I encourage my students to pursue all types of music. I like to use “method books” to help with reading and music theory no matter which instrument they choose. I always use supplemental materials that follow the student’s interests and level. I often use technology in lessons to motivate and help students grow. For example, I use many apps for theory, note reading, and rhythm training.

A cancellation 24hrs in advance is always appreciated.

Matt taught me for a 3 month period and helped me drastically with learning how to improvise guitar solos. I can't thank Matt enough for his help in helping me with a rather unorthodox time to start getting lessons. Each week he told me to bring 3 songs with a guitar solo I would like to learn in different genres and each week we broke down the solos for me to practice and gather their techniques. Thank you so much Matt!

Private Piano Teacher

With playing piano for Nearly 20 years and teaching Piano for 10 years, not only with the student come out gaining skill and knowledge but they will want to actually practice at home!

About Rosita

I have been singing and studying voice for over 23 years since I was a child! I hold a Bachelors from Musicians Institute and other accomplished degrees from American Musical Dramatic Academy to conclude my quest for vocal excellence and the ability to sing in multiple languages ( English, Spanish, Japanese and Italian) I have been lucky enough to study with some of the top teachers in the country and now I bring the experience I have gained directly to you!

I am proud to share my student's vast array of musical successes. From being cast on short anime films and musicals to being accepted into prestigious performing arts academies to conquering the Karaoke scene. My passion for multiple languages and love of music is the desire driving me to share the gifts for teaching young children to open the door to their own musical abilities an

d hidden artistic desires. I am currently writing a musical which will be debuting in 2020. I'm currently the vocal coach/Trainer and choir director at Iglesia Elim Central.

I will make sure my students have fun and help them get in the right track to their musical goals.

Also, I constantly upload videos on Singing, The Spanish Language, and Japanese! So keep Checking in! It ranges on tips and answering the most common questions on those particular subjects!

Also There are discounted rates for worship teams and church choirs. For more information please contact me through the "Ask a Question feature"

*** Lesson Details ***
I do my absolute best to create a positive atmosphere for my students. Even when the students feel frustrated or stressed, it is important to inspire them and give them the fuel that they need. Though I am strict when it comes to homework and their about their studies. Every lesson at the beginning I will review what we learned previously and test them.
then begin with proper breathing technique exercises, the cornerstone of all vocals. We move on to vocal exercises to condition the voice. Then we work on the songs that you are eager to sing!

I will use a piano when doing vocal warm ups and conditioning exercises. Students that play other instruments and accompany themselves when performing (such as a guitar) are encouraged to bring that instrument to their lessons. My goal is for them to gain the knowledge that they need to help reach their artistic goals.
With all my lessons every student will be taught a basic run down of Music Theory. My students will always progress in what they do. They will have the discipline that they need and yet have fun and be filled with inspiration. Which is the most important thing, to be Inspired to do better.

*** Studio Equipment ***
iMac, condensing mic...performing mic, keyboard, mixer...living room of apartment.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I do have a portable keyboard. Though I do expect the student to have their own recording device and karaoke tracks. At Home I do have a studio, and if the students has an iPod or an Mp3 player I can attach it to a device where all of us can hear the tracks. I do have a recording studio as well.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Musical Theatre, and Pop rock genres. When I teach my students I always have them learn a song of another language whether it's Spanish or Japanese. It helps with diction when they learn a song outside the English Language. Also, It helps them to learn another Language at the same time. Also, I give them a little anatomy class when they are learning how to sing. I give them a model of the Vocal Cords and different areas of the Larynx and which part works for the chest voice and the head voice.

I would absolutely recommend Rosita because I think she has the bestSpanish course for medical Spanish. It’s everything that you need without having to go through a bunch of unrelated Spanish vocabulary. I don’t really need to know how to order a meal, I want to find out how I can help my patient. I need to be able to communicate with my patients and understand what they’re saying back. It’s nice to have something so perfect for our profession. And I think that it’s also nice because it’s an interactive lesson. The training course is pretty easily accessible and you can go back and look up lessons and refresh what you need to look at.

Rosa is such a great mentor for piano and music! She is patient, and has a keen sense of where I am at in terms of my understanding and technique. Not only my musical ability to play the piano improved tremendously, my sense of appreciation for music has deepened. The appreciation of music also translated to improving my relationship with others and increasing empathy. Would you like a world-class pianist looking over you to give you insight into her world? Have her as your teacher. If you're lucky, you might just get to experience the tradition that has been handed down from classical giants (she once told me her mentor at Eastman is a 4th generation student in the lineage of Beethovan!).

John is a fantastic instructor. He has a love for educating others on musical expression and he is a wellspring of musical knowledge. He provides a depth to the piano that I wouldn't have noticed if I taught myself how to play.

John emphasized how to shape musical phrases to make music as opposed to a collection of notes. He had a good ear for honing in on my weaknesses such as how some notes that I played stuck out or the movement of my arms. Most importantly, he taught me how to approach practicing the piano in an effective way. I learned how to listen to myself and how give each note, phrase, and piece the attention and musicality it needed to sound beautifully.

For an adult learner as myself, he was accommodating with how busy I was. He adjusted to my needs and work schedule and taught at a reasonable pace. However, he also never veered from his expectations and praised what I was doing right and provided methods to fix what I was doing wrong.

Although there were times when John expressed his passion for music by delving into tangents on the broader historical significance of pieces, his mini-lectures were never irrelevant nor inappropriate. For example, he commented on how in waltzes, the rhythm on the left hand would need to emulate how a Romantic era string section would play it. For anyone who is serious about how or why pieces of music are meant to be played in a certain way, John is great about contextualizing pieces to make them sound great.

