Francesca is wonderful. My son has developed a love of learning piano and reading music. He looks forward to every lesson. I have never had to remind him to practice- he seeks opportunities to share what he is learning and is eager to share his progress with Francesca every week. She is supportive and motivating. I know she loves to develop a love music in her students by her obvious dedication to developing their love and understanding of music.

My 7 year old son won't stop singing so I figured I'd put him in some lessons. She's a good mix of patient and fun while still keeping him on track. I thought it would just be a lot of scales, but she teaches him all aspects about singing/performance and uses his favorite genres to teach them. Excellent instructor!

I've been working with Francesca for a few months now, and I feel I've grown so much. Prior to this I've sparsely attempted to play instruments, but she has taken her knowledge and passion and been able to pass that on to me while constantly reminding me that one day I will be good. And I believe it! I've come a long way to establish a regular practice routine, still working on it with her, and I have high expectations for the future. I recommend her to my own people and I recommend her to you.

If there is one thing music education lacks these days, it is music theory. Too often young violinists are made into automatons with the misuse of the Suzuki method. I always ensure my students understand what they are reading on the page of sheet music, with all questions answered. My goal is to teach a man how to fish. I.e. Show the student how to read sheet music so that they can pick up any sheet of music and just play it (known as sight reading).

Beginners typically take 60 minute classes once per week at a recurring time. Young children typically take half hour classes and older children, adult musicians and those on a budget typically take 45 minute classes. The most common lesson length to start with is 60 minutes, as the teacher will need to tune your instrument and help you get set up. Some students choose to take lessons twice per week when a concert is coming up, to catch up from a vacation or if they just want to make faster progress.

In class, you will learn new ...

Antoinette is, by far, the best music instructor that I have ever hired. Music has always been a part of my life. As a child, I took piano lessons for years and continued on and off through college. As a complete novice to the violin, I was nervous to begin such a challenging instrument as an adult hobby. Antoinette is encouraging, intelligent and incredibly skilled. Her calm demeanor and patience is vital to one's success. She focuses on the building blocks to a successful technique with ease. I am incredibly grateful to Antoinette for reminding me of how enjoyable music can be. I look forward to our weekly sessions around my busy work schedule. Her location is conveniently located within walking distance from the subway in NYC.

I took violin lessons for a year with an instructor I found through a different organization (not TakeLessons)--and I learned more in one hour with Antoinette than I learned in 30 lessons with that other teacher. In just one lesson, I can see that Antoinette is friendly, smart, encouraging, knows her stuff--and knows how to teach (which not every good player can do). I'm an adult, but I bet she'd be just as great with a student of any age.

I am a seasoned language teacher, of both adults and children. Making languages come alive through interesting anecdotes, songs, and stories, is my specialty. My schooling, from age four to 14, was 100% in French. Boy, did those nuns drill us in grammar!

About Bettina

I grew up in Sweden, speaking Swedish at home, but going to French school. At age four, I was immersed in a French environment, and had to sink or swim. I swam! In my late teens, my family moved to Israel, so I became fluent in Hebrew as well. I understand a lot about the language acquisition proces

Eventually, I taught myself how to play the guitar and a whole new world of music opened up for me and I would love to share my knowledge with you in a fun, energetic and creative way. Hope to hear from you soon!

"First of all, Chris has a quite a bit of patience.   This may seem like an odd start to a review… But from parents of an 11 year old girl who has a hard time to sit still or to focus, Chris gets an A+ for his ability to corral her energy and direct it towards her playing. She has learned a lot, and retains a lot, given the short time that Chris has been teaching her. She looks forward to every class!!"

"17 years ago I took lessons from Ahmad (maybe 4 or 5 at most due to moving out of state then as well). Fast forward to this year when I came back for a work contract and decided to give him a call. It just so happened that due to COVID the day I called him was the day he was starting to teach in person again. What great timing!!! Unfortunately I only had about 2.5 months of lessons from him this time, but I have learned so much in that short time.

Ahmad is by far the best guitar teacher I've ever had the pleasure of taking lessons from. The cost of the lessons are completely worth it in my opinion. His ability to break things down , his patience, and his willingness to ensure you have the understanding of the days subject is unparalleled. If I weren't moving out of I would 10000% continue going to him. Definitely do yourself a favor and see what he has to offer."

"Michelle was a FANTASTIC instructor! :) I had a really hard time choosing instructors but I am so glad I picked her. Without much prior singing experience, I auditioned and made it into the fifth best choir in the world but I couldn’t have done it without Michelle‘s help! People in the choir were surprised that I was auditioning in without having been in a chorus before. She really knows what she’s talking about and is encouraging and uses every minute of the lessons wisely. I can’t believe how much I improved in just five lessons! Definitely would recommend Michelle!"
