Hello my name is Joyce Lindsey,
I have been studying West African djembe, (traditional/ballet 3 set) dun-duns, culture and history for five years collectively. I am currently a member of all female drum and dance company called Ayodele Drum and Dance that is based out of Chicago, IL. I currently perform and continue to study West African music from Guinea, Mali, Nigeria, and the Ivory Coast through Ayodele and play for West African dance classes professionally.
I understand that teaching djembe requires a lot of patience as well as detailed but simple explanations/demonstrations of how to develop and improve djembe technique. Through my own experience with my djembe teachers and djembefolas like Bolokada Conde and Khalid Abdul Saleem over my five years of studying djembe, I was able to improve and develop my technique because my teachers were: patient, clear and detailed in their explanations, fun and concise when demonstrating simple and complex rhythms and able to break down ...

I enjoy working with most of my students, especially those who practice hard. I find all students unique and they response differently to my requests or questions. I feel that very often I need to react spontaneously to their responses. For the beginners I mainly focus on reading musical notes and learning correct rhythmic values. With beginners who haven’t played the piano at all I teach finger exercises written finger numbers only. Then I use Piano Adventures theory, lesson, technique and artistry, performance, and popular music books. Although Alfred’s and Bastien’s methods are well known, I prefer Piano Adventures because they introduce the coordination of right and left hand in more progressive manner. At the beginning the following will be covered.
• Postures at the piano, finger numbers, high and low on the keyboard
• Music alphabet, Intervals
• Musical form, Dynamic marks
• Staff; line notes, space notes
• Time signature, accent mark, legato, staccato
• Basic chords ...
I was born and raised in S. Korea. I studied piano performance at Catholic University of Daegu, Northern Illinois University, Cleveland Institute of Music and University of Iowa and hold DMA in piano performance and pedagogy from University of Iowa. Other than music I hold BS in Computer Science fr

I have students that are in every walk of their guitar playing journeys. The material and methods we use to learn guitar will vary considerably based on your level of ability/knowledge and age.
Music comes from the soul and is an incredibly vulnerable form of expression. When individuals perform for people, including a teacher, they put themselves and imperfections out to be seen. That's why it is important for students to feel safe and confident in their instructor, something you will

My kids have been taking music lesson from Jesse for several months and they love it. They love the setting in the studio with multiple musical instruments, so that they can get to play other instruments in duets with Jesse. As a parent, I appreciate Jesse's method in teaching young kids. Jesse seems to have music in his heart and his passion can be easily seen by his students. Jesse respects my kids' opinion, yet very disciplined with their attitude. My kids seem to start appreciating 'music' in addition to learning 'skills'."
Milton is a very good and knowledgeable singing instructor, especially being one so young. He is clear in his instructions and makes my husband and me feel like he will be able to teach us to "sang" one day. He is not only teaching us voice but also explains the dynamics of the sounds, shapes, posture, etc that goes along with learning to sing properly. I'm looking forward to the day when we actually put everything he's teaching us into words and music."
Tammy was patient, personable and let's not forget an amazing pianist...she made my daughters first lesson a wonderful experience. Look no further, Tammy Y is it!!!!"
