About Gary
I am a songwriter, composer, producer, keyboardist, saxophonist and educator based in New York. I earned BM and MM degrees from New England Conservatory, both with distinction.
My lessons are tailored to the appropriate goals, interests, and level of the student. If you are a complete beginner, or are resuming lessons after a long hiatus, I strive to make the lesson fun and stress-free, while providing you the fundamentals that allow you to quickly play the music you are passionate about. If you are seeking to develop your improvising and songwriting skills, I help you study artists and influences you feel a kinship with, and work to integrate the qualities that draw you to these artists into your unique musical personality. This is the process of finding a “voice” as an improviser or songwriter, and one of my favorite approaches to tea
ching.

Gary has taught my son for about 7 years. He is a wonderful teacher, as skilled with small children as he is with more advanced musicians. Professionally trained and credentialed, there are few aspects of music he is not ready to teach. Piano, saxophone, production, theory--he can do it all.

He taught my son piano when he was small and then when the kid switched to upright bass, he comped him for years and taught him the tricks of the jazz trade (the kid is ready for an arts high school because of Gary's teaching)

Gary is incredibly punctual and responsible about times and dates. In person, he is warm and supportive but very focussed on the student's development. Gary loves what he does and loves watching his students develop. i would recommend him for all levels, and as an added bonus he is a very cerebral and thoughtful individual. Let this musician teach you or your child and you won't be disappointed!

Gary taught both our kids for several years. He was enthusiastic, entertaining, and cared very much about teaching. We really enjoyed him and recommended him to many friends who ended up also working with him for many years.

It was a great experience having Gary Joynes teach piano to our middle school son for several years. With his upbeat and collaborative approach, Gary really connected with our son and worked efficiently and constructively to help him improve. Gary has a wealth of advanced music and performance knowledge - but he also has the ability to make the basics fun. We miss you, Gary!

About Rebecca
"Whether it is nailing that next key audition or speaking with more confidence at your next big board meeting, I look forward to working with you to give you the tools, training and support to succeed..."

Praised by Opera News for her “pearly tone,” REBECCA BLINDER is a voice teacher and performer living and working in NYC. She has been teaching voice in New York for over a decade, trained at a variety of festivals and young artist programs, and earned a Master’s Degree (and Bachelor's Degree) in Voice Performance from The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance.

Rebecca has taught a wide variety of performers — from professionals to talented children and teenagers. Her students have performed in Film, Television, on National tours, at Regional Theaters and Music Venues including New York City Opera, Radio City Mus
ic Hall and recently the Academy Awards. She also enjoys working with beginners and those who want to explore their vocal potential for their own enjoyment.

As a performer herself, Rebecca’s career as an Operatic Soprano as well as a performer of Musical Theatre, New Works and Spiritual Music has taken her all over the United States, Europe and the Middle East. Favorite credits include Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus), Nedda (I Pagliacci), Micaëla (La Tragedie de Carmen) and a world premiere reading of Billy Blythe, a folk opera about the early years of Bill Clinton.

Rebecca’s knowledge of the music business, experience as a performer, and technical, supportive teaching method make her a sought-after voice teacher for students of all levels, backgrounds and vocal styles.

"My TEACHING PHILOSOPHY leads me to work with each student individually to help them find a tailored technique that works for them. No two voices are exactly alike, therefore I believe that there is not one rigid method that works for everyone. My ultimate goal is to help my students find their own unique sound, free of tension and full of confidence. Every student who comes to me started singing for a reason — because it felt good. And it should always feel good, restorative, and empowering!

In lessons I aim to keep this positive energy at the forefront and focus on making singing easier. My students and I work together to eliminate unnecessary effort and complications — those things that take away from the enjoyment that comes from singing. I take a healthy, classical vocal approach to encourage freedom, ease and power in the voice. As a student of such methods as Bel Canto, Alexander Technique and Yoga, I incorporate a full body approach to singing. I also encourage my students to find ways of improving their voices and the use of their bodies in all aspects of their lives, both in and outside the studio. In today’s busy world (and especially here in New York City) maximizing time, while learning to take a beat and focus, is a huge part of vocal technique. The voice reflects what is going on in the mind and body. In addition to their vocal work, I encourage all my students to spend time doing things that keep them happy and feeling good. Yoga, running, dancing, attending that concert or play — these activities help keep us in balance.

In my work with children and teenagers, I take special care to nurture their developing voices, encourage strong practice habits and sing with joy every day. Depending on their level of skill and their individual goals, we incorporate musicianship and music theory into technical work so that each student has the practical skills to pursue music in their life however they choose.

