I encourage my students to pursue all types of music. I like to use “method books” to help with reading and music theory no matter which instrument they choose. I always use supplemental materials that follow the student’s interests and level. I often use technology in lessons to motivate and help students grow. For example, I use many apps for theory, note reading, and rhythm training.

A cancellation 24hrs in advance is always appreciated.

Matt taught me for a 3 month period and helped me drastically with learning how to improvise guitar solos. I can't thank Matt enough for his help in helping me with a rather unorthodox time to start getting lessons. Each week he told me to bring 3 songs with a guitar solo I would like to learn in different genres and each week we broke down the solos for me to practice and gather their techniques. Thank you so much Matt!

Piano lessons are structured with a focus on what the student needs. We begin with a foundation of scales, note reading, and ear training, to give the student the versatility to go in any musical direction they like, and make them a well rounded musician. The book I usually begin in for piano is "Adventures in piano".

About Joshua
Joshua has been a musician for over seventeen years and has been teaching for nine. He is an award winning composer, critical thinker, and an straight-forward teacher. Joshua has a high standards for his students and himself. Joshua has studied Suzuki method under Dr. Paula Bird for four years and has taught over 100 students. He performed his official Suzuki training under Dr. Laurie Scott. Joshua also taught while studying; at the Texas State String Project under the direction of Dr. Ames Asbell and Dr. Karla Hamelin, and as counselor at Texas State String Camp.

Joshua is an award winning composer and has crafted hundreds of songs, ranging in style from classical symphony to electronic dance. He has also arranged hundreds of works for violin and piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a relaxed person with a strict teaching style. I ha
ve two critical expectations for my students.

1: I expect my students to practice everyday, with time depending on age. (10 minutes a day for 5 year old's, 20 minutes for 10 year old's, etc.) No exceptions. Lessons are a place for me to teach you, not a place to watch you practice.

2: I expect parents to participate in every lesson. You are the teacher six days a week, I only get to teach them on one.

If everyone understands my expectations, students will grow and learn quickly, and have a great time doing it!

I develop a lesson plan depending on each students strengths, weaknesses, talents, and personality. No one student is identical to the next, so none will be taught the same, but everyone will follow a similar pattern.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano lessons with full keyboard. Stands, couches, and a small library of sheet music.

*** Specialties ***
Suzuki style instruction for violin technique. For songwriting and performance I focus on the analysis of music to find a middle ground of emotional expression and theory. Once that middle ground is found we explore what music means to the student, and how they can use it as a tool of expression.

I've been playing the violin self-taught for about two years because my first experience with a violin teacher went horribly. So after two years I figured I'd try again.
I was on Reverb Lessons for 6 months, and it was a complete nightmare. The most highly rated teacher they provided didn't seem like he was teaching me anything at all. Most of our lesson were music theory, which was helpful, but I would only play the violin the last 5 mins of the two hour lessons. He kept telling me, "i didn't have it in me to be a violinist" and he told me to play piano instead. Well it turned out he didn't even play the violin!
Completely despondent, I was getting angry that I
might not progress in the violin (which I was madly in love with) but dispite my bitterness I decided to try to find a teacher again.

I've only had three lesson with Josh and I can't articulate how much better I've gotten. He's calm and collective, and gives me exactly the advice I need in order to get better. He's an attentive listener, and responds accordingly. I enjoy his lessons; they are the perfect balance of stern and nurturing. I'm excited to see how I progress as the lessons continue, and I'm thankful that I FINALLY found a good violin instructor

Here are the core things that I focus on in Piano lessons.

Alignment is the basis a great technique. Each person is different, and knowing how to help them release unwanted tension is critical.
Building hand coordination is essential to playing piano. A variety of agility and strengthening exercises will help you gain greater control and comfort in playing.

Articulation and phrasing is how pianists convey emotion. By Understanding the different colors available, a performer can create a dynamic and moving experience.

Selecting songs for your skill level and interest is important. Playing music you love will make your experience more enjoyable

About Rachelle
I love sharing the knowledge and techniques I've learned through years of training and performing. Lessons are so much more than just learning the notes. Everyone has a unique perspective and way to express their feelings through music. I help my students embrace their artistry while learning. I have extensive training in music and vocal pedagogy that gives me the ability to teach both voice and piano. I hold a Masters in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the University of North Texas.

Whether you want to have more confidence singing karaoke or play Beethoven. I can help you reach those goals. We will build a repertoire that is appropriate for your age and ability. Over time you will gain greater control, endurance, and confidence.

VOICE LESSONS
*The vocal folds are the core of the sound, and must be given the utmost care a
nd consideration. Proper hydration is essential. They are also muscles that need strengthening exercises and time for them to change. This will improve your vocal endurance and range. As a highly trained voice teacher, I can hear if the vocal folds are behaving in a healthy and efficient manner. It is essential that your teacher understand how to care for these delicate components of the human voice.

* Vocal resonance is how opera singers are heard without amplification. It can be enhanced through awareness and coordination of the various portions of the vocal tract. Using this natural resonance will make singing in any style more comfortable.

*The most important part of the singing is emotion. Anyone can sing words, but if you don't know what they mean or how to express them they become nothing but white noise.

*Selecting the perfect songs for your age, voice type, skill level, and interest is really important. I will help guide you in finding the right choices for you.

