Traditional piano lessons, all styles, complex music education

About Anastasia
After Anastasia’s Carnegie Hall Debut in 2006, the New York Concert Review wrote: "For a critic, hearing a new pianist with a truly warm, luscious tone is like breathing in the scent of jasmine blooming - a pleasure to be recalled again and again - and so I'm happy to report that from the first note she touched at her Weill Hall recital, Anastasia S. was a genuine pleasure to listen to. Every piece, every measure, every note - no matter how complex the texture, no matter how many strands of melody and accompaniment - was wrapped in a halo of golden tone..."

Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Anastasia S. gave her first solo recital at the age of eleven. Ms. S. is a graduate of the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg, Germany, and holds a Master’s and a Doctorate degrees from The Hartt School at the University of Hartford.

In 2003 Anastasia received
First Prize in the 14th International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Rome, Italy, and was awarded a Special Prize. In year 2006 Ms. S. won the Puigcerda International Piano Competition in Spain. In the same year she recorded the complete works for piano and orchestra by Balakirev with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra for NAXOS records. In 2008 Ms. S. received the “Outstanding Award”, which granted her a return engagement to give a second solo recital at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In 2010 Anastasia was awarded a Special Prize for the best interpretation of French composition at the International Piano Competition “Parnassos” in Mexico. Her solo recital in 2008 at the Myra Hess Concert Series in Chicago was broadcast live on WFMT Radio, in Internet, and on the TV-Station “Channel 25“; Anastasia was invited to play there again in 2011. Her career continues with numerous appearances as a soloist both in concertos with orchestra, in solo recitals, and in chamber music concerts in Ukraine, Germany, Macedonia, Italy, Switzerland, France, Russia, USA, and Japan. Anastasia’s recent engagements included a performance at the Bolshoi Hall of Moscow Conservatory as well as solo appearances with orchestras in the United States and Germany featuring concerti by Prokofieff, Mozart, Grieg, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Stravinsky. In 2014 her new CD "Music of Russian-Jewish composers for oboe and piano" was released. Currently, Anastasia is working on her two new solo CD's for Centaur Records.

In 2013, Anastasia was granted the Extraordinary Abilities in the Arts permanent US residence, as one of a small percentage of those who have risen to the top in their field of endeavor. Anastasia served as an Adjunct Faculty in Piano and Chamber Music at the Hartt School, and is currently on faculty of the New England Conservatory in Boston.

I offer scholarships for advanced level students upon request.

As an adult beginner, I chose Anastasia for more personalized instruction, especially in technique, after learning the basics through community center group lessons. I have not continued only because another equally well-qualified instructor who lives close by, within walking distance, has become available. I am very pleased with the lessons and pointers that I have received. Anastasia is professional, encouraging, and friendly. An especially helpful part of her instruction is the set of comments and suggestions that she writes down to guide practice between lessons. If the neighbor instructor does not work out, I’ll be back.

Piano is one of the most beloved instruments and now it's time for YOU to learn how to play! We'll get you reading music and your hands working together in no time!

About Stephanie
Hello, and thank you for your interest!

My name is Stephanie, I am a teaching-artist from El Paso, Texas. I currently reside, perform and teach in the Boston and greater Boston area.

I am a recent graduate of The New England Conservatory of Music with a Masters and Graduate Diploma in Saxophone Performance. I received my Bacherlors in Music Education from New Mexico State University.

“A teaching artist, by definition, is a two-career professional: a working artist and a working educator. As a working artist is they are involved in an ongoing process of discovery, problem solving, discipline and refinement of skills in their discipline. As a working educator, it is essential that the artist is also developing a knowledge base and skills to be an effective partner in education. Achieving a meaningful balance between these two prof
essions, whereby one feeds the other, is an ongoing process that requires a deepening awareness for the teaching artist of what their teaching brings to their art and what their art teaches them about learning.”

I am devoted and dedicated to helping find each of my students' strengths, weaknesses and style of learning. Once I have identified these traits, I am able to develop lessons and repertoire that helps each students become the most efficient learner and best musician they can be.

I pride myself in creating a fun and safe learning environment in which I establish a firm musical foundation for my students. Lessons include: scales, etudes, articulation, dynamic and sight reading exercises, standard repertoire, recording and analyzing performances, music history lessons, and exploration of the sounds, genres and artists of saxophone/flute/clarinet/piano.

