Regarding my methods of instructing piano students, I use the Middle
C method for players regardless of playing level. Those who are more
advanced use triads as well. My overall goal as a teacher is to work
with my students and give them the skills that are necessary to play
music that they enjoy. Instructional materials include either Faber,
Bastien, and/or Alfred Publications. A writing tablet compliments
presented lesson material too.
My instruction correlates with the age, the musical background, and
the public/private school music curriculum of the student. Each
lesson is a special musical vignette in the sense that it is a unique
learning time for the student. It is important for the student to be
motivated by the material that they are given and to have a full
understanding of the concept(s) that were taught in the lesson. Above
all other reasons, it is most important for the student to enjoy
their piano lessons and want to come back the next week. ...

About Michael
Born and raised in New Jersey, I have been involved with music for many years. The instruments that I play include Trumpet, French Horn, Handbells, Organ, Voice, and Piano. I received my formal education at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA, which is where I earned a B.A. degree with Honors in Music. In order to obtain my Honors, I chose to develop elementary lessons on Chinese folk music. In my Junior year of college, I performed a dual media recital in both Voice and Piano, and for my Senior year recital, I focused on giving a Vocal performance. These recitals demonstrated the musical talent and techniques that I had developed throughout my experience at college. In addition to my musical experiences in college, I have also learned about various pedagogical approaches through both my vocal studies as well as my studies on the keyb
oard. There is always more than one approach to teaching musical concepts! As a musician, I have performed in both the Bethlehem/Allentown area and the central New Jersery area. In addition, I have sung as a member of the Princeton Pro Musica and sat as a member on the executive board of the Princeton Girlchoir. These experiences have enhanced my professional insight as a musical instructor today. At present, I am a teacher in the classroom, an organist at a local Presbyterian church, and a private piano instructor. Overall, I thoroughly enjoy seeing my students grow and develop as musicians.

Michael is a great teacher. He focuses on understanding of concepts. For more fluent play we always need to practice a lot, but if we do not understand the concepts behind musical notation, we do not even know where to begin. He is also very encouraging and guides us out of mistakes in a way that the logic sticks. Highly recommended - you will enjoy learning with him

Lessons with Mike Mraz was a Christmas present from my son, Andrew. I enjoy singing, yet have never had occasion to study music or to take private lessons. Mike helped me clarify my goals: breath control, vocal mechanics, reading music and having fun. He graciously sent me some primer materials and located sheet music for several of my favorite Broadway show tunes. Our five 45-minute sessions together were both instructive and enjoyable. As I approach age 70, I can check "work with a voice coach" on my "Bucket List." Kudos for Mike!

I can start beginners and get them reading notes, with adults and more experienced musicians I teach theory and how to comp chords so you can learn to play songs you like hopefully sing them too!

About Scott
Hi! I'm Scott. I perform with a one-man band setup I created which utilizes a modified guitar and home-made foot pedals to control a drum set, while I sing on top of it all. I have a recording studio at home, and have performed with bands as a singer, guitarist, saxophonist, bassist, percussionist, and as a sound engineer. I've written, performed and recorded my own album which made it to the 2nd round of the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, and was a voting member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Grammy Committee and NARAS (National Association or the Recording Arts and Sciences.) I started piano lessons from age 5 and just kept picking up more instruments and gear as I got older and never stopped learning or enjoying it!

Working with people writing songs is something I enjoy thoroughly; I can help you write and record your own songs. A computer and internet access are preferred to take full advantage of the technology for learning and producing music.

Knowledgeable in Instrument repair, set-up, and maintenance, I can help you fix it, and how to spot a good instrument.

I work with Bastien method books for Children and adults. They work great. I also use Alfred method books for the young beginner and beginner adult. I also like to make it is for everyone have a good time while learning. It should not be a struggle but a great learning process.

About Melody
First I want to thank you for looking at my profile.
You can read about me below.
If you have any questions please email me through Take Lessons.

About me:

Even though it says my travel is 10 miles max I do make exceptions.

