I teach piano in the same manner in which I teach every instrument. First I teach students the rudiments of the instrument. Also I teach them how to read and a bit of music theory. From that point I like to follow the students lead. They bring in songs that they would like to learn, or possibly how to play a certain style like Funk, or Blues, or how to approach a classical sonata. At every point I try to point out general aspects of music that need to be learned from the material that they choose.

About John

Hello, Thanks so much for taking the time to inquire about studying music with me. Music and studying music has always been a passionate experience for me. I have been so blessed with the teachers and fellow musicians in my life. You should realize that your study of music may start with me,

About Kathryn

My experience with Kathy has been great. It's been roughly five months and I learned a lot and I'm also much more confident to sing. Learning the right techniques is crucial. Kathy is extremely patient and she adapts the classes to the student goals and aspirations. English is not my first language and she was also always very respectful and patient in explaining everything twice or maybe three times until I get it.

Kathryn has a terrific demeanor, and provides clear, thoughtful suggestions for technique!

Terrible. Only taught 30 minutes out of 60 minute sessions. On the 3 session I mentioned it and he said he didn’t think my son needed more than that even though we paid for it. Was so disrespectful!!!! Never again!!! Highly unprofessional when asked about why he cut the lessons short. Please don’t leave your kids with this instructor work paying attention. He will get over on you if he thinks you’re not involved.

"Alex definitely knows his stuff. He is a musical genius. He is engaging and makes our lessons fun by incorporating multiple genres to teach theory. I stumbled upon Alex's profile when I was searching for a teacher that would expand my understanding of jazz concepts, blues, gospel and improvisation scales. If you are looking for a down to earth instructor that is knowledgable and patient, then Alex is the person for you.
We had several glitches and technical issues, which is why the review reflects 4 stars."

"Morgan started teaching my daughter beginner piano back in 2016 when she was 5 years old. A funny thing happened about a year into lessons. My wife and I had taken a video of our daughter playing the piano and we showed it to some friends. Turns out these friends know someone on the board of the Juilliard School, and when this person saw the video they reached out to my wife and I and said that they were going to recommend our daughter to a colleague of theirs at the Colburn School here in Los Angeles. So now my daughter is enrolled in a world-class performing arts school lol. Granted, my daughter is very enthusiastic about music and she puts the time in, but Morgan steers the ship in a great way. We're super grateful for this dude."

"I've had a few piano instructors over the years. I preferred them Russian and mean because I thought that would make me a better player. It didn't. Instead I ended up resenting a hobby that was supposed to be fun. Enter Howard. I met him in my adult years and is probably one of the best teachers I've ever met.

There are many reasons why and I'm sure I'll remember more after writing this review...I liked how he made music theory easy to remember. I liked his encouragement. Perhaps what I remember most is his kindness and compassion. Truly a gentle human being who wants only the best for his students and wants them to progress to the best of their ability. You would be lucky to train with him."

"I completed eight lessons with Jason and was very satisfied with the musical lessons received. I learned much about the piano, chords, patterns, and theory. On the eighth lesson I received a guitar tutorial and was very impressed with his playing and teaching. I highly recommend Jason as an instructor for the musical instruments that he teaches.

"Katarina is a wonderful piano teacher! Always professional and very knowledgable. She is very patient and caring with the kids making the lessons enjoyable for them. It's nice to have a piano teacher that the kids really like and look forward to seeing! My 11 year old daughter and 8 year old son have been taking lessons from her for about a year. I can definitely hear the great progress they have made since they began. Katarina not only teaches them how to play but also teaches them music theory which is something that I love. She is an A+ teacher!"

"My son and I have been taking piano lessons from Corinne for almost a year. She is a lovely person, extremely patient and dedicated to teaching. She genuinely cares about her students. Corinne is quite gifted working with young children as well as adults. I took piano lessons as a child, and she immediately assessed where to resume instruction. She took a totally different approach with my six year old son, who had no experience. Even though he had just started to read and write in school, she used a very understandable, age- appropriate method with him. He is now playing the piano while reading basic music at the same time. She knows exactly how much and how hard to gently push, in order to encourage improvement each week. Corinne is also very professional, dependable, punctual and takes the time you spend with her seriously. I highly recommend Corinne as a piano teacher. We enjoy our lessons immensely."

Learning to Read Lead-Sheet Symbols

As a vocal coach, I often need to accompany my students on the piano as they practice their music. Without adequate time to practice or the necessary skills as an accompanist, this usually means that I have to fake my way through new music to the best of my ability. Fortunately, I can fairly successfully “fake it” on the piano with many pieces. This is because I know how to quickly read lead-sheet symbols, which are commonly provided with popular sheet music. Lead-sheet symbols, or ch …
