I start from scratch with every student, and create a plan based on their goals, experience, and preferred music styles. No two students have the same lesson.

Additionally, because the jazz school I attended gave students very strong instruction in harmony and ear-training, I teach students not just how to read notes, but to understand what they're playing so they can be more creative and versatile. Moreover, I encourage students to feel comfortable making mistakes in a safe environment so they can step outside of their comfort zone.

About Marshal

I've been involved with music for nearly my whole life. I started out with Suzuki violin lessons and then switched to piano when I was in the 2nd grade and have been performing, studying, composing, and teaching ever since. I graduated from Yale with a Bachelor's in History and afterwards earn

Brent has been teaching my daughter drum for about 1 year now and it has been great!

I highly recommend him as a music teacher.

My 7 year old loves music and has shown an affinity towards playing the drums! Brent has been an awesome teacher and has so much patience working with easily distracted kids. He is always encouraging my son and show him both the fun side and the more technical side of playing the drums. We look forward to continuing our lessons with Mr. Brent, and I highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn how to play the drums
Shalinee
Brent has created a wonderful learning environment for both of my kids. Although they are at very different stages of learning, Brent has been able to meet them individually where they are in their processes. Brent’s approach is calm, engaging and fun. Both kids look forward to learning more each week.

I have been teaching the wonderful instrument of the piano for more than seven years.

I utilize the Faber Piano Adventures piano series of lesson books that includes lessons and homework in a fun and engaging way to promote retention. I also use the publication A New Approach to Keyboard Harmony to learn chord progressions, sequences, modulations, realization of both figured and un-figured basses, basic improvisation, and score reading. Learning these techniques will help transition students seamlessly to various styles and genres that incorporate the piano, helping you learn and love the piano without frustrating stoppages that often lead us away from lesson continuity.

From there, for intermediate and advance students I use the Hanon Piano Exercises Book to promote correct and precise fingering, syncopation, arpeggiation, pedaling, and key centering.

"I am 23 years old and have been taking piano lessons with Glynis for close to a year. I can honestly say that my progress over this year has been amazing! As an adult beginner who never played the piano before, I was a little worried that it was too late for me to start learning but I was definitely wrong! Glynis has made it possible for me! She lets you go at your own pace so as not to make you feel overwhelmed or to become too frustrated and give up. Glynis never makes you feel hopeless if you do not get something right away which is something I'm sure any beginning pianist would be grateful for. She is always kind and helpful whenever I do not get something right away and is able to demonstrate it by playing it herself to allow me to know what it should sound like. She always incorporates some sort of theory into our lessons as well which allows me to better understand what I am actually doing on the piano which has helped my growth extensively. She lets you pick pieces that YOU want to learn and will help you through every step of the way to learn it. Glynis has showed me that I can tackle more challenging pieces by learning them line by line and starting slow which keeps me eager and determined to keep practicing! Glynis is the BEST! I look forward to taking lessons with her for years to come!"