I started music at age 5. My parents were both professional musicians. My father was a professional jazz piano player and my mother a classical guitarist. So it is in the blood. I play a few instruments but my favorite guitar and piano. I went to Nassau Community College for Drama/Music.
I toured in theater groups and also was in a few bands while living in NY. I could not make up my mind so I did both. I love both So. Florida here I come in 1991. Since I was new to the area I starting performing regular basis and became well known in the music community.I also went on a song writing spree. I was also able to do
dinner theater in between the music. I met some people, music teachers from going to the open mics. They encouraged me to go out and start teaching and do what I was supposed to do. How it happened ? I placed one small ad, got a call and from there it grew into over 80 students.I just was referred to everyone it was a chain reaction.
In between teaching I was also in a duo and made time for the touring, local gigs, etc....released 3 CD's.
I was very busy that I decided to open up my own music school to handle the over flow of students. I had my business for 9 years.
I produced a lot of talent from there.songwriters with published songs, singers with contracts, bands the guitarist in the now defunct band Hey Monday with Cassidy Pope. Students that were in American Idol- featuring Emily Booke 2 years in a row top twenty then top ten..
America's Got Talent featuring Amy Profaci, Cassidy Pope.
Played for the Boss in RPB with Odd Man Out, Teen Punk Band since disbanded. Had them out and playing gigs at age 14 the youngest oldest 16 at CBGB's. In NYC. They were on the Regis and Kelly show. Students that started with me at age 5 and stayed for years. A lot are off to college or done with school grown up sort of. When they bump into me and say hey Ms. Mel I'll never forget you teaching me music lessons or do you remember that or I loved that band class you did. You changed my whole life.
I really appreciate it and I did make a difference in their lives.
I also write for TV and Film and have over 30 professionally published songs. Songs playing on commercials, TV and overseas in England. They seem to love it over there a lot of fan mail.

Ok this is as follows.
*** Lesson Details ***
Cancellations : 24 hour notice. Make up lessons are at my discretion.
61 key keyboard are ok for piano lessons.
You must have a piano for vocal lessons if I come to your home. You must have a guitar 🎸 for guitar lessons. I do not supply any instruments or lesson books. You are required to contact me once booked and find out what you will need.

How long will it take to learn depends on YOU!!!!

Practice is the answer not a question. You must be prepared to work to do the work. If you do not understand it we will do it until you get it.
My Adult students this goes for you too.
It is important that you practice. So I recommend cutting down on video games and TV.
I suggest no TV or Video games especially before the lessons are about to start. Very distracting for the kids.
I expect you to be practiced and ready to go when I get there. If you want to be a rock star that's what it takes, discipline.
Its great when a parent can sit in while I'm teaching your child. Remember I am teaching you as well.
You will be helping your child practice during the week until the next lesson.
For the guitar there will be complaints of hurting finger tips.
I cannot do anything about that it comes with guitar playing.
For the like piano, the fingers will not hurt.

After 3 to 6 months for the older student I expect all 6 strings to be complete and chords and strumming on guitar and learning songs of your choice.
Piano - Sight Reading and being able to play with 2 hands in the key of "C" with ease.
This will only happen with practice, And learning songs of your choice if you choose to.

Small ones as much time as they need depends upon how long it takes for them to learn it and how much time mom can help practice.

*** Studio Equipment **
Right up Piano,
Small 15 Watt Amp

**Supplies:
I do not supply instruments for any student. Parents you are
expected to purchase a 61 key keyboard of your choice and finances.Same goes for guitar. We will figure out the size you or your child needs. You must purchase your own books. I use Bastiens Primer A red book, Bastiens A Pink Book, along with these books they also have a theory book , performance book and technic book. Bk 1,2,3 also have a series of book 📚 to work with.

Guitar 🎸 I like to use Fast Track Bk 1 w/o CD. Then again they are becoming obsolete

*** Specialties ***
Song writing/Vocals

Beginner classical/intermediate guitar
Folk style guitar
Blues beginner/intermediate
Theory beginner/intermediate/advanced note reading

Students of all skill levels are welcome. I tailor the lesson type to the student rather than use a cookie-cutter approach.

