I give a lot of importance to getting to know the students. Each student has different goals and plans in mind that knowing them makes the lessons so much more interesting, motivating and interactive. Students are in a road to discovery. I try to do my best in helping them in this path of discovery by giving them the tools they need which are learning the techniques and having fun and enjoying the art of playing the piano.
There is always so much joy and excitement in learning to play a new piece. I hope everyone can experience this.

About Nahal
Music is the food for the soul. It inspires and influences people whether they are musicians or not.

I started playing the piano when I was 10. My parents took me for piano lessons to introduce me to music and see whether I’d like it. Well, I loved it! I have been playing since then and music has become part of my life. I have been taking piano lessons with 3 different private instructors. My recent private piano teacher is a student of Iran’s most well-known pianist and composer, Emanuel Malek Aslanian. My focus area is classical piano music. Some of my favorite composers include Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Mozart, Schubert and Bach. However, I enjoy music from all over the globe and love discovering new musical styles and pieces I can play !

I have been teaching piano for over 6 years. I love teaching and I love piano. I have been
fortunate enough to combine these two to be able to create a loving and inspiring environment for my students to learn and discover their talents. I also love working with people of different age groups. When I teach, I always learn a lot from my students and I always find so much excitement in working with people.

As for my education, I have a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from UCSD. The cool thing is that music and Mathematics are totally related. Music Theorists often use mathematics to understand music. I have realized my educational background has helped me to understand music more in depth and improve my technical piano playing skills.

I am originally Persian. I speak both English and Farsi.

I am really delighted and look forward to meeting you.

All levels and all ages as well as performance preparation

About Alex
I am passionate about sharing with you all the knowledge that I've obtained from over 45 years of of studying piano with some of the best teachers available in the country. I will help you to both discover that sound image that is only yours and then to work on how to make that image come alive for you at the keyboard. I promise that working together will be a fun and inspiring adventure into that most expressive form of communications which is Music. One of the best ways to judge a teacher is by the way he plays. I am a performing teacher, still studying, and will be giving my second solo recital at The Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad in February 2013 and will be playing masterpieces by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin and Liszt. You are, of course, invited to the recital or it would be my pleasure to play for you at my studi
o or your home. Looking forward to sharing and learning more about our craft by spending some quality musical time with one another.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am considered to be a easy going guy but it is my job to be sure that value is obtained from investment, so I will let my students know when they are not completing their reasonable assignments. That said, I can't wait to share with you all the joys I feel about teaching. I didn't know anything about the piano at age 21 but seven years later I gave my Senior Recital and earned my BA degree with a Piano Major so I know how difficult it can be to start lessons as well as being able to advance at any level. We will learn how to understand basic theory to include notation, intervals, chord structure, scales and arpeggios and well as to learn or improve your ability to sight read without having to continually look down at your hands. All technical problems will be understood and solved so that you will be able to play those pieces you love at your ability level. Being able to play with a firm knowledge of a composer's life, his composition style and historical background is a sure sign of one that has studied with a fine teacher. It is my hopes that that teacher will be me. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I have experience with all ages from 4 to 65. Each person is different, but age has nothing to do with someone's desire to learn the piano.

About Joan
I started piano lessons when I was about 6 years old. I graduated from the University of Arizona in Tucson with a BA in Music Education. After moving to San Diego, I spent the next 20 years or so being a wife and mom and raising 3 kids, one of them a special needs child due to a drowning accident. I've been a church pianist and choir director for almost 30 years and worked at a charter school in Lakeside as a choir teacher and Music History class teacher. I started teaching piano about 10 years ago on the recommendation of a friend and fell in love with it! I have taught kids from the ages of 6 to 16, but would welcome adult students.
I enjoy and can teach many different musical styles on the piano. If you like classical, we can do classical. If you like pop or Broadway, we can do pop or Broadway. If you like contemporary Christi
an, we can do that. I'm a good sight reader and can help students who are interested learn how. I can also teach improvisation using chords with or without a melody line for students who'd like to learn. I encourage older students to bring in music they are interested in learning. The sky's the limit!

