I found Zach through 'take lessons' after my daughter had a few years with an intense classical pianist. I want my daughter to have fun and appreciate music and not feel the intense pressure she was feeling with our previous instructor. Zach was the perfect choice. My daughter loves her lessons. Zach does take time off for his professional endevors. Good for him. He has always let us know and connected with us when he returns.

About Melody
Are you looking to sing or play keyboard, work on material for your band, build your repertoire, sing or play in the church choir/band, audition for a production, become a better lead singer in your rock or pop band, overcome stage-fright or wanting to get to the next level? You have come to the right place!

My lessons provide students with an opportunity to deeply explore the voice, build confidence, and to develop healthy and effective singing practices, which can be applied to any style of musical singing and playing.

A well-rounded music education is very important and I have fun and educational resources for learning vocal technique, ear training, harmony, pitch matching and music theory.

I am very fortunate to have performed and studied Classical and Opera, musical theater productions, have sang in Rock, Pop, Country, R&B
bands and can bring that real-world experience into the lesson. The student will receive real hands-on knowledge about singing in a variety of environments and how to manage his/her vocal goals!

In addition to being vocally healthy, I encourage self-expression and enhance self-esteem in my students: singers of all ages, skill levels and styles. Plus, it has to be fun, otherwise why do it? Singing is a process and less about the end goal and we train the body, mind and use imagination and it's a very exciting process!

***My students regularly receive scholarships and placement in music schools and programs around the U.S., have won competitions, do well in auditions, are performing in successful bands and/or recording artists.

I am energetic and enthusiastic; actively promote values and traditional teaching practices coupled with the introduction of technology into the lesson. My experience as an educator is to share passion and talent for music with the next generation of musicians and outstanding communication skills. I really care about my students and provide the tools to help them reach their goals!

Degrees:
Bachelor of Music, minor in Psychology from Michigan State University
Master of Vocal Pedagogy from Oakland University

Here is some of my experience as a performer: I have sung Internationally at the renowned €œEisteffodd Music Festival€ in Wales, toured through Britain and performed at the Laupin Agile Cabaret in Paris. I was honored with a nomination to attend the prestigious Yale Cabaret Conference and worked with cabaret legend Julie Wilson and Manhattan Transfer founder Laurel Masse. Sung and performed roles with the Mid-Michigan and Detroit Opera Companies. Performed a production of Sleepwalkers€ with the Kari Margolis Brown Company at the O'Shaughnessy Theatre. I currently perform all over the Twin Cities with my own R&B/Soul Band, Melody and The Dramatics!€ Plus, I am a contract vocalist and perform in a variety of other projects, so needless to say, it is all a very awesome ride!

*** Lesson Details ***
My laid-back and fun approach allows for versatility and is tailored to meet the needs of the individual student. When studying the art of singing you are gaining skills, which build confidence.

When you understand what you'€™re doing and why, you bring more confidence to your performance. Progress is made with regular practice outside of lessons. Voice students record each private lesson through their devices and take notes in their own notebooks.

I have "warm-up" tracks which you can use in your car or at home and you will notice significant improvement once you start your routine.

Practicing is very important and I have great methods to teach students how to maximize their time and get the best results! I am privileged to have an opportunity to teach and very passionate about coaching a student to meet his or her musical goals!

Also, I have a Beagle named "Bacon" and he will always be very excited to see you, however he does calm down when you're in the studio. In addition, I have two cats, so please let me know if you have allergies or any special recommendations.

Thanks so much!
Melody

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the music room, PA system, piano, keyboard, laptop, recording microphone, microphone, mirror.

The house is in a cul-de-sac and there is ample street parking. Also, in the case of a snow emergency, you will be able to park in the driveway.

*** Specialties ***
I teach in a variety of vocal styles including, rock, pop, jazz, country and classical, keyboard and music theory. I have been trained by some of the best instructors in the country and strive for my students to be vocally healthy, so they'll have long careers. I also perform in professional bands, orchestras and can bring that experience into the lesson.
Energetic and enthusiastic; actively promote values and traditional teaching practices coupled with the introduction of technology into the lesson. Experienced educator eager to share passion and talent for music with the next generation of musicians and outstanding communication skills.

