Really good music teachers who work well with students of various temperaments and abilities are difficult to come by. My goal is to instill a sense of music appreciation, while at the same time teaching students about the technical aspects of music. I feel qualified to teach music and to do so in a way that each student feels special, valued and encouraged. With my real world experience and unique style of teaching I believe I am an ideal musician to study with.
I was introduced to music early on by my parents, particularly my father who is a respectful painter. Being classically trained on the piano I started playing and writing songs at the tender age of seven. My early piano influences are Mozart, Beethoven and Gershwin amongst others. Growing up, I became even more influenced by Pop, R&B, Funk, and Rock artists from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and U2. As a teenager in high school, I performed recitals and played in rock bands, and picked up the guitar and drums to broaden my music repertoire. Searching for a new music direction and creative environment I relocated to New York City in 1
992 to major in music at Hunter College. Living in NYC I began performing live and became a studio session musician in the process I developed songwriting and arranging skills as well as my own composing style. As I advanced musically I began teaching piano, guitar and music theory at the Academy of Music. Teaching the basics of piano really helped me develop a love for exploring and learning music with students . Gradually my taste in music evolved into different styles of music such as Jazz, Blues, Electronic and World Music. Without a doubt, my love for great music as well as my musical background shapes the music I compose, perform and teach. With my real world experience and unique style of teaching I believe I am an ideal musician to study with.
*** Lesson Details *** First and foremost: my lessons are fun! Music is fun, it is expression, it is passion..., It so important to learn the joy of music first just as it is essential to learn proper technique, theory, sight reading and playing by ear. I have met so many people that said " I took lessons when I was young and hated it, but now I wish I could play now..." I try to create in you the desire to learn, and the desire for music knowledge. Once that is established it becomes both easier and more rewarding to dive into the "harder" stuff. I will also develop a knowledge of music history with you and as well explore current popular music. I hope to enable in all of my students a basic understanding of music, the ability to learn songs and the skill to improvise and craft songs themselves.
*** Studio Equipment *** Digital Piano , Acoustic Guitar
*** Travel Equipment *** I will advise books to learn and work out of. Students will pay for their own music books.
*** Specialties *** Reading, ear training and music philosophy. A traditional fundamental approach, with contemporary music to keep students interested.
I have been teaching piano, music, movement and dramatic arts in the Northern Virginia area since 1993. Besides teaching lessons in students homes, I've taught in studios, public and private schools, camps and afterschool programs.
I teach all ages, but most of my Beginner students are between the ages of 7 and 12. I really enjoy working with this age group-- they are alot of fun and it' great to see how quickly they learn things!
Some of my students started with me as Beginners and are now teenagers, playing at the Intermediate Level. Besides playing more complex pieces, they also play popular songs they know and like. Music from the TV show "Glee" is a big favorite!
Some of my favorite composers are Anton Dvorak, JS Bach, Ludwig Von Beethoven, Scott Joplin, and Cole Porter. Some of my favorite musicians and bands are The Be
atles, U2, Paul Simon, Tori Amos, Alicia Keys, Coldplay, and B-52's.
*** Lesson Details *** For beginners, I generally use the Bastien Beginner series starting at the Primer Level and going through to Level Four. Depending on the student, going through the beginner level can take anywhere from four to six years. I use a lesson book, supplemental song book which features concepts learned, and a Theory book for written homework. Within 3-6 months, starting at the Primer Level, student will be reading notes on the musical staff and playing short pieces with both hand together.
Intermediate level students work on repetoire pieces from classical, ragtime, modern, jazz and popular music.
*** Travel Equipment *** Students need to have a piano or keyboard in their home
I am thoroughly background checked every year and work with local after school programs in the area.

I have such a great time teaching piano lessons. At whatever level the student is at, child, adult, beginner, intermediate, there is always so much to explore on the piano. At the same time, there is always something to accomplish right then and there. There is a great ebb and flow to lessons. I teach classical and I can also teach basic pop/folk/jazz piano.
Hello! Let's have some fun, work hard, and help you feel more confident about your instrument. I have been teaching music for ten years. My home studio is a cozy and safe place to take lessons or I can visit you in your home. I also teach piano, guitar, and ukulele.

She is an excellent teacher, was very patient and explained everything thoroughly. Highly recommended. Looking forward to going back. Thanks Lynne
In my teaching philosophy, I always teach students to understand the music better throughout the historical concepts. To let them enhance their understanding of the connection between music and life. I also stress that to be a good musician or artist, you have to learn how to be a good human being first. Because, people’s personality or character could reflect in their music as always. 1. To train the basic fundamental techniques 2. To learn the different style of the music throughout Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern music. 3. To train the performance mode 4. To learn how to "practice"

My 4.5 year old daughter had her first piano lesson with Jingci. I had learned how to play piano when I was a kid, so I could tell Jingci knows how to teach the basic foundation very well. She's firm yet patient and got my daughter to follow her instructions even though her attention span isn't that great at her age.

