Joseph has a wealth of knowledge about speaking, listening, vocals, etc.

He created a welcoming environment in our online lessons that made it easy to be vulnerable and get right to working on new skills.

I highly recommend for others looking to better understand their voice and communication style, and learn to hone them.

Joseph put us at ease immediately. Our first lesson included valuable information on how to warm up our voices, increase our range and protect our voices. We look forward to our next lesson.

I have been studying piano with Joseph for nearly five years. In that time, I’ve learned more about the piano and musical interpretation than I ever thought possible.

Joseph’s technical ‘short cuts’ are amazing! He illustrates ways for your hands and your mind to work that are tailor made for you. Learning from him is so fun it seems almost effortless.

The way Joseph teaches allows you to develop at your own pace. The atmosphere is always relaxed yet everything moves along quickly.

At the open classes I attend, his other students are progressing very rapidly too. After each class, we share our impressions. The mood is elated because it feels like we stepped back in time and into history.

Joseph often quotes inspired wisdom of his historic teachers in our lessons. He is a great inspiration on his own with great musical insights.

I’m playing Beethoven and Chopin works I never thought I could approach at this stage of study, with great depth of understanding. I now play with greater passion and skill, get compliments from everyone I play for, and no longer worry about playing in public.

I look forward to each and every lesson with Joseph. His encouragement and support makes learning so rewarding! Anyone who finds this musical treasure is a lucky person and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I can help you play by ear, as well as read music. Really, they both help each other out.

Typically lessons start with a warm-up or exercise, which usually relates to a concept in the songs or pieces we study in the lesson. Lessons can vary based on student goals and approach. For example, an advanced classical lesson might target specific spots in larger pieces, while a jazz/pop lesson might deal with hand positioning for chords and ear training. In a beginning lesson, we focus on either finding patterns on the piano that are used in most chord progressions or melodies, or music literacy, depending on the student's preference.

About Matt

I am a professional singer who has proficiencies in piano, organ, choral directing, musical analysis, and ear training/playing by ear. I currently teach college non-majors, and specialize in teaching adult beginning students.

Just starting lessons with Matt, but he seems very to have great knowledge about how to teach students to grow in their vocal skills. He is very enthusiastic and positive, but honest in his assessment of skills which is important to vocalists who truly WANT to improve their skills. The initial lesson experiences have been really beneficial. Looking forward to continuing lessons with Matt!

Katya has been giving online lessons to my two children, ages 14 and 12, for the past 6 months. Before this, the children received in person lessons from Katya for 3 years. Katya is an excellent pianist and piano tutor. She is patient and kind. She always looks for ways to motivate the different skill levels. She is very talented and sparks in children the love for learning and becoming avid at playing piano. Katya also gave piano lessons to other children from the same school my children attended and they all loved the piano lessons with Katya. I highly recommend Katya as a knowledgeable and loving piano instructor.

How to Teach Piano to Every Age Group (Preschoolers, Teens, and Adults)

No two piano students are the same. As a teacher, it's important to take a unique approach to teaching different age groups. Below, piano teacher Rhonda B. shares some helpful tips on how to teach piano to every age group... Imagine a department store where every item of women’s clothing is labeled size small. The store’s designer has decided on a certain ideal, and that’s what’s offered. If you don’t like it, you’re obviously ignorant of good taste. As silly as this seems …

How Often Should You Tune a Piano?

Wondering about the average piano tuning cost, or how often you should tune a piano? You've come to the right place! Just as you go to the doctor for check-ups from time to time, your piano needs maintenance and care throughout its life. You may notice, especially if you have a keen ear, that your piano drops in pitch particularly during the summer and winter months. This is because your piano is mostly made of wood, and your wooden soundboard will contract when the weather is drier -- or the …

How to Read Sheet Music for Piano | The Mental Flip Strategy

As a beginner, learning how to read sheet music for piano is one of the first things you'll work on with your teacher. Read on as Tucson, AZ tutor Blake C. shares his strategy for understanding the relationships between the notes on the page: One of the most difficult things about learning how to read sheet music for the piano, as opposed to most other instruments, is that there is not just a single melody to be played. Piano music requires you to play more the one part at a time. Usually t …
