familiar with reading the basic treble and bass clef staff, be familiar with dynamic markings, beginning to understand basic music theory, tempo and minimal sight reading. Voice students study basic vocal technique, and learning to sing properly.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I usually provide the books after the paren
ts have paid for them. They should have their own instrument to work with.

*** Specialties ***
I use the Alfred method for piano.

Within minutes, I could tell that she was a very haopy person and that I would have no problem talking with her. She also challenged me to sing outside my range. I felt unsure but she encouraged me and I did okay. I can't wait for my next lesson.

I am a beginner that was stuck with not knowing what to do with the knowledge I had from online sources, ie chords, scales and phrasing. Everything I did sounded the same because of my strumming patterns were all the same. Aimee got right to work in just the right area to help me hear new sounds by different strumming patterns. I am very pleased with Aimee's teaching style and environment. Looking forward to second lesson.

My piano lessons for beginners start off with orientating yourself properly with the keyboard. The C position is the most common position for playing simple melodies, and is the groundwork for any new piano beginner. In your first piano lesson, you will learn the beginners version of Beethoven's classic, "Ode to Joy", based on the C position.
Learn the names of keys and the basics of musical notation in this piano lesson. Reading sheet music is the foundation to understanding the piano. There are only 7 keys that you need to know and in this piano lesson for beginners you will be introduced to them all at a smooth pace. Practice in several lessons keys from C to G and G to F for the right hand, as well as reading music properly with your right hand. Seven interactive exercises are geared for piano beginners to train your music reading skills.

I have worked with pianists preparing for concerts, competitions, and auditions as well as with beginners of all ages!!! I believe in music as a way to heal and learning music is a self-investment. We establish goals and achieve them together! I also believe in removing personal blocks and am trained in Reiki. I like to encourage a holistic approach to learning. I create a warm, supportive atmosphere and deeply care for all of my students!

Hi, this is Xinni Liu. I have been a student and advisee of Parvati for four years. I have learned a list of great repertoire from her. She is not only an enthusiastic, sincere and caring teacher but more like a close friend of mine. During the lesson, she focuses primarily on feeling and tone, which I found very helpful to me. Also, she attaches importance to let us explore what is unique about our own playing. She makes sure we understand her points and reflects back consistently throughout the lesson, too. I always get inspired and moved by her performance as well, because she is an outstanding performer. I am so happy that I got to meet her and study with her. I am very thankful to be her student.

Parvati is a very professional, patient, careful, talented musician. I stuied with her for three years in Idyllwild Arts Academy. And I believe I grow up a lot under her guidance. Also, she is a nice person who can teach you not only music and more inside of music! I really enjoy the experience of studing with her. I am sure she can definitely guide you into higher levels of music! Don’t be hesitate to study with her, I promise you will never regret!

* Finally, a comprehensive instrumental course for students of all ages and experience levels that includes:

- Information on brands, supplies, and guidance with professional organizations

- Weekly lessons to develop and improve skills with proper finger placement, dexterity, warm-up repertoire, dynamics, rhythmic meters, and more!

- Music theory (includes music history topics) with emphasis on technology and composition

- Maintenance and repair tips

- Advanced techniques: Pedal techniques, ornamentation, improvising, world music styles, etc.

- Chamber music (accompaniment) to prepare for public performances

About Neil
I am a music educator of 13 years: I have taught both middle school band and choir to at-risk youth, as well as elementary music at a private Christian academy. My principal instrument is the saxophone (which I began playing in 1990), and I play many other instruments. As for my formal education: I received the Bachelor of Music Education degree in 2005 from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey; and the Master of Music Education degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA, 2010).

*** Lesson Details ***
My goal is to create life-long musicians...
I focus on the needs and interests of my students, thereby representing all musical genres and including all cultures.
My lessons are structured into activities that incorporate various aspects of music appreciation:
Music theory, music history, music technology, perfor
mance practice, etc. (making such lessons comprehensive)

*** Studio Equipment ***
Everyone needs their own instrument. In my studio, I have to keyboards side-by-side so that the student can both see and hear what I am teaching without ever swapping seats. As for percussion, my practice pad station serves for warm-up rudiments, whereas I have 2 drum-sets facing each other so that again, students can both see & hear what I am doing without needing to spend lesson time switching seats. For all other instruments, I recommend buying new for any brand that is not among the top 3 brands for that instrument...this ensures a working instrument in which to learn from and practice on without necessarily spending top dollar.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I always bring my instrument, metronome, tuner, music stand and stand for my instrument, including lesson materials and supplies.

*** Specialties ***
All genres, all styles & all cultures! I teach students of all ages--mostly at my home studio, but I also travel to students' homes, churches, and, as an alternative during the Summer only, I am willing to meet with students in the Practice Rooms in the Fine Arts Building at UTSA.

Our 10 yr old son's piano lessons with Nicolette have been great. She is very patient, supportive, and positive in her teaching style. My son is progressing well since starting his lessons. Nicolette is always very punctual and gets right down to business. The 45 minute lessons are fully utilized and all the activities are relevant and value-added...no idle time at all. I'm a NYC based actor/musician currently living in Austin, TX, with over 20 years of playing experience. I specialize in jazz piano and rockabilly styles, and have trained with two Grammy winning pianists, Hank Hehmsoth, and "Asleep at the Wheel's" pianist (and Austin Legend) Floyd Domino. I also have a minor in Jazz Studies from Texas State University.

My most recent work was on the Broadway tour "Million Dollar Quartet" which played in over 80 cities in the United States, where I played rock and roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis.

I like to focus on the needs of each individual student (rather than any one single method), and I've found that theory building drills applied directly to a song or goal have had stellar results in the past. When an individual can have fun while gaining a sense of accomplishment, it creates a better environment for memorization, and the willingness to continue.

Let me show you what I know!

(videos below)

About Sean
I'm a NYC based actor currently living in Atlanta, Georgia, with a huge case of ADD, that resulted in a background in musical theatre, jazz piano, juggling, and many sports. Aside from acting and dance, I was a varsity tennis player, and competed at the national level for two sports, National Collegiate Table Tennis (NCTTA 2010), and on the U21 National Kayak Polo Team (based in Austin, Texas). I've also been a juggler for the past 15 years (5 club cascade and club passing), and jazz pianist (1 year training with Grammy Winner Hank Hehmsoth, and (in an freak chance meeting, 6 months with 2 time Grammy Winner Floyd Domino). I love all things tap dance and Golden Age Musical Theatre, and have many influences including Sammy Davis Jr, Gene Kelly, and Fred Astaire.