Ms. Liu is so kind and patient. Great to know her and study with her.
I believe everyone can lean to play the piano! I’m using the blended method of teaching the piano, using Suzuki, ABRSM, and Bastien music literature. My main priority is to learn the child (or adult) and apply the best individualized methods matching to his best learning styles and personality. Learning to play the piano enhance memory, concentration, attention span, and patience. I make sure my lessons are dynamic and fun!
I have been playing the piano since I was 7 years old. I graduated from Prokofiev Music College in Ukraine with specialization in Piano Pedagogy and Performance. I won many local young pianist competitions and participated in the International piano competitions in Russia, Poland, Croatia, and Bulgaria. I have been teaching the piano since 2000 in Ukraine, Italy, Bahrain, Arab Emirates, and USA. I really enjoy teaching the children of different age and keep very positive, friendly and comfortable environment during the piano lessons. I expect my students to progress week by week by providing them a very dynamic program of piano performance, music literacy, and improvisation with further recitals, competition, and exams. Look forward to meeting my future pianist!
Experienced professional instructor specializing in beginning to intermediate level students of all ages, greatest emphasis on a solid foundation and lifelong enjoyment of the instrument and development of a love of music.
My passion is music and my greatest joy is sharing that passion. My teaching style is adapted to each student, customized lesson plans and curriculum designed to teach and challenge but also ensure the student is enjoying the experience by basing lessons on music in which the student is interested or related to their other interests and activities. I’ve been studying and performing since I was four years old and it’s always my great pleasure to share the love of music!
Jeanmarie helped me to learn the proper way to hold the cello and the bow. She watched carefully to be sure I maintained that throughout the lesson. I am pleased that she is going to be sure I learn to play the cello well to prevent injuries. She also gave me some very basic bowing and finger exercises to practice this first week so I begin to build correct muscle memory before I go on to working with sheet music.
I had been teaching myself piano for many years when I reached a point where I was not improving and realized I needed a tea
cher. Sharon helped me work on my weaknesses as a musician and had a good eye for pieces that helped me build on my strengths. We always had fun working together, and she was always good about working around my busy schedule."
"My son love his first piano class. Good beginning!"
Rhonda is an AWESOME instructor! She is extremely flexible, patient, reliable and she makes learning piano fun. I would recommend her
to students of all ages."
"Mrs. Quick is a wonderful teacher. I love her passion for music and her enthusiasm, laughter and joy in her teaching. She's very patients with her stude
nts. My son first started piano when he was 6. He had never play the piano or had any music background before. Mrs. Quick had taught him. Within a few months, he could read his music notes and play many many songs. My 11 years old daughter is also a big fan of Mrs. Quick. Over the years her skills and technique keeps improving. They both enjoy every lessons with her. Thank you Mrs. Quick."
"Lena is a wonderful piano instructor. I have always wanted to play the piano since I was a little girl. I have made several attempts to learn in the past
and was unsuccessful every time. I started working with Lena about 4 months ago and I am already learning so much. She is patient, kind, knowledgeable and encouraging. Within 2 months I was already playing a song. I highly recommend Lena to anyone thinking about taking up the piano, or to anyone looking to polish up their skills."
"Faye is great with my 6 year old daughter. She is very creative with the materials she provides and has age appropriate activities and songs. Her prices a
re fair AND she comes to my home."
"Both my husband & I are musicians & teachers yet we send both of our children to Jennifer Herring for piano lessons. Jennifer has been teaching my daughte
r for 5 years now & my son for 2. Jennifer is an outstanding teacher! She is patient with all levels, yet encouraging when her students need encouragement. My children always want to return & learn something new & exciting. My son wanted nothing to do with playing the piano in the beginning, however after the first lesson, he hugged & thanked Jennifer for teaching him to play the piano. He automatically sits down at the piano to practice & compose on his own. Jennifer has both my husband's & my highest recommendation!!!"
"My 9 year old told me Nick is the best piano teacher ever. He loves going to his lessons and is progressing nicely I think. When my son goes off on a tang
ent or wants to talk about the billion things going on in his head at the moment, Nick is super patient and gently steers him back on track."
There are so many beautiful piano pieces that make the perfect choice for wedding processionals. Here, Saint Augustine, FL teacher Heather L. shares a few to consider...
Weddings are beautiful celebrations of a couple's lifelong commitment to one another. They're also a great performance opportunity for pianists out there. Though the organ, string quartets, and choirs are still used, piano is commonly the main instrument at a wedding ceremony for those who choose live music.
