Most single productive day I’ve had at the piano.

DeAnna has excellent credentials as a pianist and music theorist, but more importantly for me she is a patient teacher and good communicator who works hard to ensure that I learn and understand even the most basic skills and techniques. She is also fun to talk to and be with, and her love of music is infectious. She is an excellent teacher for an older student, and I imagine for younger ones too.

Deanna was great! Nice, patient, encouraging, and knowledgeable. I learned basic technique which already has me feeling more comfortable. I'm looking forward to progressing and confident I've made the right choice.

I decided to take up cello at age 57 as a new instrument. Melissa did a great job teaching proper technique and method and was really aware of my personal goals for what I wanted to achieve. She has a great gentle and encouraging demeanor. I would highly recommend Melissa.

I attune to each students needs, whether they are visual, pattern, or verbal learners. I do not subscribe to any "Piano 101" books; instead write practice exercises on a computer program or supply actual pieces or piano books, attuned to each student's needs. Lines on a page are boring for many; I add color to the notes on the page to help teach beginners the practice of sight reading, as I myself have synesthesia. I also encourage students to learn whichever music they want: if one wants to learn ragtime, I will teach ragtime; if one wants to learn jazz, I will teach jazz; and if one wants to learn classical, I will teach classical. I hope to expand students' involvement in music and enhance creativity. I also understand how important listening is, and encourage students to listen. But amidst all this, I strongly believe it is in both of our best interests to not assign busywork. Piano is more than a just skill; it is a hobby, a meditation practice, and it can be a tool for your life

"Miss Fawn (as we call her) has consistently shown professionalism, enthusiasm, and patience in teaching our boys how to play the piano. Each week she goes above and beyond in keeping their attention and helping them learn in a calm, fun and entertaining manner. We enjoy her kind-hearted spirit as she shows them new techniques and insists on them perfecting the ones they've previously learned. Miss Fawn constantly leads by examples with high, yet attainable expectations that push our boys to the next level. We highly recommend Fawn for anyone searching for an instructor with poise, personality, a wealth of knowledge and sincere passion for her craft."

5 Contemporary Songs to Learn How to Play Piano by Ear

Can your favorite contemporary songs help you learn how to play piano by ear? They sure can! Check out how to get started in this guest post by Corona, CA teacher Milton J...   Recently, I started teaching a new piano student who simply wanted to play his favorite pop songs by both ear and sight to not only become a better pianist, but to be the life of the party for his friends. I loved his goal and made sure he knew about the great ways of learning how to play piano by ear using the pop …
