I can teach you to read sheet music, form chords, play scales, and perform songs. I really like to work one-on-one with the student and can teach at any pace. I have also taught interest based learning, where the student brings in a song they want to learn and we tackle it, including the theory behind why it sounds good.
About Courtney
I graduated with a degree in Biology and two minors in Chemistry and Music Technology. I have been playing guitar for 15 years and I was lucky enough to work in a music store through college. I learned instrument repair, sales, and music theory through my job and my minor. I also took lessons in mi

I have been playing piano since the age of six. Originally classically trained, I made a change to learning Jazz after hearing it on the radio one night while still in high school.
I began my teaching career in 2007, providing private piano instruction to beginners at a small, privately owned music school in Laurel, Maryland.
After the school closed it's doors in the Fall of 2011, I continued working with many of the students privately. It is these efforts I continue to this day.
Having the opportunity to work 1 on 1 with students and see their progression and development on a week to week basis is a truly, rewarding experience that I feel fortunate to be a part of.

I teach piano in the same manner in which I teach every instrument. First I teach students the rudiments of the instrument. Also I teach them how to read and a bit of music theory. From that point I like to follow the students lead. They bring in songs that they would like to learn, or possibly how to play a certain style like Funk, or Blues, or how to approach a classical sonata. At every point I try to point out general aspects of music that need to be learned from the material that they choose.

I use the Faber Piank adventure books and Suzuki books. I adjust to the student's needs and I have students try different styles of music and also help them with solos they want to learn and familiar music like Mario Brothers, movie music, and popular music. I teach through Suzuki Piano Book 6. They also learn classical music, rag time, jazz, and other styles. Music should be fun and that is my goal for their lessons and to share my joy of music with my students. Lessons combine various musical activities to keep the student stimulated and focused. Students also learn scales, note reading, rhythm and music theory.

Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.

Now 5, Anna enjoys going to lessons, she loves playing her songs for family and is beginning to get an appreciation for music, for learning and for what a little practice can do to improve her playing. We keep things fairly low key at home in terms of practice time since she is 4, and I want it to continue to be fun and for her to continue on with lessons as she gets older, but it amazes me what Rebecca has been able to teach her and how confident and proud she feels after her lessons.
We highly recommend Rebecca for any age!"

Brett has been a great teacher for my 5 year old daughter. She is just learning the basics of piano and Brett has been great at expanding her skill sets. She really enjoys practicing with him and actually looks forward to when he comes over every week!"

We are looking forward to the next sessions and beyond!
Very pleased!"