*** Lesson Details ***
I think lessons should be made fun for the student and should be personal time just for them to participate in an activity that they enjoy doing. Parents are always welcome during lessons. With beginners I stress learning to read the notes and other musical notation-dynamics markings, tempo instructions, rests, etc.. I like to use the Dozen A Day exercises as well and, depending on the proficiency level of the student, the Hanon series of exercises for flexibility. I like to use the Alfred Method lesson books for those just getting started. They have good pictures and easy to understand instructions for younger students. They also offer simple Theory instruction books as well. They also have some good adult instruction books. I also like to use a reward system with my students; younger kids can choose from a simple prize box and older ones can receive gift cards from McDonald's, Dairy Queen, etc.. Everyone needs a little reward in life! I like all students to keep a practice log (younger ones can be helped in this by parents) to help with accountability and to see how progress is being made. I also like to have a student recital at the end of the school year, usually in the month of May. The purpose is so that students can meet each other and see what others are working on. I've found that the students themselves are often the best encouragers and inspiration for each other!

Learn your favorite songs and riffs! Coordination, singing and playing, music reading, improvisation. The foundation of music lessons is developing good ears and good time feel (groove). These are skills that all the best musicians have. That, along with some study of piano basics will cover about half of our lesson time. The other half should be devoted to the kind of music that inspired you to look me up. My hope is that you will become a well rounded musician and pianist, and that we'll both discover new music :-)

I also enjoy preparing for jam sessions, auditions, and competing for placement in school ensembles and scholarships.

About Jordan
*Experienced teacher and professional musician...
-Has performed with:
Great Good Fine Ok, Leonard Patton, Gilbert Castellanos, Francisco Torres, 10,000 Maniacs, The Mighty Untouchables, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess, Gaslamp Quarter Jazz Orchestra, and many more.
-Recorded on national tv ads for Dreyer's, KFC, Coca-Cola.
-Over 6,000 private lessons taught to over 300 students.
-More than five years of teaching experience in classroom settings: K-5 general music, middle and high school band, under graduate music history, directing college music ensembles
-Students have included: ages 4-96, beginners with no experience, undergraduate music majors, scholarship award winners, members of the San Diego Youth Symphony program, many locals in San Diego, and online students from around the world :)

My mission is to provide a positive musical experience for all students. For some this includes rigorous preparation for an audition of some kind, for others it may be an introduction to music fundamentals to foster better listening skills and greater artistic appreciation. All students will be challenged to improve their listening, timing, and technique. All students will learn to play songs that they love.

Recommendations for best results: make a three-month commitment to weekly lessons, and work up to 30 minutes of daily practice. This formula guarantees results. Bring your instrument, music books, and a binder with sheet protectors ☺

*Scheduling policy: to avoid being charged for a lesson - One week notice is required to cancel, skip, or "roll over" a lesson. 24 hours notice to reschedule (based on availability).

To continue weekly lessons, students must maintain at least 90% attendance or the time slot may be forfeited.

Good Luck!

Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a featured soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of the legendary trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. It was this that lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.

While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.

In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. Jordan, along with the rest of the aggressively funky cover band SuperMagnetic, were the grand prize winner of the 2010 Viejas Ultimate Music Challenge 4. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. In 2013, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.

On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

Everybody's path is different, but we must start with a strong foundation in the fundamentals. After we start to establish some technique on your instrument we will explore music that suits you from a practical stand point in your development, and very importantly, stylistically. On a day to day basis, piano is the instrument Francesca finds herself playing piano the most often. With an original approach to learning to play piano, she will have you playing your favorite songs day one.

About Francesca
Alumnae of CSULAs music department with an emphasis in classical voice and guitar, Francesca's skills cover a vast ocean of information. With a background and formal education in opera and "the classics", Francesca is equally comfortable on stage at The House of Blues as she is at Disney Hall.

Francesca started teaching music at the early age of 16 with great success. She has honed her skills both in the private studio and in the classroom. Having served as musical faculty the California Music Academy, Cornelia Connelly High School, Pasadena Saturday Music Conservatory, and East Los Angeles College, having led choirs of 70+ high school girls and sung before sold out audiences of thousands of screaming fans, having toured 4 continents singing both classical repertoire and performing in commercial rock bands, having sung for president
s and princes, Francesca has high expectations and is skilled in helping her students reach their goals.

Now performing in the Donald Brinager Singers, a studio choir for-hire, Francesca can often be seen performing with orchestras throughout Southern California. While mentoring through her award-winning teaching studio, Francesca also manages to perform several showcases featuring her original music with her amazing back-up ensemble.