Simultaneously, my students cultivate many other skills while learning how to play their instrument. Students enhance their fine motor skills and ability to memorize, students increase their overall self-confidence and become self-sufficient and creative problem solvers. I am passionate about educating and empowering my students and I enjoy connecting with a wide array of musicians of all ages, playing levels and backgrounds.

Feel free to contact me to inquire about lessons, I hope to hear from you soon!

Stephanie is a patient, knowledgeable, enthusiastic educator and collaborator who loves to perform and teach. I had the honor of working with her for nearly four years while we pursued similar degrees at New Mexico State University. She consistently brought a level of maturity and preparedness beyond her age to our rehearsals and practices. If I was limited to only one word to describe her, it would be "professional".

Lessons include basic note reading through advanced music theory and piano technique. 1st lesson will be an evaluation of skills and knowledge to determine level and curriculum.

About Janet
Music is every person's birthright. It's a way of knowing, a way of being. Music is multi-cultural. Music learning will open up pathways in your brain that will make it easier to learn other subjects. It provides a way of expressing yourself and an outlet for your joy and pain.

What aspects of music would you like to learn? I have taught piano and music theory for 25 years and Music Together classes for families with young children for 15 years. Currently singing A cappella, 4 part harmony with Women of Note chorus and All 4 WoN quartet. Presently studying advanced music theory and arranging as a candidate of Harmony Inc.'s contest judging program.

I have many years of experience teaching children and adults of all skill levels and abilities. Students with autism, attention deficit disorder, sensory issues and other learning d
ifferences are welcome and treated with patience, kindness and respect. I have extensive experience with this population and have cultivated many resources and relationships with experts that guide me in teaching individuals with special needs. Every child in my program will be taught as an individual with his/her own unique learning style. Developmentally appropriate techniques will be used along with teaching strategies that cater to each child's personality and learning temperament.

Teenagers are busy people who juggle so many responsibilities. In addition to teaching their lessons and helping them to grow musically, I will provide them with practice strategies that will fit into their hectic schedules.

I also enjoy teaching adults of every skill level. There is no rush, no stress. Just the pride and excitement of learning something new. So if learning to play piano or sing has always been on your bucket list, let's tackle it together and make it happen!

Janet loves music, loves teaching, and loves people. You will not find a more dedicated and compassionate teacher of the arts. In the 14 years that I have known Janet, music, teaching, and family has been her priority. Her skills continuously grow as she has explored music in many different settings such as early childhood music, piano accompaniment, and choir singing.

My daughter, who is now 23, began her piano instruction at a very young age with Janet. Janet was the first one to instill good habits, finger positions, musical attitudes, and a genuine enjoyment of playing for her. She still loves to play her fast classical pieces, which I'm sure Janet recalls fondly.

Thank you Janet, for being the first to guide my daughter to blossom her natural talent. You are a beautiful part of the tapestry of our lives :)

My teaching method focuses mainly on development of technique, interpretation and sound. I encourage my students to develop the ability to think and come up with their own musical ideas since I believe that spoon feeding everything hinders the growth of artistic sense. For more advanced students, I generally look at the music from their perspective and help them bring the most out of what they want their playing to represent.

About Nipun
I'm a student from India currently pursuing a Master's degree in Piano Performance at Longy School of Music of Bard College.
Although I've spent most of my time up until now studying music, I have also had the opportunity to teach students of different ages. If there's one thing that I've learnt from my experiences so far, it is that there's no definite maximum age to start learning piano at. The only requirements for one to be able to learn to play any instrument are patience and the will to learn and work hard.
I focus mainly on helping students develop a healthy, efficient technique and good interpretative skills.

My lessons will be personally tailored to your abilities and desires. If you are looking to learn a certain type of music, I will work with you to learn the style, technique and feel of that style. It is important that you are enjoying the music you are learning. It is about you and what you love!

I am trained in Classical, Jazz, musical theatre, and pop as well. I also am a vocalist and am happy to work with you on playing and singing while accompanying yourself. I can also teach you to sight read!

About Anastasia
Hello! My name is Anastasia, and I love music, especially piano and voice! I've been playing since I was 3, when I first begged my mom to let me take lessons. Music has been a part of my life forever. I have a CT Music Education Certification and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Connecticut College. There, I focused on piano, organ and harpsichord, performing my senior recital on all three instruments. I also performed in the Jazz Ensemble for all four years, while also music directing cabarets and music productions through the student run theatre group on campus, Wig and Candle. I also assistant music directed three out of four college musical productions.

