I teach piano in the same manner in which I teach every instrument. First I teach students the rudiments of the instrument. Also I teach them how to read and a bit of music theory. From that point I like to follow the students lead. They bring in songs that they would like to learn, or possibly how to play a certain style like Funk, or Blues, or how to approach a classical sonata. At every point I try to point out general aspects of music that need to be learned from the material that they choose.

I found Ricardo's lessons to be engaging, mentally stimulating, challenging, and fun. When I was playing blues piano, he would jam along with me on the guitar to help me get better at playing with others, and not just solo. He did the same thing for me when teaching me on the guitar as well, it was a blast! He pushed me to be a better musician in general - I came to him with a very narrow focus and he broadened my musical horizons. Thank you Ricardo for helping me become a better piano player, vocalist, and guitar player!"

This instructor has a solid foundation in music theory which can help students of all skill levels and instrument choice...including voice. I have already benefited from her expertise on both piano and voice as instruments, as well as general music concepts like voice leading, use of scale, tonal variation and dynamic. Very easy to understand and work with. I have no reservations about recommending this instructor."

I'm glad I found a teacher as patient, friendly and knowledgable as Laurel. I've been taking lessons with her for almost a year. She tailors the sessions to my spooky interests and encourages me to push my abilities.
When we began I had barely touched a piano in my life. Now I'm able to read sheet music, recognize relative pitches and play a list of my favorite songs with independent hand movement.
I'd recommend Laurel to anyone who wants to learn piano regardless of age or skill level."