About Colin
Colin has 20 years of experience spanning all genre's and styles of music. Countless hours of stage performance with bands. A love, drive and passion for music and drumming you won't find in any other instructor! Multiple studio recordings both behind the mixing board and behind the drum set. 10 years of teaching experience, realizing the importance of setting a unique curriculum for each student tailored to fit each individual's goals and interests. I have been involved in bands ever since middle school, starting with rock, and moving on to perform in country bands, hip-hop performances, indie rock bands, and progressive rock bands. A strong knowledge of jazz techniques and music theory as well as the ability to read drum sheet music make me a perfect instructor for any student.
I have had many beginner and intermediate level student's
and have become proficient in determining what skills each individual student needs to work on as well as helping students progress in their interests, keeping the lessons fun and the student motivated. I can easily transcribe any song as well! So any song you might want to learn, even if there is no sheet music, is totally doable. I love working in odd time signatures and I prefer fancy hi-hat work over heavy double-bass drum use. Progressive / Indie rock is my favorite genre of music to play, but I have tons of fun playing hip-hop, punk, metal, I dabble in jazz, Latin rhythms, and pretty much anything else. I'm always excited to play drums, and I pass this excitement on in my teachings.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons and curriculum's are built around a students experience level, age, and goals. Students will learn the fundamentals of drumming, as well as the ability to add flair and pizzazz to their playing. Within the first 3 months, a beginning level student will have the ability to play basic beats found in many styles of music, as well as feeling comfortable playing to a metronome and keeping time. Lessons will include routines to be practiced by the student on their own time, as well as fun, exciting techniques to keep students interested and motivated to continue playing.
Each Lesson will hold its own highlights depending on the student. I believe getting to know the student and their goals for their drumming is one of the most important aspects of teaching lessons. Understanding whether the student is looking to drum as a hobby and for fun will change the lesson style dramatically compared to a student looking to make a living off drumming. The types of routines, styles and techniques taught should fit into helping the student reach their desired destination.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the basement, full band rehearsal set up with 2 drum kits, one for the student, one for the teacher in an acoustically treated room.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect the student to have a drum set and drum sticks. I can provide a drum set for lessons but it is important for the student to have a drum set or practice pad to practice.

*** Specialties ***
I have touched on almost every genre of music. I specialize in rock, progressive rock, funk and fusion.

About Jenny
I have lifelong love of the violin. My goal is to share that love of music with every one of my students, and to help inspire my students to become well-rounded and passionate musicians!

I currently teach students aged 7 through adult. I teach at MacPhail Center for Music, and at MacPhail partnerships at Harvest Preparatory Academy, the WISHES program in Wayzata, and the MacPhail Northside Youth Orchestra. I previously taught group violin at FAIR school downtown and El Sistema Minnesota. These programs aim to promote social change through music education.

My approach to violin teaching is positive, collaborative, and holistic. I specifically tailor lessons to the individual needs of each student and really take the time to learn about each student’s musical goals and interests. I aim to create a positive, supportive environment, wh
ere every student, no matter age or ability, can feel free to express their creativity.

I earned my B.A. in 2014 from St. Olaf College, where I studied both music and neuroscience. My background in music is largely collaborative, having played extensively as a chamber musician, an orchestral musician, a pit musician, an accompanist, and a soloist. I strongly value giving constructive criticism in a positive and understanding way. I know how hard it can be to learn an instrument, and I fully respect that!

My background in teaching also includes music theory and music history, which is an essential part of understanding the music that we play. I began teaching in 2009 as the founder of J&J’s Music Camp, whose mission is to educate young people about music history, theory, and repertoire in a fun and engaging way. Since then, I have taught violin privately, have worked as an instructor in Theory and Aural Skills at St. Olaf College, and have worked as an Instructor of Music Theory at the Portland Youth Philharmonic, where I formerly served as Associate Concertmaster.

I have also held positions as a first violinist in the Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra and the Newport Symphony Orchestra, and have served as Associate Concertmaster of the St. Olaf Orchestra, winner of the 2013 American Prize. In addition, I was a soloist on the St. Olaf Orchestra’s National Tour in 2012, and am the recipient of the Oregon Music Hall of Fame Scholarship and the Thursday Musical Young Artists Scholarship. Perhaps some of the most meaningful work I have done is in chamber music, as a violinist in the Bridge City Quartet and the St. Olaf Piano Quintet. These experiences truly developed my passion for collaboration and partnership in music, which is to me one of the most meaningful aspects of music. I truly believe that taking violin lessons is a partnership between teacher and student. As a teacher, I look forward to sharing my love of music with anyone who wants to explore their musicality and learn more about the beautiful instrument that is the violin. Thanks!

I was an adult trying to pick up violin for the first time. Jenny was an excellent teacher, very chill and patient. I was a less than ideal student but she dealt with it and offered fantastic advice. I had to end lessons to move to another state but before I left she wrote down a bunch of stuff for me to practice while I looked for another teacher.

Great teacher, cool person, perfect for what I was looking for. I can only speak from the perspective of a total beginner but I give my complete recommendation.

Compared to other violin students who begin at 4 or 5 years old, I'm starting a little late (and by a little late, I mean by 12-13 years late). I've wanted to learn for the longest time and I had the fortune of coming across Jenny.

Jenny is a wonderful teacher. She answered questions I didn't even know I had. Any little problem I had with bowing or getting notes and she knew how to fix it. Contacting her with any last minute or just quick questions is always easy and you always get an in depth response.

She also really personalized the lessons and your goals as a student are always kept in mind. I was always motivated after each lesson to keep practicing because we were studying things that I was more interested in.

Plus, personality-wise, Jenny is super patient and kind. If I wasn't getting something or a difficult passage came up and I just couldn't master it no matter what, she would take me through it step by step no matter how many times I may have already studied it before.

I would definitely recommend her as a teacher.
