I have been playing and teaching banjo since 2006, and I'm always very excited to introduce new students to this unique instrument. I focus on the "Scruggs-style" method of playing 5-string banjo, and we'll work on techniques used in common bluegrass and folk tunes. As you advance, I'll help you in creating your own banjo solo breaks.

So far so good. Very patient as mistakes after mistake was made. Corrected quite a few mistakes I was making so that my habits would be good habits from the start. Let me talk to myself as I messed up and complimented me when I was on the right track.

Great lesson! Thanks!

complete novice; adult student. First lesson very relaxed. Excellent blend through-out lesson of questions and information my goals and background as well as instructor's goals for me and his background. First "technical" part of lesson was manageable and care taken by Lyle to make sure I understood what was being presented. I left the first lesson feeling this would be a good fit between instructor and student

I am a professional full time Trombonist. At the same time, teaching has always been a big part of who I am - I love teaching. My music career has taken me around the world and back but more than that it has given me a wonderful tool of self expression, and for that I am forever grateful. My band performs regularly in Opera houses as well as coffee houses... Other than the Trombone I do play the Trumpet as well, and I have over 8 years of Piano under my belt. I feel very confident teaching Trumpet up to the advanced level. This is pretty much standard practice within the brass family :)

About Reut

Hello there! I am a trombonist and teacher, with many years of experience teaching Hebrew as well as music. As a music teacher I have worked with children starting from private lessons to young children beginning to learn, up to master classes in universities worldwide. I love teaching, and I

I've attended a number of masterclasses and group lessons with Andy in the past, and every learning experience has been enriching and engaging! He delves into the topic at hand with an all around approach, discussing history, pedagogical style, musical understanding, and of course, deliberate execution. When I'm working on my own, I often think back to many of the concepts he taught me, especially in regards to technique and mindfulness. As a music student, I'm grateful to be able to learn from him and am looking forward to arranging one-on-one lessons in the future!

Andy is a thoughtful, encouraging, and insightful instructor who is well versed in his studies of classical, world, orchestral, and chamber music amongst others. In his time filling in at Lawrence University while my primary instructor was on sabbatical, he gave me tips on how to internalize the "feel" of my repertoire, make my playing more efficient, increase my dynamic control on both mallet and battery instruments, and introduced me to the Afro-Colombian style of drumming. Andy's ability to cater to each student's individual needs and lesson curriculum is extremely impressive and inspiring.
Jonathan
As a percussionist studying in college, Andy is anything a student could ever ask for in terms of percussion expertise. Around UW Milwaukee, he gives excellent master classes and is able to lead full class sessions that delve into a LARGE array of topics. This may already be a selling point, but one on one lessons with Andy are outstanding. Mastery of many styles and instruments make it easy for Andy to give lessons on almost anything, including drumset, classical percussion, congas, etc. Great instructor!!
