My daughter wanted some exposure to the instrument so she could continue with it on the side as she has a primary instrument already. John did a great job or arming her with the requisite knowledge to understand how to play. I would recommend him.

Music has many different elements that comprise it. These include but are not limited to: pitch, pulse, rhythm, melody, harmony, texture, arrangement, timbre/color, expressive qualities (dynamics and articulation), and form or structure. From these basic building blocks, all theoretical material that can be studied has come to be. This material when understood and employed can further your growth as a musician exponentially, and can assist you in writing music, sight-reading, as well as virtually any creative activity involving music.

I have spent half my life learning about the science and the math behind music (why music sounds the way it does, and how to write music to emulate thoughts, feelings, and intellectual ideas). THIS is music theory... to understand how music works on paper, and have the ability to integrate that knowledge into our own musical work. Theory can be applied in ones study of music, and in writing original compositions. It is incredibly useful in playing any ...

I would highly recommend Jonathan as a music teacher. Jonathan is absolutely passionate about music, which is evident by his enthusiastic and energetic teaching techniques. He is very patient with my five year old and encourages her to get her very best effort. Jonathan customizes the music and lessons for my daughter’s skill level while at the same time provides challenges to keep the learning process interesting. In a short period of time, my daughter's keyboard playing abilities have dramatically increased. I am very grateful to Jonathan for making learning fun for my daughter, who always looks forward to her lessons!

I’ve always was a musician but only discovered my voice 10 years ago. I have gone through so many struggles to find my voice and I can help you find yours quicker than I did. I have gone through the wrong path and have had amazing teachers get me out of traps and dead ends and in return I’ve been able to help my students do the same. I’ve been teaching for 6 years now and it has been another passion of mine to see my students grow and achieve their dreams.

"If I had to pick all over again, I would still choose Michelle! I can't think of anything she could do to improve. She is smart, funny, bubbly, positive, and very flexible with schedules. She could teach any age and any range of ability without making the student feel humiliated. In fact, she is very good at building confidence and you can tell she ENJOYS teaching and singing. She is also very caring. I originally purchased the lessons for my daughter (20) who is interested in theater, but just for fun (and as a Christmas present), we did the first few lessons together. I am in charge of our church youth band, so I continued my lessons as I discovered there really is so much to learn. I have never been able to reach high notes, so I've learned how to breathe and even get well past my normal B-flat high note. I never knew there were so many places for sound to reverberate, so I guess you could say I am finding my voice. I am a reading specialist, so I recognize quality instruction. My daughter and I love her so much that my 22-year old son wanted to take lessons as well. He is a piano performance major at UNT and appreciates good teachers who are also good musicians. We all three highly recommend her. I would give her more stars if I could! The Take Lessons website is also very well organized and I haven't had a bit of trouble with it, despite the fact that I've had to rearrange my lessons quite often. Thanks for everything, Michelle!"

Are Heavy Metal Banjos The Next Big Thing?
