My approach is fun, simple, and easy to understand. I focus on getting a strong foundation and excellent first experience with music. The child will be given a lesson and theory book to work from, but will also be encouraged to play music they personally like. This keeps the child motivated to play and adds an element of fun! These songs can then be used in our recitals, for auditions, or put in their personal repertoire book.

I have been teaching all levels of piano for many years, from beginners to advanced and professional. I hold a Doctorate in Piano Performance, an Artist Diploma from the Mozarteum Academy in Austria, and a Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance. I am especially strong in teaching technique, sightreading, and repertoire. I have also had extensive Suzuki teacher training. My students excel in competitive and non-competitive events including CM.
I have been teaching piano professionally for 16 years. I have extensive experience teaching students of all ages, as young as 3 years old. With me, you will learn all of the skills, techniques, and theory required to become a great pianist!
I achieved Grade 8 Distinction Piano when I was 14 years old, with one of the highest marks in my country (I'm from the UK), with a score of 142 out of 150. I went on to develop my own theatre show with live piano and have toured internationally as a vocalist and pianist. I'm great with beginners and intermediate players, I love building confidence and really helping to develop great technique and methods. Young children are my speciality, my lessons are a lot of fun and I incorporate games and other small boosters to help children understand the value of learning something new. I love classical music, and love giving a great grounding in music reading and understanding of music theory. I've also taught many adults and older children and piano is a fantastic instrument to learn when you're older - there is no age limit! Learning is for everyone. I also teach Grades 1 - 8 with the Royal College of Music (ABRSM) exams. This is the British exam board, and truly the gold standard of piano exams, you even get a certificate with a royal stamp of approval. Kids love this! It's a great way to incentivise and see progress.
I began classical piano instruction in 1960 and took private lessons for ten years before branching out into all the other styles of music. I have taught, recorded and performed professionally since 1978, and will show you proper hand and finger technique, music theory, how to read notation and chord charts/symbols, and equally as important teach you how to play by ear. I teach all ages, all styles and all levels of piano, and will teach you how to have fun with it all along the way!
While teaching classical piano, I always try to incorporate the material that students like the most: Holiday songs, Broadway melodies and favorite cartoon songs. All of this definitely adds to the enjoyment of learning how to play. Besides having two recitals a year, I encourage students to play in front of their peers at school, to always play for their families and to participate in various competitions and festivals around the St.Louis area.
