About Andrew
My name is Andrew, and I've been a musician nearly my entire life. I have a Bachelor's degree in classical guitar performance from Arizona State University, but my background goes far beyond classical music. My performance experiences range from playing violin in my high school symphony orchestra to playing lead guitar in a Santana cover band, and just about everything in between! As a teacher, you can expect me to be positive and encouraging. My biggest goal is to inspire you and help you discover a similar passion for music as I've developed over the years.

*** Lesson Details ***
While
I do expect students to practice consistently, I always do my best to tailor the lesson plans to their wants as well as their needs so practice is both fun and challenging. For students pursuing classical music, I'll typically start them in a book and reading sheet music, but for just about anything else, the lesson plans will be more customized to the taste of my students and will not require music reading ability in most cases. After the first few months, my students can expect to have a solid understanding of music, their instrument, and what steps to take to reach their long term goals.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio includes a full drum set, electric piano, as well as several guitars and a bass guitar. I would prefer that the student brings his or her own guitar or bass. I always have spare books and music in case the student forgets to bring their own.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I travel with my own guitar and bass guitar, but for piano and drum lessons, the student will need their own instrument and a quiet area to get the most from the lessons.

*** Specialties ***
While I have a degree in classical guitar, I have several years of experience with blues and classic rock, specifically on the electric guitar and drums. Aside from those, I enjoy all genres of music and have plenty of musical experience outside of the aforementioned genres.

About Carolyn
I am an experienced voice and piano teacher with 25 + years of teaching experience.

I am passionate about teaching, and my experience includes teaching voice and piano to elementary through college students, in academic settings and in my home. I love working with people of all ages.

As a soprano, I have sung professionally with many choral ensembles, and have performed as soloist in recitals and concerts throughout the US. I have appeared in musical theater and opera productions in leading roles. I have also been a college choir director and voice teacher.

In addition, I have
performed as piano soloist in various settings, and piano accompanist for choirs, singers and instrumentalists in church, contest and concerts.

Recently, I earned my Doctorate in Music from Arizona State University.

My studio is where I share my expertise and passion for music with private voice and piano students. My approach is that music should be fun and satisfying. I want students to have the enjoyment of accomplishing great things, and build on their natural abilities and love of music. I look forward to meeting you, and seeing where your musical talents can take you!

*** Lesson Details ***
Each voice lesson begins with a warm up: movement:, stretches, breathing, and relaxation while focusing on good posture. Following that we continue warming up the voice with appropriate vocal exercises. If desired, we can spend time sight singing (reading music). Then we will turn to your chosen piece(s) of music. You could bring in a song or aria of your interest, or I could suggest pieces that I feel suit your voice. Some areas that I like to focus on in are relaxation, posture, breathing, support, use of registers, placement, growing your voice in size and range, intonation (pitch), tone color, clarity and consistency. My ultimate goal is to help students sing with musicality and expressiveness.

For piano, we may begin by working on things like hand position, posture, relaxation of the body and then exercises, including scales and chords. We may also incorporate music theory.
After a warm-up, we will focus on chosen music. I like to use music literature that is appropriate to the student's level, which gives enjoyment, and also increases breadth of knowledge and expertise. For beginning students, there are many good series available that I like to use, such as Bastian or Alfred.

Its very important that students feel comfortable in their lessons. I am sensitive, flexible and open to individual likes and dislikes, and any thoughts or concerns you have. These are your lessons and I am committed to helping you get the most out of them!

*** Studio Equipment ***
lessons in large living room with upright piano, mirrors; space for parents to sit/wait; repertoire

*** Specialties ***
Opera, classical, musical theater

About Ginni
You can learn to play piano or sing at any age! Whatever your musical goals are, Ginni will help you to reach them.

Ginni has been teaching piano and singing for 21 years. Whether you are a beginner, an intermediate or advanced she will help you to learn and have fun making music!

Technique is key! As a professional musician Ginni knows the importance of good technique. Great technique gives the performer confidence and the ability to excel.

Ginni's piano and singing students are taught how to use their bodies to perform at their best. Some of the methods that Ginni uses come from
her studies at university, personal study and from watching, listening to and performing with world class musicians. From all of this experience, Ginni developed a proven method for teaching piano and singing that helps students progress quickly and perform with ease.

Performance anxiety can be overcome. Using the tools that Ginni has developed, students relax, focus and enjoy their performing experience.

