I am a highly qualified and experienced teacher, and adapt my approach and pace to the needs and personality of each student. I ensure they can read the notes they are playing so they can become independent musicians. I have proven success in taking students up to the top level of the ABRSM exams, and I am a member of the California Music Teachers Association. I teach either in English or French using both musical systems (do re mi or ABC).

My qualifications are:

* master of music (piano pedagogy), Notre Dame de Namur University, Belmont, CA (GPA: 4.0)
* state piano teaching diploma, France
* gold medal in piano performance, Conservatoire National
* bachelor of arts degree in musicology, Sorbonne, Paris (cum laude)

I speak both English and French languages.

About Laurence
I am a highly experienced and qualified piano teacher, teaching all ages and levels from beginner to advanced. I have proven success in taking students up to the top level of the ABRSM exams, and I am a member of the California Music Teachers Association.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master of Music (piano pedagogy), 2004, Notre Dame de Namur University, Belmont, CA (award of excellence)
Bachelor of Arts degree in Musicology, Sorbonne, Paris (cum laude)
State Piano Teaching Diploma, France
Gold Medal in Piano Performance, Conservatoire National

EXPERIENCE

I have been giving weekly individual piano and theory lessons for many years, presenting many for the ABRSM grade examinations. I also accompany high school choirs, and enjoy playing chamber music with the Arte Piano Trio. I am a enthusiastic pianist and enjoy sharing t
his passion with my students.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am familiar with the major piano methods, but rather than slavishly following one method, I prefer to adapt my teaching approach and pace to the needs and personality of each student, using whatever material is best suited for them. I ensure my students can read the notes they are playing, and thoroughly understand the rhythms, so they can become independent musicians. I also emphasize playing musically, even at beginning level, so they can enjoy and understand the music immediately. My students also have the opportunity to play in student recitals twice per year.

I can teach in English or French, using either letter name notes or the solfege method (do re mi).

*** Specialties ***
Classical piano (all periods) and chamber music
Broadway musicals and popular song music
I am specialized in preparing students for the internationally recognized ABRSM Grade exams.
I am familiar with most popular piano methods such as Faber and Faber, Alfred, Denes Agays, John Thompson and Bastien, and Dozen a Day for technique, and use them when I feel it is appropriate for the particular student.

I have over 10 years of experience teaching piano lessons to students of all ages. It is most important to me that students love learning music. I see this as a way for students to develop self-motivation to practice and feel excited about their own musical growth. I strive to make music lessons both fun and challenging by incorporating interests from the student as well as mixing in technically challenging and traditional repertoire.

About Kim
I love teaching music and helping students to find a passion for learning an instrument. I have experience as a music teacher in K-12 classrooms and also teaching private lessons to people of all ages. Since graduating, I have consistently taught private lessons to students of all ages. Playing piano is fun! So should your piano lessons.

I've taught piano since I was in high school, and continued to teach as a student at Cornell University. I also taught theory classes in the Cornell Piano Society, where I also served as President for 4 years.

Why? I simply love music, piano, and sharing it with others.

About Marwan
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, I started playing piano when I was 3, and began writing music when I was 6. I've taught music and piano for over 12 years.

We could not be happier with Marwan! Most importantly, my daughter is thriving with his instruction -- though we like him too :) Marwin brings expansive experience in piano and beyond. For piano, he's got a great balance of being exacting and precise with instructions yet just as flexible as we need him to be if my daughter hasn't been able to practice due to other demands. We like that he doesn't make her feel guilty about that -- but is patient and able to get her on track so she can fulfill her amazing musical potential. We love his in-depth knowledge in a variety of things and he's charming, warm, and humorous to be around. Highly recommended: you'll enjoy meeting and working with him.

Wow! We are so grateful for Marwan. He comes to our home, teaches 3 hours of 5 consecutive lessons and he still has a smile on his face when he leaves late in the evening. He's knowledgeable, patient, encouraging and enjoyable. His expectations are high, but attainable. I have seen a marked improvement in my children during the last three months of lessons!

Want to learn to improvise on the piano? Compose your own amazing tunes?

Learning to create your own music will make you a better pianist and musician. It will expand your creativity in other fields, and will give you a great amount of joy. Plus, it will make your friends and family look at you with wonder.

I've been teaching people how to improvise for 10 years now and can help you do the same. This is, incidentally, a great way of getting beginners to really enjoy playing and develop some fundamental skills. Feel free to contact me to see if we're a match!

About Daniel
My passion is helping people learn new skills. Nothing gets me more excited than seeing someone improve in something that I know will enhance their life.

In terms of my personality and teaching style, I'm very relaxed and make learning really fun--that's part of what enables learning to be effective!

In terms of my experience, I've been an educator for the last 10 years. I have also worked in education at Google, Amazon, and other well-known companies and won several awards for my educational strategies (E3 scholar, South by Southwest Scholar, Design, Art, Technology Award, Hermes Creative Award, and more). In terms of education, it's a BA from Brown University, a Master's from Carnegie Mellon, and an MBA from Wharton.

So... let's get to the things I love teaching most!

PIANO
I've been playing piano for 25+ years. When I first
started learning, I really struggled to motivate myself to practice, so I understand many of the challenges that beginners face when they take up the instrument. It's not easy! However, I've learned some strategies that make practicing fun and effective. I love motivating individuals to accomplish things they could only dream of. My particular specialty is helping people learn how to improvise and compose their own music. By being able to improvise, you'll be able to not only WOW your friends and family, but also have a greater appreciation and understanding of all the music you hear. You'll naturally also get better at music theory, and--once you're good--you'll have a feeling of satisfaction that is incredible.

SPANISH
Quieres hablar Español? Having learned four languages and taught many in the past, I've crafted a particular style for teaching people languages that takes into account the way that humans learn languages naturally. We'll converse and read about all your interests so that you can really enjoy it. It's really fun and you'll get to speak very quickly!

All ages & levels accepted - it's never too late to pick up an instrument! Lessons will be geared towards each student's individual interests and progress. While all students will learn to master fundamental performance techniques and music theory concepts, each will have a different approach to music, and that is the beauty of becoming a performing artist. Students will also be prepared for such music exams and annual recitals they may wish to participate in.

About Jasmine
I am a professional pianist and violinist from the San Francisco Bay Area. I graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with a Bachelor's Degree in Music, specifically piano performance. Currently, I am an elementary school band instructor with the Fremont Unified School District; I also teach private piano and violin lessons in my home studio.

Throughout my life, I have experienced music in many different settings - these include solo performances, collaborative music, piano accompaniment, music theory, recording/performing arts technology, dance, composition and film/TV/video scoring. Since a young age I have sung and played various instruments in many orchestral & choral groups, which has given me so many timeless and valuable memories that I would love to share with you! My personal passions for teaching come from the happi
ness it brings to others when they make music, and my goal is to guide you through the path that can ultimately lead you to having the same, even better experiences.

Whether you want to learn how to play a contemporary song you love or immerse yourself in the world of Classical music, I am here to help you with your first steps in the performing arts at whatever pace works for you!