In my spare time, I music direct musicals as often as I can, as well as playing pit piano in musicals in the area. I have worked with adults, professionals, and kids of all ages. I h
ave also enjoyed performing as a fifer in the Middlesex County Volunteers, traveling to Edinburgh Scotland this August to perform in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo with the corps. I also am a composer, and actively play folk music with my fiancé. I believe that continuing one's own music education is very important, and learning new kinds of music regularly is crucial to every musician's development. My current project is being a part of the Celtic Music Ensemble at Club Passim in Harvard Sq, where my folk repertoire continues to develop. I have also attended Maine Fiddle Camp in the summer.

Since I was 18, I realized that my passion was teaching and working with kids. They are bright, interested and creative. I really enjoy seeing the process of a student's development over time, and love working with people to help them gain strength and confidence. Music is always interesting because you can always find new things to learn about; new songs, new pieces, new composers to listen to, new top hits to hear and love... it never gets old!

I can teach you how to read notes, to understand rhythms, to sight read (this means that you can sit down and read any music and play it almost perfectly on the first try!), how to accompany other musicians like vocalists or violinists, how to accompany yourself while you sing your favorite tunes, how to play jazz, folk, classical, or to help you find your style if you're not sure yet. I encourage you to ask me lots of questions!

I teach out of my cozy apartment in Arlington, and I really look forward to meeting you and helping you to become the musician you've always hoped to be.

With over a decade and a half of performing experience and a teaching history that spans almost ten years, Joe works with all levels from “can’t read a note” to collegiate. Saxophone and piano students will find a patient and encouraging tutor who teaches not just rote mechanics, but musicianship and a love for music. Composition and theory students will find a keen eye for details and attention to developing their unique voice through music. Whatever their studies, Joe encourages a commitment to both craft and artistry.

About Joseph
I'm an award-winning conductor, composer, saxophonist, and pianist with over a decade and a half of performing experience and a teaching experience of almost ten years. My focus is on developing not just technical facility but musicianship and love for music. Whether you're working on an instrument or writing music, my intention is for you to develop the ability to express your unique identity in performance. Whatever your studies, I encourage commitment to both craft and artistry.

As a saxophonist, I was winner of the 2010 Beatrice Herrmann Young Artist Solo Competition, was twice a national finalist in the MTNA Young Artist Solo Competition, and won the University of Puget Sound's Concerto/Aria Competition. In 2012, while playing with the Puget Sound Saxophone Quartet, our group took 3rd Prize in the MTNA National Chamber Music Competi
tion and the First Prize in the Seattle Ladies' Musical Club Chamber Music Competition. Our performance on Classical King FM was syndicated by the National American Public Media's Performance Today.

As a composer, my works have been heard across the country, including my work award-winning Babel, which was performed by the Donald Sinta Saxophone Quartet in 2014 at Carnegie Hall. That work is soon to be released on the DSQ's debut album, Collider. Recent commissions have included works for the Departure Duo and the ensemble Latitude 49.

Called "quite musical and effective" by Classical Voice North Carolina, I bring experience as a conductor and pianist in both the symphonic and operatic repertoire. My work and studies have brought me from Seattle to Pittsburgh to Boston, to Spain to Germany and Romania. I hold a Masters Degree in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Michigan, and an undergraduate in Music Education from the University of Puget Sound.

Whatever your studies, you get all of my experience, distilled to what's most beneficial to you. I can't wait to get started on our musical journey together!

I took a saxophone lesson with Joseph Bozich after a few years away from my instrument. Thanks to his teaching, I experienced significant improvement in a short amount of time. Joseph is a versatile teacher, and tailors his language and instruction to fit the needs of his student. My background is in classical voice, and Joseph was quick to highlight parallels between singing and playing the saxophone that informed and enhanced my playing. A phenomenal player, Joseph can convey concepts through demonstration or simply through clear and accessible language. At the end of the lesson, I left with several tools and concrete exercises I could practice to continue the improvement I had experienced with Joseph. As patient as he is capable, Joseph has the unique ability to work with players of every skill level, and I wholeheartedly recommend him to any saxophonist looking to make significant musical and technical gains in their playing.