About Nicholas
I am a second generation music teacher for piano and violin. I have been teaching for over 20 years as well as playing both instruments for about 30 years. I have an Associates in Music. Making lessons both fun and educational is what make my students successful in their instruments. My lessons are custom made to how the student learns, not cookie-cut. We also do bi-annual recitals in December and April to showcase the students' accomplishments.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are both fun and educational at the same time. I compromise with my students by having us each pick a piece to play on top of the usual learning pieces. My students play anything from Katy Perry to 80s music and rock ballads and in between. I use John Thompson and Fingerpower as well as a notespeller for piano and String Essentials for violin. Many of
my students can play with both hands after six months. We do recitals each year to showcase the past year's achievements in their pieces.

*** Travel Equipment ***
For either instrument I pick up all books and supplies ahead of the lesson. I have my own violin and music stand that I use to assist in teaching.

From the moment I had my phone interview with Paul, I knew he was the right instructor for my son. We met for a trial lesson and sure enough he was exactly what we were looking for. My 12 yr. old has just excelerated in his music reading skills that I could not teach him on my own having started him on the keyboard myself since he was seven but was not successful. Paul is not afraid to stretch him and communicate to him in a way that he pleasantly receives along with weaving music history teaching continuously throughout the lesson. Right out of the gate his technique was addressed and the foundation was set up front and my son has an obvious, beautiful, step above, touch. Very grateful!

I teach students of all ages, starting at age 5, using several teaching methods, primarily Alfred's. Lessons are tailored to the individual. I like to talk to a student before deciding what lesson book to use, and find out their likes/dislikes. I use a teaching course, but supplement with books that the student enjoys.

About Corrin
I primarily use Alfred's Teaching Method. If a student comes to me from another teacher, I will continue to use what they are familiar with. My youngest student's enjoy the Little Mozart series. I use the Prep Course for elementary students, Premier or Basic course with late elementary learners, Late Beginner course with teenagers & adults. This is a guideline. It's always best to meet the students/parents to see what works best for them. Piano lessons are not a cookie cutter method. I tailor them for each individual's learning type & music preference.

I believe music to be one of the most enjoyable, even spiritual, things we can do. It is a great thing for ourselves and also for those around us. I seek to make piano lessons fun, inspiring, motivating. I have over 11 years of experience helping both children and adults ages 6 through 84 in multiple areas of piano, including classical, pop, rock, and piano improvisation. Prior to takelessons.com, I have 5 years of experience teaching students online. As for adults, I have helped everyone from total beginners in theirs 70s or 80s to working adults who haven't taken lessons since they were kids. My ideal student is motivated with a true desire to learn piano, and a willingness to learn the habit of daily practice in order to make consistent progress.

About Chris
I have been teaching piano for 11 years. Since 2012, I have run "Piano Lessons in Sacramento," my personal piano studio in Northern California. My studio has been a finalist two years running in a local "best of" contest for local businesses called the Sacramento A-List. I have also been featured on a local morning show called "Good Day Sacramento," broadcast through the CW network. I specialize in personalized attention with the student, as I always aim to get to know the student's particular music desires, strengths, and weaknesses, and help them to grow not only as musicians, but as people. I subscribe to the philosophy that learning is 80% psychology, and 20% actual skills. Therefore, I am big on helping students have the mindset to succeed at their musical goals while guiding them to to gain the knowledge to do so. I find this
approach works very well with adults, who often need the guidance of someone who believes in them. I also aim to help students experience the joy of learning. I believe that with true desire and dedication, any student will surprise themselves by how much they learn.

More generally about my musical background: I am a graduate of UC Berkeley with honors with a BA in Music, and I am a life-long musician, songwriter, and composer. I have performance experience in nearly every area of music, including pop, rock, musical theater, classical, and hip hop, and have performed for or with clients as diverse as retirement homes, high schools, colleges, and community centers throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento.
