I enjoy working with most of my students, especially those who practice hard. I find all students unique and they response differently to my requests or questions. I feel that very often I need to react spontaneously to their responses. For the beginners I mainly focus on reading musical notes and learning correct rhythmic values. With beginners who haven’t played the piano at all I teach finger exercises written finger numbers only. Then I use Piano Adventures theory, lesson, technique and artistry, performance, and popular music books. Although Alfred’s and Bastien’s methods are well known, I prefer Piano Adventures because they introduce the coordination of right and left hand in more progressive manner. At the beginning the following will be covered.
• Postures at the piano, finger numbers, high and low on the keyboard
• Music alphabet, Intervals
• Musical form, Dynamic marks
• Staff; line notes, space notes
• Time signature, accent mark, legato, staccato
• Basic chords ...

Colin
I had years of experience playing but knew little about theory which is why I started lessons. Lucian is incredibly knowledgeable and learning theory from him has been a valued learning experience. My initial goal was to learn and blend a style with my own unique musical preferences and tastes which we were able to achieve in what seemed like record time. He also had me playing a song I never thought I’d be able to play after only a few weeks. I would highly recommend Lucian regardless of experience and familiarity with music and guitar

Lucian is a great guy and very knowledgeable about all things jazz. Enjoyed my lessons with him and can recommend for those wanting to get into jazz.

Ryan Is a great piano teacher who caters his teaching style to his students preferences and strengths. I have been taking piano lessons with him for about 7 years and he keeps me very engaged and motivated. I would highly recommend him for all levels of students.

Ryan is a wonderful piano and music teacher. He is enthusiastic, talented and organized. I continue to learn from him and apply his wealth of knowledge.

Ryan has been my children's piano teacher for more than 6 years. He is enthusiastic, talented, and loves teaching. My older son started playing piano because his Grandma was a very good concert pianist in Germany, and my husband wanted him to learn how to play. According to my son, the only reason he kept learning was Ryan: his way of teaching, his talent and his inspiration.

Learning piano should be EASY and FUN! I don't want my students to be floundering for what to do, so we train the ear to pick up on rhythms and notes right away. Meanwhile, we follow along in an instruction book to learning the necessary components of reading and interpreting music.

You can learn piano at ANY age. I have worked with students aged 3 through 89; beginners at both ends of the spectrum. My delight is teaching others music and serving the world in this way. If you are on the fence, send me a note so I can help you determine if we might be a good fit.

Take advantage of my lowered prices during the COVID-19 pandemic. I wish you good health and wellness during this time! And I sincerely hope you'll consider learning piano!

"When you first meet Tony you sense immediately his passion and love for music; this comes through in his teaching style and attitude. Our 2 daughters (ages 13 and 11) have been taking lessons from Tony for about 3 months and we are definitely seeing improvements in their abilities. He has a knack for challenging them without them really knowing that's what he's doing--he pushes (gently) on them to reach their potential. Our girls enjoy taking lessons from Tony and look forward to seeing him each week, they practice without being asked (most days) and look forward to learning more interesting and challenging music. I would absolutely recommend Tony as an instructor for children or adults."

"Very lucky and blessed to have found Judy. She's a gem for students hungry to learn Black gospel piano. Had 1st lesson today. Assessed my playing and sight reading ability, and we went straight to business on learning chord / music theory, and my strong desire to play church piano. She also showed me how to "gospelize" a few songs, for starting out. Not only did I feel comfortable and @ ease with her, but she teaches music theory in layman terms. Looking forward to more future lessons with Judy! Go to her if you truly want to learn gospel piano!"

5 Jazz Piano Exercises for Beginners

Do you want to sharpen your jazz piano skills? Below, piano teacher Jason B. shares five jazz piano exercises you can do to bring out your inner jazz pianist... Jazz is one of the few piano styles that allows total creative freedom. Expert jazz pianists reshape not only the rhythms and melody of a song, but they are also given a solo section that allows them to create new melodies on the spot. While this creative freedom is liberating, it also can be overwhelming when you're just sta …
