In piano lessons, you will learn all the basics of music reading and music theory. I like to give people knowledge that they can use and expand on in their own time. You will play a variety of pieces and have the opportunity to choose music that you enjoy! I use the Faber Piano Adventures series as a guidepost for learning. *I teach beginner and early intermediate piano only, as piano is a secondary instrument for me personally. If you want to learn to play for enjoyment, learn basic theory and sightreading, I can absolutely help you! If you are looking to learn competition-level piano, I might not be right for you :)*

About Monica

***Prospective students, please note: My availability is very limited as I have a full studio of students! Please check my availability calendar before signing up for lessons. Thanks!*** My first priority is instilling a love for the arts into any student I teach. No matter what the skill

So far so good. Very patient as mistakes after mistake was made. Corrected quite a few mistakes I was making so that my habits would be good habits from the start. Let me talk to myself as I messed up and complimented me when I was on the right track.

Great lesson! Thanks!

complete novice; adult student. First lesson very relaxed. Excellent blend through-out lesson of questions and information my goals and background as well as instructor's goals for me and his background. First "technical" part of lesson was manageable and care taken by Lyle to make sure I understood what was being presented. I left the first lesson feeling this would be a good fit between instructor and student

My love for the piano started at the age of thirteen. I majored in Music Education at Frostburg State University, and studied piano under various professors. I have eleven years experience in teaching children and adults the piano. I hope to convey a love of music during lessons. Playing the piano shouldn't be stressful. It should be rewarding, relaxing, and fun.

About Jocelyn

I received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Frostburg State University. The piano was my main instrument of study. I have taught piano lessons to people of various ages. I believe that anyone can learn how to play the piano. Music is an experience that can help boost one's self

After assessing a student's abilities and needs, I tailor their instruction according to what best fits their individual personalities and capabilities. I stress proper technique, beauty of tone, rhythmic accuracy, and expressive musicality. Understanding of music theory is intertwined with the musical experience. Playing in ensemble is encouraged; I play lots of duets with my students.
The atmosphere presented to my students is always casual and friendly. I take care to make them feel relaxed and uninhibited. I relate to them as whole persons, not just music students. I strongly emphasize their enjoyment of the music and my expression of pleasure in their successes. I consider it a privilege to nurture others in the experience of music!

About Diane

I have been playing the flute since fifth grade, a long time! I have taught flute privately for about twenty years. My second degree is an AA in Music from Grossmont College, near San Diego, CA. As a flutist I have been a member of both the La Jolla Civic Orchestra and the Grossmont Symphony Orch

"Darrell is doing a great job getting me back to my piano journey (after 20 years!). The exercises and theory he is teaching me have helped me getting a deeper understanding of music and looking at piano from a different perspective. I've learned a lot just after two lessons. The daily practice was challenging and fun. Looking forward to my upcoming sessions."

"Heather is the very best of the three piano teachers I have had! I have made more progress in the last year with Heather as my teacher than I had in the two previous years with other teachers. Although I am an older student and take longer to learn, she has been patient and supportive. She never makes me feel incompetent, in fact, she is extremely complimentary of my efforts. Her positive attitude makes me want to work harder and to play better. And she is such a nice person to be around - gentle, polite, and friendly. I am having a great experience and highly recommend her for anyone who is learning to play or to improve their playing."

"The first lesson was successful. My particular background in piano is unique, and my needs are atypical as well. I thought Thomas assessed my abilities, lack of abilities, and goals well and quickly. He started me on a different perspective on looking at music (reading the staff) that seems very helpful. I'm encouraged."

3 Reasons Pianists Should Be Playing Hanon Exercises Daily

Hanon exercises: they might not be the most fun, but they can make a big impact on your progress as you're learning how to play piano! Read on as Saint Augustine, FL teacher Heather L. explains why...   Sure, you could buy a technique book, a book of warm-ups, and a book of "finger-strengthening exercises," and work with all three every day. And some of you may be advised by your teachers to do so, based on your past playing experience and future goals. But if you're a middle-school …