Most importantly, he made practicing piano something that was both enjoyable and challenging, which is difficult to find in a teacher. I owe a great deal of my musicianship to John and he met my expectations of learning the piano. Thank you!

Private Piano Teacher

Hi There!

Before I became an opera singer, I took classical piano lessons for many many years and throughout college we were required to take piano lessons.
Even though I am primarily a vocalist, I believe that it is very important that all voice teachers are able to play the piano, so that we may help our students sing correct rhythms, pitches, and accompany them with their vocal exercises.

As an intermediate pianist, I teach beginners of all ages! You are never too young or too old to play piano!

About Sarabeth

Hello fellow singers! My goal is to help you refine your own unique instrument and help you to express a story and art through the voice!

I grew up taking piano lessons and singing in my church and school choir. I always had a love for all classical music and soon enough fell in love with opera! I begin taking classical voice lessons at the age of 15 and soon realized that my heart and soul belonged to opera and had to continue my studies a lot more in depth.

I went to UCLA where I received my Bachelor of Arts with my emphasis in Opera Performance. Throughout the years spent at UCLA, I not only continued to sing with choral groups, but also performed in every opera. I sang one of the principles roles in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges, and sang one of the principles roles in many opera scenes such as Dorabella from Così fan tutt

e, Mercedes in Carmen, Second Lady in The Magic Flute, Nerone in L'incorazione di Poppea.

Since I graduated college I have collaborated with nationally known directors, conductors, and voice teachers such as Peter Kazaras, James Darrah, Bruce Stasyna, Juliana Gondek, and Enrique Toral. I have sang in Master Classes given by Susan Graham and Bradley Moore. I have performed roles with Astoria Music Festival, Miami Music Festival, Opera NEO, and San Diego Opera.

As a teacher my job is to use my knowledge and experience to help my students learn to sing with as much ease as possible, while refining the instrument for the classical repertoire. I not only focus on technique, but also diction and artistry, because as singers we are story tellers.

I highly recommend Sarabeth to anyone interested in singing, whether you have already had some background in voice or you are just starting out.

Sarabeth is a truly amazing voice teacher!!! She led me step by step through many vocal exercises and taught me many a great classical song! Her patience and encouragement were ever present at each lesson as I stumbled through the classical songs which were written in other languages.

I have SMA type 1-2, a severely debilitating and progressive disease, and my lung capacity was 24% of normal when Sarabeth started teaching me. Under her guidance, I was able to increase my lung capacity to 28%! Believe me when I say that this is not supposed to happen to people with SMA. In general our lung capacities continue to decrease as the disease progresses until we need to be placed under mechanical ventilation. The most common mode of death for people with SMA is respiratory failure.

I am deeply saddened that Sarabeth is moving away to Los Angeles and will no longer be able to be my singing teacher, but wishing her the best of luck there!!! I will always remember her as the incredibly wonderful teacher she is!

FAQ

Can anyone sing?

Yes, singing is a practice that involves muscle development, coordination, and flexibility as well as musical understanding through ear training. I have effective methods to identify issues and solutions to achieve your singing goals.

How long will it take to see results?

It depends on where we stand and where we want to be. Goals should be set depending on the strengths and limits of each persons voice. The time of improvement can vary form the first lesson to years ahead depending on that goal. Normally 6 months with consistent training will get the muscles used to the exercise to perceive improvement.

Is online better than in person?

Online is bringing great benefits to my students: no cost or time of transportation, sing at your personal space, set your singing spot with the tools you need. I have identified more focus in online sessions. On the other hand, in person allows us to record at the studio and play music live.

Will you take me to stardom?

I am a professional singer with experience in major record label deals, touring, live performance, songwriting, music production and TV appearances. I made many mistakes in my career and some very good decisions as well. All I can do, if that would be the path you’re pursuing, is to cut the learning curve for you, support your efforts and warn you about the consequences of your choices.

Am I too young or too old to sing?

I’ve had 70+ years old students still achieving results as they learn that music has its logic behind it and not only raw talent. I would recommend starting lessons not earlier than 6 or 7 years old unless the kid is super interested and focused and has evident natural ease but I’ve also seen 5 year olds who have a clear vision for this. Beyond age, interest and focus makes you the best candidate for my program. Uninterested people tend to have slow if any results and goal driven people prove to have better results even if they don’t perceive themselves as naturally talented.

What genres do you teach?

I don’t teach genres, I reinforce them. I try to use the best singers I know as reference regarding technique, creativity and style but If a singer has a very unique style I try to encourage their uniqueness.

What comes after I sing well?

Songwriting, producing and releasing music. Collaborating with other people and performing live and I will assist in all those areas when we get there.

Am I too bad for singing?

I believe anyone can find themselves in music. The minute you sing to express and not to impress the game changes. It is true that some people have more ability and ease for singing, call it physical attributes or innate understanding of music but success lies in what you do with what you have and celebrating your uniqueness and identity. Not all great singers are great artists and not all great artists are great singers.

Am I too good to get a vocal coach?

Vocal coaches not necessarily are better than you. Like athlete coaches, vocal coaches are there to assist you, know about your voice status, range, capabilities and weaknesses. They assist you to find the best key for the songs you perform, keep track of your trainings, accompany your songs, assist in producing, arranging and songwriting and know you at a personal level where you can express openly. They are honest and objective with you both when you feel like you’re a voice God and when you’re feeling worthless.

Do I need to dream about stardom to get singing lessons.

No. You set your own limits. I have many clients from real estate, finance, technology and many unrelated industries which just love music, want to develop their emotional expression or simply have a personal challenge. I’ve even coached people to improve their verbal communication skills for sales. I’ve seen some impressive talents that will forever remain hidden and I respect that. (If you ever change your mind I can still help though)