With a constant effort to maintain a professional studio learning environment and with a focus on reading skills and solid technique, Francesca's students enjoy lessons packed with information and light-heartedness. The one on one experience you will have the moment you walk thru the door promises to be unmatched. Francesca's students can be seen on major television networks, radio stations and performing around town in various projects. With a passion to give back, Francesca reserves a small number of spots in her schedule for the youngsters and seniors of her community. She teaches beginning through advanced guitar, piano, and voice.

A Note From Francesca:

My official bio is listed below, but perhaps more important than the things I have done are the things that I am doing. I am now approaching my 15th year of teaching. I love to teach! I carry a minimum of 30 students, but have carried more then 80 at one time, and have never once complained. My waiting list cycles based on my performance schedule and recording schedule. If you don't see a time that works for you, feel free to reach out and see if we can find something that works, as an artist, my schedule can be quite full but also quite flexible. I love my students, I get to do what I love all day and I am sure it shows. I have a blast discovering new ways to experience music with "my kids." I call all of my students kids even though most of my studio consists of young adults. I try to have a young air in my classes at all times as it just makes the process so much more fun for everyone.

I've seen it all in through years: kids, adults, beginners and advanced students. I am personally very interested in being the most versatile musician possible and I love being able to share my knowledge with my students. We can study anything and everything from Classical Guitar to Electric Guitar Shredding; from Opera to Kelly Clarkson; from Tchaikovsky to Little Richard! I love getting students to dabble in little bits of all genres, often getting even the most skeptical student singing and playing comfortably in a matter of just a few weeks. My students will be able to read music for their favorite tunes and understand how to improvise from the start. Once you come in, you'll be hooked. You will have fun because I am having fun!

I encourage all of my students to share their favorite music with me. It affords me the opportunity to learn more about what they desire to learn and what types of music they enjoy. We will learn with your music often. After all, isn't that why you are coming to see me? I will introduce you to new sounds and styles, but will foster your love for music, and do my best to never force my music on students. I feel I learn as much from my students when I truly listen to them and their music as they do from me.

On site lessons are available for artists recording demos, rehearsing bands and setting up their own studios.

On a side note, I love seeing students at my shows! I am a full time musician and can be seen playing with my band, in my own solo project and in various choral settings. Check out my website and see what I do outside of the classroom. My students get a kick out of the idea that they can buy a CD with their teachers face on it, and to be honest, so do I. Many of my students have their own music out on iTunes and YouTube. Many more can be seen performing around town in solo projects and professional ensembles.

Francesca on Artist Development:

I feel obligated to share my joys and experiences-

Not many people have been blessed to sing alongside as many renowned musicians as I have - I've been lucky to be welcomed in both the commercial and classical worlds and they have both afforded me venues to use my voice and express the most vital corners of my soul. To find your purpose through art is one of the greatest gifts you can receive. And to be able to do that in front of thousands of music lovers live or over the airwaves is a surreal experience.

It'€™s funny, my classical cronies are impressed to hear my stories of packed rock gigs at the House Blues and national touring festivals like Warped Tour and my rock buddies ask to hear my stories of Disney Hall performances with the LA Phil. To be honest, Iâ'm impressed to be there too. Sometimes, I look around and think, how did I get here? How did I get lucky enough to live the dream, to find a home in music?

I've been luckier than most. I've had GREAT mentors who have always pushed me forward and shared their wisdom freely with me. Part of the classical musician's central goal is to educate. That'€™s a value I carry into my rock projects and production studio. Work smarter, not harder. Take the needed skills, create art, teach others how to do the same thing, move forward together to live happier, more productive lives filled with purpose.

I have come to be known as one of the top Musical Mentors & Artist Development Experts on the west coast. A behind the scenes- diva of dream building with the skills to push artists to the next level- the ace up the sleeve of many of today working talents. In my award winning studio, I spend time coaching the young voices and faces of today hottest TV shows seen on ABC, Nickelodeon, and the Disney Channel, but I still have a soft spot for up and comers in the indie music world. Having written and performed my own music for decades, I not only lived the collegiate experience of the elite classical performer singing for presidents and world leaders, but also the dingy road of the rock musician who'€™s showed one night to a packed stadium full of fans and showed up another, thousands of miles from home to play to a coffee shop of 5 people. Music has brought me to nearly every continent and introduced me to some of the most talented and diverse people you can imagine. I feel compelled to share these experiences with those around me so that they my develop the vision, the salt and the skills to persevere.

I am, above all, an artist & creator- living the dream, helping people- like you find their voice and write their songs. Turning raw emotion into art.