Get ready for a truly rich and rewarding experience. Maria studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Viktor Merzhanov. She is a 4th-generation pupil of Franz Liszt and 6th-generation of Beethoven. She was one of the fortunate few (Garrick Ohlsson among them) to study with Roberto Eyzaguirre, who was a student and friend of Claudio Arrau, one of the 20th-century's greatest pianists. Arrau studied with Martin Krause, who was one of Franz Liszt's final pupils. Liszt was taught by Carl Czerny. And Beethoven was Czerny's teacher. Through this great lineage, learn an incredible technique that will enable you to play the music of your dreams!

About Maria
Maria was born in Moscow, Russia. Her mother was a piano teacher and started Maria playing at 4. She studied at the legendary Moscow Conservatory with Victor Merzhanov. In the US, she won the Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Young Artist Competition and debuted with the Symphony performing Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto. She earned her Bachelor's of Music at the University of Houston.

For her Master's, she studied organ at Rice University with the world-famous teacher Clyde Holloway. She won many national competitions, including Gruenstein Memorial Organ Competition in Chicago and San Antonio Pipe Organ Competition.

The Russian School of Playing has produced some of the world's greatest pianists. This method is fun and lays down the foundation for a relaxed way of playing, which gives confidence and technical security, while enabling one
to produce beautiful "singing" tone on the piano. This helps students of all ages to take their piano-playing to new heights.

Having a wonderful time learning with Maria. I'm returning to the piano after a 20+ year hiatus, and after a couple months reacquainting my self with the piano I found Take Lessons. I have a fluid teaching approach based on my REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE with an emphasis on improving technique, musicianship and a “truth is love approach” to ensure musical improvement within the first two weeks of lessons! I sincerely believe creating music should be a joyful & fulfilling experience and one that will be a positive change in someone’s life (as it has been for mine). I teach all genres of music on multiple instruments and specialize in audition preparation, real-life gig preparation and musical mastery. I want my students to reach their musical potential and aspirations, while having a good time doing something that they love.

About Wade
I am a GRAMMY Nominated educator, trumpeter, guitarist, bassist, pianist, singer/songwriter, composer/arranger, drummer and recording artist. I graduated from University of Indianapolis with a Bachelor’s of Arts with a concentration in Jazz Studies and the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music with a Master’s in Jazz Studies, specifically in trumpet. I am currently Director of Instrumental Music at Olney Central College and Linclon Trail College and have taught at Vincennes University in the past.

I work with brass players, improvisors, singers, guitarists/bassists, pianists, drummers & songwriters/producers/composers in a wide age & stylistic range and assorted skill levels with a variety of musical goals. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to play contemporary music
using chord sheets, or both depending on the goals and preference of the student. My versatility, experience and formal training helps me to make the learning experience easy, stress free and fun. I can help any student to play or sing with freedom, confidence, and expression.

As a professional recording artist I have frequently taken trips to New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Chicago, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and many more cities for co-writing, recording, gigging and meeting with record labels. I have worked with well-known artists like Bootsy Collins (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), Philip Paul (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), Leroy Parnell (Country Music Legend), Marshall Jones (Original Bassist for Ohio Players), Liz Mandeville (Chicago Blues Hall of Fame), and Pinetop Perkins (GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award Winner). I love to mentor students who want to become effective, dynamic and versatile musicians.

My personal passion is jazz, blues and soul music but I firmly believe that great technique is essential to any and every style. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!

Wade Baker was a great trumpet instructor. One thing I noticed and liked a lot from the moment I met him was that he connected with his students to create a better musical experience. Only good things came out of my lessons and rehearsals with him. I was only under his instruction for a year, but I grew a lot as a player with the help from him and also learned more about music than I ever did before. Wade is a very experienced player in multiple genres of music and he makes sure to use all of what he learned to teach his students. The only downside to being under his instruction was how busy he could be at times, but as a musician myself I completely understood. I would recommend Wade to anyone with how great my experience was with him.

I'm a fun person who loves different genres of music. I'm laid back but I try to keep things interesting so that lessons don't feel like a chore. I sometimes teach current songs from the radio to explain theory.

About Alex
I'm a multi-instrumentalist who is excited about music and would love to teach what I have acquired about piano. I've started my journey at the age of 5 with formal lessons. I took these lessons all throughout grade school and high school. In my middle school years through high school, I played trumpet in the concert, symphonic, and marching band. Piano in Jazz band. In High School I played for my home church as well as the gospel choir at school with friends. I learned a lot about playing by ear in those years, as I am mainly classically trained. Through learning theory in my lessons and having friends who play by ear, I have learned to play radio hits and explain them. I also am a music producer and I find it fun to teach and learn through the studio as well as with piano students.

My background includes formal voice and piano with the founding members of Opera San Jose-New York Metropolitan Opera Singer Irene Dalis, Oberlin College Professor David Rohrbaugh and SJSU Choral Director Dr. Charlene Archibeque. I have performed with the San Jose Symphony and San Jose Opera. I was a scholarship recipient and graduate of San Jose State University, received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance, a secondary teaching credential in music education and have attended courses at the University of California Davis Mind Institute for a certificate in autism studies.

During the first months of my teaching I received several inquiries from parents with children on the autism spectrum who could not find a piano teacher who would take them. After researching and working with these families, my studio became one of the largest that provided all inclusive and adapted music lessons to students with just under 400 students. My work with special needs students was the focus of a 2009 documentary film in which several of my students and parents were featured discussing the effects music education had on their child.
