Writing music can be one of the hardest things to do, but it can also be the most rewarding. Writing music is my passion. I have developed a curriculum designed to break down the process of writing music through a theoretical, conceptual and creative approach. I believe creativity is something that can be taught. Like any type of music, it is a skill that when practiced the right way, can improve. I can teach composition of any genre of music from singer-songwriter music, to rock/pop to advanced modern jazz. Together we will work to help you write your own songs and unlock the creativity you have in you.

About Pablo

With years of teaching and gigging experience in a wide variety of musical styles, I can teach students whatever they are interested in learning. I believe the most musical improvement occurs when the student is having fun with the process of learning. My lessons are a fun and relaxed environment w

I have developed a standardized, systematic approach to guitar instruction based on the belt system used by traditional martial arts. As students progress through the ranks, they are awarded different color “belts”. Beginners are white belts. The next level is yellow belt. Orange is next followed by red, purple, blue, and finally a black belt! I use pre existing text books so that the learning material is organized and easily accessible. I have had great success with my methods and my system makes the learning a lot more fun. I can also customize lessons for intermediate to advanced students who need to focus on certain key areas and can also prepare students for college entrance auditions. Group classes are available in special subject such as theory, note reading and advanced harmonic and melodic concepts. I am an energetic and enthusiastic instructor who insures that students enjoy their learning experience while being able to gauge their progress toward their personal musical ...

About Billy

Most of what I do as an instructor stems from my frustration as a student. I am convinced that the way I was taught to play music on the guitar is NOT the best way to learn it. I have spent a great deal of time developing my own methodology and feel as though I have a much better way to convey info

I am an experienced teacher of 4 years and NATS member, specializing in musical theatre and popular styles of private voice study. Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduate with an MA in Musical Theatre (2017), as well as professional experience as a musical theatre actor at the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival, cabaret creative, Associate Member & Music Assistant with Original Practice Shakespeare Festival, and Music Director in the high school public education sector.
My educational ethos focuses on the individual student; the goal of each session is to support the student's love of singing by cultivating a positive relationship with the voice, trust and consent between me and the student, as well as develop tangible skill sets that both improve the voice from lesson to lesson, and increase the student's sense of control over, and understanding of, their voice. I work with my students to set goals, and encourage self-advocacy in my students, children and adults alike.

My 14yo has been taking lessons with Katelin for 2 years! He never sticks with anything this long but he LOVES his time spent with Katelin. He started with in person lessons, and switched to virtual during covid times. Katelin works with him to fully explore the music genre that HE is interested in, while teaching him about his voice, breathing and so much more that I do not understand but they now speak the same language. She also pushes him out of his comfort zone to grow as an artist. She gives him specific tasks/homework to practice and work on between lessons and monitors to ensure he is making progress and growth. This has been a wonderful enrichment for him!

John is a fantastic instructor. He has a love for educating others on musical expression and he is a wellspring of musical knowledge. He provides a depth to the piano that I wouldn't have noticed if I taught myself how to play.

John emphasized how to shape musical phrases to make music as opposed to a collection of notes. He had a good ear for honing in on my weaknesses such as how some notes that I played stuck out or the movement of my arms. Most importantly, he taught me how to approach practicing the piano in an effective way. I learned how to listen to myself and how give each note, phrase, and piece the attention and musicality it needed to sound beautifully.

For an adult learner as myself, he was accommodating with how busy I was. He adjusted to my needs and work schedule and taught at a reasonable pace. However, he also never veered from his expectations and praised what I was doing right and provided methods to fix what I was doing wrong.

Although there were times when John expressed his passion for music by delving into tangents on the broader historical significance of pieces, his mini-lectures were never irrelevant nor inappropriate. For example, he commented on how in waltzes, the rhythm on the left hand would need to emulate how a Romantic era string section would play it. For anyone who is serious about how or why pieces of music are meant to be played in a certain way, John is great about contextualizing pieces to make them sound great.

Most importantly, he made practicing piano something that was both enjoyable and challenging, which is difficult to find in a teacher. I owe a great deal of my musicianship to John and he met my expectations of learning the piano. Thank you!
Kenny

"INSPIRATION!!! I have been now, taking lessons from Jordan for 6 months. Each time I leave my finish with him, I am disappointed that I have run out of time. I've extended my lesson time, and it never is enough. As I depart, I am excited and inspired to continue on to do better than the last time. Three days after my lesson, I find myself counting the days to my next lesson.

Jordan has my highest recommendation for leadership, and education. A fine instructor, and an enjoyable inspiration. He will not disappoint."

When Should You Replace Your Drum Heads?

A big part of drum set maintenance is knowing when to replace your drum heads. But when is the right time to do so? Of course, the right time will depend on how often you play - and also how hard you play. It can also depend on the sound you're going for, but a good rule of thumb is to switch out their drum heads when they start losing their original tone - they may sound dull, flat or worn. Other factors are if you notice dents (likely to happen if you're still using the stock heads), if you …