Each one of us has a story, our truth. Being an artist is about finding ourselves, our song and expressing it publicly so that we may heal, so that we may grow.

It doesn't take a ton of experience to write a hit song. It doesn't take a fancy education or a family line of talent (though it can help). We can all find our voice, our place in the spotlight, what it takes is the courage to take the next step forward.

You've already had the genius to be in the right place at the right time. Here. If you've made it this far, chances are you are smart enough, hungry enough and ready to take the plunge.

Inside my studio you will find the help you seek. I can impart you with proven techniques to strengthen your sound, develop your tone through strong technique, develop strategies to share your art and develop a plan to turn pipe dreams into reality. Some desire to sing on the worlds brightest stages, others strive to lead others through teaching themselves, and some wish for nothing more than to experience music in a confident manner among friends. All can be lead on this personal journey of the artistic soul and all can make their offering to the musical gods. There is a place at the table for anyone seeking an answer.

Whatever your level, be prepared to learn and have fun!

In addition, he tailors the lessons to fit your goals and desires for your instrument, whether it be piano, guitar, and or voice! (Many of his students take lessons on two instruments, for example Guitar & Voice or Piano & Voice.) You may be wanting to learn your instrument from the beginning, and then finding out
your passion for a certain genre of music, or possibly learning and playing songs you love. In another example, you may have been playing for a period of time and possibly you desire to heighten your game, learning new skills and technique regarding your instrument. Or quite possibly, you want to blend the joy of singing while playing the piano or the guitar! It's time to go through the joy and benefits in playing a musical instrument and or singing!

PERFORMANCE
Steven B has extensive experience in performance. For many years, he performed piano and sang at many fine establishments throughout San Diego and Los Angeles. Later on, he produced a concert tour and performed 50 concerts to 15,000 young people throughout San Diego. The title of his concert tour is Heroes In Our World. Steven B played keyboards, guitar and sang. The concerts honored real-life moms, dads, doctors, nurses, teachers, athletes, entertainers who give back to charity, police officers, firemen, and explorers who make our world a better place. His list of performances continues. He has a record of being the only musician to write a song, produce it, playing the instruments and vocals, along with filming and editing the videos of the performances each week for 52 consecutive weeks. His students benefit because he teaches many aspects in performance and can prepare students for any kind of audition or performance.

In conclusion, whether you want to learn to play an instrument and/or sing just for your own benefit and joy... Or you want to perform... Or you want to be professional earning money with music - you have come to the correct place. He will be looking forward in working with you. Again, he teaches all styles, ages and skill levels. Beginners are most welcome. He currently has one or two openings for new students.

Reviews From Students and Parents (Piano - Guitar - Voice)

“I just wanted to say Thank You and let you know how much I appreciate all the information and help you have given Mikey. You helped him form a great hobby that he loves to do and the family loves to hear. He has come so far since his first lesson and I am happy you kept the Piano lessons interesting for him. Thanks again for being a kind, great teacher to him.” - Cheryl, 5 Stars!

“Steven B, a patient, gifted teacher has supervised my studies on guitar with good humor, wit and flexibility.  I would recommend him without hesitation to players young and old.” - Tim, 5 Stars!

“I took voice and piano lessons in Steven B’s Coronado Music Studio and also online via Skype.  Both experiences were great, and it was really convenient to do the lessons on Skype.  Steven B is an excellent teacher, and he is very patient.  I recommend him to anyone who wants to learn to play an instrument or sing!” - Kat , 5 Stars!

“Steven B’s fun and patient teaching style rocks. I see how his bright, fun-loving personality, and knowledge of music for piano makes him top choice as my daughter’s music instructor.” - Anthony, 5 Stars!

“Steven B is a wonderful teacher!  He is talented, always enthusiastic, and extremely motivational! Each lesson is designed specifically for our daughter Kelsey's ability and desired genre of music! Kelsey began guitar and vocal lessons in the Coronado studio and is now taking lessons via Skype since our move to Virginia.  The lessons are convenient, affordable, and productive. We are excited to be able to still have Steven B as her guitar and vocal teacher!” - Amy, 5 Stars!

“I came to Steven B as a beginner in piano and I took the piano lessons on my Casio keyboard. I just wanted to learn my favorite songs. Steven B got me into the music I really enjoy!  In only three months, I was able to play and sing a song I truly love titled “Angel” from Sarah McLachian.  My teacher said I performed it as well as the artist. My friends, loved my performance of the song!” - Katrina, 5 Stars!