Reading music is important for pianists and singers. Ginni helps beginning through advanced students to more fully understand written music and quickly sight read it.

It’s important to perform songs that you enjoy. Students help choose supplemental songs that they love whether that be contemporary pop, traditional classical, Broadway, jazz, country or any other genre that they would like to learn.

Ginni’s piano and singing students increase their range, power, agility, control, confidence and expressiveness through technical exercises, scales, arpeggios, applying technique and lots of encouragement! Students grow the more that they share their talents. Students of Ginni’s are invited to participate in recitals, the Arizona Study Program and are guided through auditions, solo and ensemble performances.

Ginni uses the latest technology to help her students, whether by finding a song online for a student to listen to and learn from, transposing a piece on keyboard, improving the sound of an iphone song by plugging it into a speaker system or by using a mic to learn microphone technique.

A century old stand up piano may not be cutting edge technology but, Ginni’s sounds beautiful and her students enjoy playing it. Music is such a gift. So is participating in and watching the growth and progression of others.

Ginni asks her students to remember three things:
Try, Relax and Have Fun!

Ginni is one of the kindest people I've ever met. She is so supportive, but also very realistic with goals and steps to achieve these goals. Her energy and laughter is vibrant and contagious. She's helped me get through my stage fright in the best way I could imagine. I have grown so much from her teaching and kindness. Choose ginni!! I always look forward to seeing her smiling face.

I never thought that I could improve my singing sense I damaged my vocal chords in a chemical accident but Mrs. Ginni taught me how to sing properly and how to use my voice. The results have been spectacular. Since I have been singing with Mrs. Ginni, when I perform people are so impressed that my singing has improved to such a level. I have been invited to sing with band groups and events. Thank you Mrs. Ginni!

The most important is that Ginni is very genuine, nice and professional.
My background is I am 40 yrs old, working professional, muscular big confident dude. I am a ( slightly older :-) ) old dog that loves to learn new tricks and improvements, especially from more experienced professionals. For this reason is why I am paying (paid) to take lessons to learn new techniques and correct any vocal/piano mistakes. I am not sure Ginni knew how to assess the experience and knowledge I was coming to her with and then build a lesson structure from there. During my vocal lessons, She had me spinning around back and forth in the teaching area instead of just standing next to the piano. Almost like there was a nervousness with an adult like me being in the room and not a little person (i.e. kid or young adult). Not once did we sing or just play the piano. No Vocal homework or sheet music to learn for the next class (i.e. Vocal exercises, Song - even as simple as silent night or chopsticks etc.) I realize Rome was not built in one day and that the basics are super important to understand but two 60 min lessons only breathing techniques is a bit much. There is also agility, pitch, tone, Warm up exercises and simply singing for example.
I can see why parents and kids learning to sing would like Ginny. She deserves her high rating, she has a lot of strengths in vocal training.
With that said; I think for anyone who is coming into lessons with experience, seeking to improve and develop from where you left off. It is not Ginni's strong point and there won't be a strong connection. She has her structured way of teaching/learning and there is not much adaption as to what is being brought to the table by the student.

Kristilyn is a great teacher. I have only been playing bassoon for four months and she has taught me several things that have helped me to play better. Even though I have had only one lesson from her I know by her instructions I will improve. I plan on continuing lessons with her and recommend her to anyone needing bassoon lessons.

My son has been taking lessons from Kristilyn for about 6 months now and she has been amazing. My 16 year old is always over scheduled and Kristilyn has been more than willing to work around his schedule when the need has arisen. She has also helped him choose appropriate music for several auditions and practice for the auditions. She has stretched his limits on the bassoon with out frustrating him. We highly recommend Kristilyn as an instructor.

I have been a professional musician for over 35 years and have taught beginning piano and oboe privately and in group classes. For the past 18 years, I've taught for Deer Valley Unified School District. I will make your lessons fun and exciting and teach to your abilities. I also use music apps and games that keep students interested for longer than just sitting at the piano. I believe that all children are inherently musical and the study of music can help a student in all aspects of their life, not just music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In addition to the standard music stands, metronome,
tuners and music, I have digital recording equipment for student's audition recordings. I have helped college bound students get into serious music programs like Arizona State University and the University of Arizona. For students ages 5 to 9 years old, I recommend the recorder as a introductory woodwind before learning the oboe.
