Michelle does a great job with my 6 year old son. He has been getting weekly lessons for over a year now, and is making a lot of progress. He also enjoys the lessons enough to look forward to them. I was worried he would lose interest, but so far that is not the case. Michelle makes it fun and provides small rewards and lots of encouragement. I wanted to expose my son to the experience and enjoyment that comes with learning to play music, and Michelle has made that possible.

About Heather
I love teaching, simply love teaching! I teach students of all ages. I teach piano, voice, clarinet, and saxophone. I have taught for over 25 years. My students have lots of opportunities for performance, if they choose to. We perform at Nursing Homes, Retirements, Festival of Trees, and Seasonal Recitals. There are at least 2 recitals a year, 1 at Christmas and 1 in the Spring, if enough participation, we often have one in summer with a party afterward. We also participate in the Michigan Music Association competition. I have also had students perform in Disney World in Florida!!! I have been in many musicals such as Annie, Gypsy, Rock Around the Clock. I have put on solo recitals. I am a member of my church choir. My students and I have fun while we are learning music! It is the best job ever.

*** Lesson Details ***
I
use a variety of curriculum, which includes classical, broadway, some pop, new age, and jazz. After 3 to 6 months you will have a basic understanding of your instrument and will be ready to take off! I do ask students to keep track of your practicing so you can see your progress.

For piano:
I use the Alfred Basic Books for beginners and then we move to the Keith Snell books along with other supplemental books. If a student already is using a book, generally we will finish that book up so they won't have to purchase another set of books.

For Saxophone and Clarinet:
I use the Rubank books along with other supplemental books

For Voice:
I use the 24 Italian Songs and Arias, The Young Singer, and various Broadway books. Any pop music must be purchased by student as there is just way too much to chose from for me to have a lot of it.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home Studio: in living room with 2 pianos at entrance of house. Seating is available as well toys and a table for siblings.

*** Specialties ***
Voice - Classical & Broadway
Piano - classical
Clarinet - classical and pop
Saxophone - classical, pop, and some jazz

About Cheryl
I have worked for over 30 years as a professional
accompanist and musician in the greater metropolitan Detroit area. I have earned several degrees,
which include a Bachelor of Music Performance in Organ and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and
Music both from Wayne State University. My studies included wonderful instructors. I have studied
extensively with Albert Fillmore for ten years, Mischa Kottler for four years and Robert Conway for
five years. The last two instructors were from Wayne State and also played with the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra. I have studied organ with Ray Ferguson who played with DSO as well and I have studied
voice with Marjorie Gordon, coloratura soprano.
With over 30 years of experience as professional musician, I am confident that I possess the
qualifications needed to make a difference and an impact i
n the lives of people.
Most of my career tenure has been with the Detroit Public Schools. I have worked at various
levels in Pre-K – 12 schools but the longest has been twelve years at Cody High School. I have
enjoyed coaching the students and working with the music staff at the Cody Complex. These students
are very talented and eager to express their creativity and musical ability. I am a seasoned musician
with sight reading, transposing and improvisational skills. I used these skills to work with children
and young adults in small groups, larger groups and individual coaching in preparation for festivals
competitions and auditions.
I would like to continue providing this service to the young people within the Greater Metro
Detroit Area. Music is an important part of youth development in math and English. It also helps to
produce character and leaderships skills of discipline, teamwork, commitment and pride. I've also done the same for my private piano students, in studio as well as in a corporate setting.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a diligent instructor that possesses intuitive goals, almost from the first few lessons! I am always encouraging, and give modest yet helpful criticism. I insist on teaching and developing the fundamentals in private study, ie, standard concepts and music theory. In three months time, the student will know whether we are a good fit, whether or not they like my instruction, and discover their unique abilities as a result of my facilitation!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have an acoustic piano, or a full-sized weighted keyboard, if not full-sized, then a keyboard consisting of 76 working keys!

*** Specialties ***
I am a classically trained musician. I am also a church musician. My other styles do include pop, jazz, oldies, gospel and contemporary christian music. I start with the basics before moving to any other styles of music.

About Michelle
I'm studying music education at Wayne State University and I've been teaching students for a few years, but started as a paid teacher in June 2013. I teach basic piano and music reading to young children.
I am both a woodwind and brass player; I started as a clarinet/bass clarinet player, then I switched to horn in high school and have played flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium and tuba. I started as a clarinet player back in September of 2006 and as a horn player in January of 2011. Horn is my primary instrument now, but I also play clarinet and saxophone in pit orchestras and other ensembles.
I am an active player in the Wayne State University Bands and Orchestra, while staying an active member of the Rochester Community Concert Band (formerly called the Rochester College Concert Band).

About Chenyu
I️ teach from books that give students a strong music theory foundation. I️ also use computer software to create/edit sheet so my students can play their favorite songs at their level.

Every 8-10 months, I host recitals for my students to perform in front of family and friends. This gives students the opportunity to display their talents and hard work in a formal setting. Recitals are optional, for all instruments, and will be held at the Piano Place in Troy. Next upcoming recital will be December 2018.

I only teach from my apartment and cannot drive to new students' homes. I have a strict 24-hour notice for cancellations. The exceptions where you do not have to pay the late-cancel lesson fee is inclement weather and sudden illness.

Hello! My name is Phillip M. and I have been playing the Horn for 15 years now. I started back in elementary school and haven't looked back since. After high school, I went to Central Michigan University where I earned my Bachelor of Music in Horn Performance while studying under Dr. Bruce Bonnell. While I was at CMU, I performed with the Symphony Band, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Marching Band, Horn Choir, and a Horn Quartet. I then went to Western Illinois University where I studied under Dr. Randall Faust and earned my Masters in Horn Performance. While at WIU I performed with the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Brass Ensemble, and Horn Ensemble. I also played with several local organizations while at WIU including the Quincy Symphony Orchestra, Monmouth Civic Orchestra, Quincy Community Theatre, and
the Knox-Galesburg Symphony. I also have solo experience and have put on a junior recital, senior recital, two graduate recitals, and I performed the Hindemith Horn Sonata with the WIU Symphony Orchestra as a Concerto Competition winner as well as participate in many horn studio recitals during my college career. I am now living in Rochester Hills where I have been teaching private lessons, teaching Horn sectionals to local schools, and performing in several local orchestras including the Oakland Symphony Orchestra and Macomb Symphony Orchestra. I am willing and happy to teach all levels of musicians and I hope you consider me if you are interested.

I was awarded the Bertha Bauer Full Four-Year Scholarship and the John A. Hoffman Award for highest GPA in Voice. I won the Martha Baird Rockefeller Music Fund Award and the Jean Tennyson Music Award for outstanding accomplishments in music. I received my Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Wayne State University College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts, where I performed various opera roles and studied Vocal Pedagogy. I was guest soprano with the Rackham Symphony Orchestra and Friends of the Opera in Dearborn, the Menc conference, and the Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor.