“My son has taken guitar and voice lessons with Steven B for the last year.  We are pleased with classes and the improvement we've seen in comparison to a previous instructor.  Steven B is punctual and extremely respectful of the time and money it takes to provide lessons.  He can be counted on to be both friendly and professional.  He comes prepared for lessons and expects the same of his students.  If you are serious about learning and improving your skills, we highly recommend him.” - Christina, 5 Stars!

“My time in being instructed by Steven B on piano was a great, informative experience. Ever since the first lesson, he is a very good teacher that clearly knows what he is doing. Mr. Bruce taught me at my own pace, taking time to help me work on skills, especially small details that help me perform much better. He is a very skilled instructor, teaching me pieces from not only music books that he provides, but also the valuable skill of learning by ear, a skill few other teachers bother to touch on. Steven B has helped on a number of occasions with songs that I am learning on my own and fit time into our lessons to work on them. He is always willing to let the student work on what they like as well as what he gives out. When I once mentioned my liking for jazz, we soon started an in-depth series of lessons into the genre, teaching me much more than I ever knew prior to it. I’ve never felt pressured by my assignments and pieces to bring home, as Steven B knows everyone goes at their own pace and can take anytime from a few days to a few weeks to learn a song. My time with him was a very fun and informative time that I thoroughly enjoyed.” - Michael, 5 Stars!

Steven's very patient and demonstrates what he wants me to do. As he says, "There are no mistakes," and we keep right on going. I feel as if my voice has been enriched and made prettier. I'm so glad I found Steven to be my vocal coach.

Steven B. is an exceptional piano teacher. He knows how to motivate and encourage a student, and is very accommodating with regard to a student's particular interests.
One of his most outstanding teaching features is that he has an entirely unique approach to ear training (playing by ear). He creates customized playing-by-ear, step-by-step, walk-through recordings--which he professionally produces in his home studio.
These recordings break down a piece in such a way which allows a student to learn how to recognize intervals, chords, chord inversions, melodic lines, and more.
I cannot emphasize enough the (often under-appreciated) value of such ear training for students at all levels.

Aside from being an excellent musician, Josh is personable and easy to be around. Having someone who is not only proficient at teaching, but who makes the learning atmosphere relaxed and comfortable has been incredibly helpful to my progress. I'd highly recommend taking any sort of lesson with Josh!

It has been about 20 years since I last took piano lessons, but recently decided that it was something I wanted to get back into and Josh has been awesome! He’s been very accommodating and we’ve found a good combination of working on lesson-like material, tempo, and on pieces that I’ve wanted to learn how to play. He is very attentive and takes notes throughout the lesson so that we make sure that we always start back up at the same place each time. I’ve been very happy working with Josh over the past few months and would highly recommend him to anyone looking to play the piano again or for the first time!

As both a musician and a neuroscientist, my approach to teaching the piano (and music in general) draws from scientific fact, while driving you towards your passion. I have been studying music for over 16 years (since I was 5), I have a degree in music performance from the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory, and I have performed my original music in 3 co-lead ensembles on multiple international and domestic tours.

Our focus will be on the music you find most inspiring, why you find it inspiring, and how you can emulate it to eventually make your own.

These three main pillars of my pedagogy will be structured around the music of your choosing:

1) technique: in order to execute your music at the piano
2) ear training: so you have the music internalized before you play it, and so you can quickly pick up more music you are interested in
3) theory: so you can chunk and digest the structure and organization of music to better comprehend and remember it.

I bring a lot of energy to every ...

About Matthew
I am a professional musician in San Diego who's conducted multiple domestic and international tours with various ensembles, all performing original music.

I structure our lessons around giving you a deeper understanding for the music you are most passionate about - so that you can perform, analyze, emulate, and ultimately, create your own!

If you'd like to hear some original music of mine you can visit my website, in particular the Frisson & Plexus tabs!

I am originally from Wellesley, MA, and recently graduated from Oberlin College & Conservatory in 2017 with bachelor's degrees in jazz vibraphone performance and neuroscience. I love music that is both emotionally and physically moving, and thus have been drawn to two major genres (but am not limited to these): the rich harmonies and rhythmic complexi
ties of jazz music, as well as a strong interest in electronic music. I studied classical music for over 10 years before transitioning more into jazz and electronic music.

I bring a gregarious and enthusiastic energy to every lesson, with the intention of 1) having fun, 2) coming to a deeper understanding of the music you love, and ultimately yourself!