Whether it is nailing that next key audition or speaking with more confidence at your next big board meeting, I look forward to working with you to give you the tools, training and support to succeed!

See you in the studio! —Rebecca"

Rebecca is a wonderful vocal teacher with an incredibly warm personality that puts me at ease at encourages me to enjoy the practice of singing. During lessons, she explains each exercise very clearly and always knows the right advice to give when I am having trouble grasping a concept. She always inspires me to work hard to reach my own goals and her dedication to our lessons together has already led to amazing leaps in progress in my voice. I would absolutely recommend her for students of any level of training; you will very quickly notice the progress in your own voice while enjoying the art of singing.

About Marie-France
I have taught piano and voice most of my adult life. Early on I learned the need to adapt my teaching style to the uniqueness of each student, especially those whose perceptions differ widely from the general populace. I love what I do, helping each student discover and nurture their abilities, no matter what age the student may be.

The Holistic Piano method is especially effective with my Autism-spectrum students, a segment of the population I find particularly rewarding to teach.

The following is a quote from ex-student Karena Krull, author of "Drama Made Easy", and "Rummy Roots."

“Her greatest strength is her ability to find the right direction for each individual. This ability to adapt to the student's needs lends to individual success for student and avoids their frustration. If her current method or communication is
n't creating success for a student she will quickly change to another till she finds the right words or method to enable the student to succeed with the least amount of frustration.”

*** Lesson Details ***
I draw on a wide range of materials in The Holistic Piano (and voice) method. The curriculum may be color-based or number-based, we might focus on chord building or sight-reading, or Songwriting, depending on the student's need and desire.

*** Studio Equipment ***Private Music studio with glass door so waiting parents can see what's going on (though they can also be in the studio if they feel more comfortable.) I have a grand piano, 1 keyboard, and a variety of other instrument including hand drums, chimes, boomwackers, a chimealong and autoharp to enhance learning experience.

*** Specialties ***
Because each student is an individual, I approach teaching like a coach, custom designing a course of study for each student to meet their individual needs.

I enjoyed my 2 sessions with Marie, at the end of my second lesson she offered to email me a list of acting/improv classes in NYC because everyone she knows was in NYC.
This was contradictory because initially she told me she just moved here and doesn't know anyone up north. And besides that, I expressed how happy i was with her classes which was down the road 35 minutes and not commuting to NYC which is over a couple hours.
Anyway, I am glad that I actually learned something and got to do exercises and not leave with the feeling that i wasted my money and most importantly my time like other acting coaches on here.

Great teacher. Very encouraging and patient which is what an adult learner needs. She supports her students and gives them interesting contemporary pieces to learn (that is the genre we picked so we stay interested in practicing!). Thanks Marie France!

I enjoyed my 2 sessions with Marie, and from work she was a 35 min commute vs 90 mins to NYC.
With her I felt engaged, she was prepared, professional, stayed on topic and gave relevant critiques and feedback.
At the end of my second lesson she offered to email me a list of acting/improv classes in NYC which she did.

I have been teaching beginner and intermediate piano for the past 5 years to students ranging from ages 7 - 65. I teach all types of styles ranging from classical to jazz to pop with everything in-between.

My students can expect to develop a strong and reliable technique while being able to express their musical ideas with a clear and dynamic level of sophistication. It's the stories and emotions that draw people to music, so I do my best to base my teachings around that concept.

About Tano
Tano Brock is a 23 year-old singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Born and raised in San Francisco, CA, Tano began studying and performing music at a young age and had an almost super-natural knack for it ever since he began banging on a drum at only a few months old. Throughout his childhood, Tano accompanied his family to various music camps in California where he was exposed to music from all over the world. At 6 years old, he began studying darbuka, a Middle Eastern drum. He then started studying piano at age 7, and at 12 began teaching himself guitar. In his early teens he started playing saxophone/clarinet, as well as exploring the world of digital recording and production. At age 18, he released his self-produced debut solo album “Bandit” (2014) - which garnered significant success and launched his career as a com
poser for synch licensing. In 2019, Tano graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree focused on Music Production & Engineering. During his time at Berklee, he explored his deep affinity with world music traditions and traveled to Turkey and the Balkans to study with master musicians, and to Cuba to record a session at a studio in La Habana Vieja. He currently leads a Balkan brass band called Sarma Brass Band, which has performed venue such as the Grand Prospect Hall in NYC and the House of Blues in Boston.

Avi is simply the best teacher that I have ever had! I had trouble with tackling jazz improvisation for a long time and needed someone who can explain to me the whole A to Z of it while being able to demonstrate it on the guitar. It is very rare to find a great teacher that is also a great player. My search is over!
