I have been teaching classical and electric guitar for about 9 years and I structure my lessons according to a student's goals, and objectives on the instrument. My students have been able to learn tunes by ear, and understand chord progressions and structures, and play with a pick or finger style!
I specialize in rock, metal, classical and jazz, and I can also teach extended range guitars and alternate tunings. Learn to shred, sweep, alternate pick and hybrid pick like no one's business!

About Poh Hock

Hi! My name is Poh Hock. I have been playing music for at least 20 years and I have been teaching the guitar for about 9 years now. I provide lessons at your home, my studio and online! I have a very hands-on approach to teaching and I believe that students should have fun while learning. I als

Poh Hock is a well-rounded and versatile teacher. He is capable in many styles of playing and has a powerful understanding of music theory to reinforce his teaching. He is very patient and relaxed; I never feel stressed preparing for or during lessons. He is able to tailor his lessons more around exercises or learning songs depending on the wants and needs of the students. I've been taking music lessons in different instruments for 10+ years; learning with Poh Hock has singularly been the most positive and productive experience in that time.

Poh is awesome. He's super talented and educated in music. He has a great personality and challenges me in a positive way. I'm always looking forward to the next lesson!
Julian
Poh Hock is a great teacher that really has a passion for playing and teaching guitar. His style of teaching is very precise and methodical. I learned a lot of songs taking lessons with him but more importantly Poh Hock taught me how to practice material that I was working on. The lessons were really more like guided practice sessions. While some teachers that I've had might just use the lesson to teach material and have me practice over the week, Poh Hock used lesson time to really drill sections and get them to sound good. I absolutely recommend Poh Hock as a teacher for anyone who seriously wants to improve their playing and their approach to music in general.

I am a professional violinist and violist in the Boston area. I am a graduate of the New England Conservatory where I have studied with Miriam Fried, Donald Weilerstein, and Martha Katz. I have performed extensively throughout my life as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player on both the violin and viola in a variety of professional ensembles including substitute viola work with the Borromeo String Quartet. I draw from this performing background to teach my students of all ages and abilities.

I currently act as Adjunct Instructor of Violin and Viola at Merrimack College, where I serve as a primary instrumental teacher to enrolled students. I have also acted as the primary violin teacher for Main Street Music, LLC, in Waltham. Additionally, I run a private studio of 5-10 students as young as 6 and as old as 60. Of these, some never touched an instrument before our first lesson, and some are serious conservatory-bound musicians intending to make a career as a performer.

Luther loves to teach. At every lesson he is there for you, ready to help you. He has an extensive musical background, after studying violin at New England Conservatory with Meriam Fried and Donald Weilerstein, as well as performing and studying at many prestigious summer music festivals, including Ravinia’s Steans Institute, the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and the Taos School of Music. In addition, Luther is an excellent violist, studying with Martha Katz, also at New England Conservatory.

Luther loves to answer all of your questions. He will analyze and dissect your technical questions about how to play the violin: concerning tone, bowing, left hand issues, and how to use your arms, shoulders, back and your whole body while playing the instrument. He can help you with fingering and answer your questions about written music. He will demonstrate and help you play musically. He is able prepare you for your orchestral audition, help you learn concertos and other solo music and help you with chamber music. Thanks Luther for continuing to help me attain my dream to become an excellent violinist!

I had my first lesson with Luther today. He is personable, informative, gave constructive feedback and encouraged me. I found his style of instruction helpful.
I’m looking forward to my next lesson with him.
Brabeeba
It's a blaze to work with Luther! He identified my problem very quickly and provided concrete advices on improving the sound. His understanding on how beautiful sound is made is very clear and systematic. There are so many dimensions in the sound making for violin but he always breaks it down and works on each individual part of my postures and bowing. My sound is now much fuller than before! He also not only teaches violin but also how to think about music in general. I feel like I am constantly critically thinking on how I can experiment with each phrase after I take lessons with Luther. I will highly recommend Luther if you want to find a violin teacher!

I recently began singing again after a year and was very unconfident in my voice and my ability to improve. Albino was the perfect instructor for someone like me because of his patience and positivity. He was able to point out issues with my singing technique or provide feedback in a very positive way, without seeming critical. Whenever I was confused about something, he would work with me non-stop until I understood. Albino inspires confidence in all his students, and I highly recommend him as a teacher!

Professional trombonist working in the NYC area. Experienced in teaching all styles of music to all ages and levels.

I have also taught many older students that want to rediscover their passion for music.

Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. Instead of simply training students to read music and play notes, I prefer to teach my students to think, play, and act like musicians.

My lessons feature improvisation skills, sight-reading, playing by ear, building a strong technical foundation and musical analysis.
Lesson are also focused on staying engaged by playing new fun and challenging material.
To me the most important thing is to have fun and to keep the passion we all have for music while gaining technical proficiency.

She had two other teachers before we met Niki and they were not able to help my daughter to keep her focused and have fun /enjoy the piano lesson. With Niki , my daughter became excited every week to go to piano class and practices at home on her own. Niki has a way of inspiring my daughter to love playing the piano even more. My daughter is always excited for the recitals ,( Which she performed in one yesterday) Recitals are very helpful to promote self confidence at young age.
