I love playing piano and I want you to as well!
Music is a fun way to express yourself! Only it’s a little difficult if you’re trying to do it on your own. Trying to sit down and read music can take forever, and there’s a lot of words or symbols that might be confusing. All of that might discourage you to continue.
KEEP GOING! I want to help you understand what all this means so you can play the songs you wanna play.
Things you’ll learn
-How to identify notes on a piano
-How to read notes on a staff (sheet music)
-How to play scales
-How to play arpeggios
-How to play chords
-How to read chords
-How to count and play rhythms
-How to play songs by ear
-How to play songs by reading music
-How to play music and HAVE FUN!

I use a variety of lesson books and curriculum based off a student's age and musical interests. For younger students (ages 7-10), I use books from the Piano Adventure series which provide colorful illustrations and fun games/activities to accompany their piano learning.
For older students (11+), adults, and even advanced younger students looking for an extra challenge, I use the Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course series that lead the students through an accelerated learning course and into note reading and being able to play both hands at a comfortable pace.
My main focus and priorities with teaching piano are the following: music reading, musical interests, and a musician's physical and mental/emotional health.

I come from a jazz background in piano, so the focus for my class is more on understanding the instrument as an extension of your hands. While many classical pianists focus on the written music and technique, I will focus more on using the piano as a tool for creation and for expression. Technique will still be involved as it is important to develop good habits and will make playing easier, but my ultimate goal is to allow each student to better express their artistry. For beginners I start with scales and simple progressions, then lead to larger topics on theory that will help understand the instrument and improvise.
About Aashray
I am a professional pianist/keyboardist, songwriter, and recording artist. I graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Arts in Music & Technology and am pursuing my MFA as a Performer-Composer at CalArts in Valencia, CA. With my diverse background in both the technical

4-5 months in, I can confidently say that I'm loving him as my keyboard instructor! He personally encouraged me to practice using the music that I love, while blending it with his teaching to exactly point out on how one needs to approach these things. He's been really flexible in terms of scheduling during this time and that has also allowed me to come to class when I'm at 100%.
I don't know if my keyboard abilities are next level compared to when I started (it has improved), but I'm certainly enjoying this process!

"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." - Pablo Picasso According to the 2008 NAMM Global Report on Music, 82% of adults who don't play a musical instrument wish they did. It's a funny thing for a musician like me to meet different people--a physician or an attorney, for example--and hear her say, "Gee, I always wished that I could do that." On November 11, 2013, the New York Times ran a story about some very interesting neuroscientific studies. O …
