Book NowI began studying ear training in high school, and have taken several semesters of college-level ear training. In addition, I have studied piano at an intermediate level. Ear training is an amazing tool for improving intonation on your instrument and interpreting music in general. I have the following resources at my disposal for use in ear training lessons:
- The Musician's Guide to Theory and Analysis (Clendinning and Marvin)
- The Musician's Guide to Theory and Analysis workbook (Clendinning and Marvin)
- The Musician's Guide to Aural Skills Sight-Singing book (Murphy, Phillips, Marvin, Clendinning)
- Materials and Techniques of Post-Tonal Music (Kostka and Santa)
- Grand piano (in my College Studio and can be used online)
- Yamaha electric piano (in my Home Studio and can be used online)

I believe it is very important to understand the why and how behind music. As the student understands music theory in relation to piano, voice, or any other instrument, he/she can start to join the knowledge of music theory with their instrument. When this happens, they are able to see a clearer of picture of the music; and become that much closer to true musicianship.

I’m available to teach private lessons for teens and adults interested in learning piano for the first time, or who want to improve their skills. My strengths are patience, enthusiasm, and an unusual way of approaching piano. I’m not famous or particularly interested in becoming famous, so if that’s your goal, I’m not the right teacher for you. I strongly believe everyone can play piano, and should. There are so many ways to access the piano -- sight reading music, improv, composition, accompaniment, playing by ear -- and whatever way works for you is the right way. Finally, I believe it’s never too late to start learning something new, and your bucket list should not wait until you retire.
About Kristen
I started dance later in life -- tap at 19 and ballet at 31 -- because I was so tall and awkward as a child. It never occurred to me that people my size could be dancers. I fell in love with dance as an escape from a stressful job teaching high school history. I saw such changes in myself the more

I am a 15 years old and have been taking lessons with Jillian for about a year and a half. I started out as a beginner and she was so patient with me and encouraged me continuously so that I can feel confident in myself. She also made the experience so much fun, while other teachers I've had made it stressful. She is also so knowledgable and talented but never made me feel bad that i wasnt at her level. Jillian is also cares about all her students and their progress. I cant recommend her enough to everyone who wants to learn!!"

With all of the music teachers in LA and the world, it is difficult to choose the best. With Fawn, I believe 100% that I have found the best. She is well educated, well rounded and versed in all the musical styles, up on the latest musical trends, yet knows the composers, songwriters and vocalists of yesteryears. She is passionate, fun, compassionate, patient, loving, kind and has a college degree from the 2 top music schools in the world. She has a thorough understanding of music theory, performance, voice, piano and the many ins and outs of the music industry. She is able to teach her students the theory behind the songs they are learning to play, sing, write and record. She is great at sharing the musical journey with her students, guiding them with honesty, tender care and knowledge. My daughter has grown leaps and bounds with Fawn and absolutely loves her. Sheâs helped change her voice into her authentic voice, taught her how to get over stage fright, how to turn her poems into song lyrics and how to produce her own vocals in the recording studio. She is quite simply, the best."

Is that a fiddle... or a violin? It's a common question, and one that baffles many beginner musicians. So what's the answer? When it comes to the actual instrument, there actually aren't any differences. What distinguishes a violin from a fiddle is what kind of music you're playing with it. A musician playing folk, bluegrass or country, for example, would most likely refer to their instrument as a fiddle; those who play other genres (jazz, classical, etc.) typically call theirs a violin. …
