About Brian

I have been playing guitar for 30 years and teaching for 25 years. I've been featured in Guitar Player magazine (see attached pic). and my live experience includes concerts and tours with various bands (Champagne Francis, Scout), theater (Jersey Boys, Movin' Out, Josh Gad (Book of Mormon) and TV performances (Jay Leno, The Today Show). I enjoy teaching both children and adults. I recommend children under 10 start on a fender squire mini electric guitar ($99) For adults, I am able to bring beginner and intermediate guitarists to an advanced level of playing and understanding songwriting, soloing and playing songs with good technique. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you along your path of learning music and guitar. Thanks! *** Lesson Details *** Each lessons ...

My 10 yr old son has been asking for guitar lessons for a while, I finally looked up teachers on take lessons website through Google search. I decided to go with Brian based on proximity and other reviews. It turns out to be a great decision. He is very patient and good with kids, his suggestion to go with electric guitar to start with really kept my son interested in learning the instrument. His schedule is very full during the weekend, but he is very accommodating to our schedule as well. I would recommend him for parents to at least try out and I am sure you will stay with him once you get to know him.

Brian is the best teacher

I cannot say enough good things about Brian. My son has taken lessons for a few months now and he loves it. Brian is patient which is great for new students. He understands a child's temperament, limitations, excitement and greatness. He allows the lesson to flow around your unskilled hand. So, if you makes a 'mistake' he turns it into a song and lesson. Its no longer a mistake but a new chord you have just learned. He is very good at teaching adults and children just the same so if you want to learn w someone extremely knowledgable, caring and patient. He is your man.

Elizabeth is an amazing teacher! She was/is able to identify my learning style and meet me where I am musically. She keeps me challenged but successful in my endeavor. Elizabeth is VERY patient and kind and encouraging. I was hesitant about fulfilling my dream of playing the harp (as an adult learner), but am very excited about the progress I am making thanks to her. Elizabeth makes me believe in myself and my ability to learn to play and enjoy the harp!

I have only had three lessons so far, but Parker has been very easy to work with. I am sure that I present a challenge as far as structuring a lesson program. I am an older student (late 60's), I had some formal music training learning to play the accordion when I was young, but I am entirely self taught on guitar. I played guitar for several years when I was in my late teens, & picked it up again about 8 or nine months ago.
Consequently, I am all over the map in terms of my capabilities. Advanced beginner or intermediate in some technical areas, but with major gaps in my understanding of both theory and technique, Parker has done a nice job initially of not spending too much time on things I already know, but still covering enough of the basics with me to identify gaps in my abilities that need to be strengthened. I have enjoyed my sessions, and the pace has been about right so far.

Extremely knowledgeable, and best of all: he knows good tricks to teach you the content. He's done this for years and will serve you well. He can occasionally get sidetracked/off-topic, but it serves to provide insight into other aspects of the lesson and doesn't detract from the content. Overall, I'm very happy continuing lessons with him! :)

About David

Since beginning his teaching career in 1974 David has taught 7000 people how to play guitar! Some aspiring only to play at home for fun and others to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. David F. has also taught advanced guitar and music theory to several professional musicians who already play other instruments fluently including Oscar nominee Scott Rogness, who co-wrote and performed the songs featured in the movie That Thing You Do. Scott had this to say about his study with David: "I studied with David for about 8 months. Although proficient on keyboards, a singer and songwriter; I had never learned the guitar. I knew a lot about the guitar by osmosis, but technically was green. David let me look at the guitar in a whole new way, using infinite variations on basic

I have increased my lesson frequency to two one-hour sessions per week simply because of my progress under David's direction. After only three months of weekly lessons, I can now read music and play while reading. David has introduced me to effective melodic soloing, has significantly improved my understanding of barre chords up and down the fretboard, and has convinced me to abandon "guitaristic" thinking in favor of really understanding the potential of the guitar beyond shape memorization.

For those players serious about music, who are willing to devote the time and attention required to improve, and who appreciate not only learning to play guitar but the theory and history behind the music, David is your man. I have taken lessons in the past, usually consisting of a teacher asking what riffs I wanted to work on that day. Sound familiar? Not David. Within the first two weeks, he has me focused on plucking the strings with more feel, using a pick and fingers simultaneously with my right hand, practicing scales to the tempo of a metronome while using the forwards and backwards technique, etc. He has convinced me that I can become as accomplished a player as I put my mind and heart to. His mantra is to work towards playing at the speed of thought, which, for the first time in my life, looks to be a possibility with time. Thank you, David.

Fantastic drum teacher

Jonah was very patient with our 8 yr old son who had absolutely no prior experience in music at all. Jonah was very adaptable to the needs and skill level of our son. Our son came out of every lesson inspired to practice, and with the desire to be like Jonah one day. Jonah is not just an awesome instructor, he's very knowledgeable in every aspect related to drums. And finally, Jonah can really wail on the drum set!
Very cool, first music experience for our son.

Why Learning Piano Theory is Important for All Musicians

How to Practice Singing: Practical Tips for Memorizing Lyrics
Need to memorize lyrics--quickly? Take a look at these helpful tips from Ann Arbor, MI voice teacher Elaina R...   For many people, memorizing words is easier if the words are set to music–that is why songs are often used in education (there is even a song that lists all 50 states!). That being said, trying to memorize a song on a deadline is not fun. Not many people know how to practice singing lyrics effectively, and singers often need to learn multiple songs on short notice.
